Does any one have any thoughts on why the DM-2 design from Norths UK OD are so fucking fast? Also what makes boats like these go?

......they've probably got some minor improvements,,and match their masts well,,but most importantly, they were placed with some talented sailors to 'introduce' them to the market ;)

The OK DM2 is typically a flat sail normally combined with a very stiff rig - eg Celeidh. The flat sail works in the lightest stuff with minimal leach tension, as the wind builds more sheet bends the rig and it remains very fast as the laterally stiff rig generates loads of power. Those who go the other way with a flexier rig and fuller sail struggle in the lighter stuff as leach tension is required to remove fullness and bend the mast. Those with flexy rigs and full sails hit a really sweet spot in F4 when the stiff rigs are really overpowered and they are not. Above F5 everyone has too much power and it becomes a fitness game.
In the OK fleet there are no jockeys. Simply said though, the World Champion in 2005 and 2006 uses a Celeidh and UK North.... The other UK options appear to be C-Tech/NZ Quantum and Williams/P&B which all do ok but are not yet as allround as the Celeidh North option.
