Well....the bright side is that the boat is steel, so it won't be as difficult to repair as it would have been if the boat were composite. Man that sucks though.

If it was a hurricane, why are the roller furling headsails still on the headstays?

Saw that big sumbitch down at KWRW a few years ago. Beautiful boat. Primo spot right at the Hilton on Mallory Square. That is the coveted spot for the megayachts.

Probably because you'd need a crane to get them off...?

Where's the keel? Is it buried in the sand?

"When the draught of your vessel exceeds the depth of water available you are almost certainly aground."

Another nice little hike for everyone else's insurance premiums to cover this one.

I'd love to know how they're going to get that boat out of there... about 100 Sikorsky skycranes perhaps? The keel on that thing must be 16' no way they can float it out....

Could you jack up the hull and use a torch to cut off the keel and THEN float it out? just curious...

Depends on where they are. if there is no coral reef to destroy, they may bring in a dredge and cut a channel back to deep water and float her out.

From the way she is sitting, I'd have to guess that the keel is actually quite shallow. Probably a long, lead-filled affair. Either that or she has twin keels.

Or it's broken off...

You two have never watched the Army Corps of Engineers at work on a beach with a sand pump, a back hoe and a bull dozer?

Art of Coarse Sailing/Art of Coarse Cruising?

Remember reading about a Perini - not sure which one - which actually doesn't have a keel. Stability is provided by (serious quantities) of internal ballast, and lateral resistance by a daggerboard. Sure, stiffness and windward capabilities are compromised, but since (for a boat like this) nothing goes to windward like a Gulfstream IV, it doesn't really matter anyway.
