I could see it from my house but I could not make out exactly what class it was as it was on it's side much of the time. Vessel Assist eventually got a pump to it and got it back on it's fet but it was tied on the other side of the rescue boat so I could not tell what it was. Maybe a 22 J or a Holder 20. I think that Vessel Assist did a hell of a job preventing this boat from sinking.

I believe it was a Holder 20. A couple of them had issues Saturday. I believe all were recovered. Rippin 505 day!

I talked to one of the guys on that particular boat. And yes, it was a Holder 20. They capsized, then turtled and the rig stuck in the mud. They must have waited for the tide to come back in - good to hear that is came out ok.

It was my boat. The boat had just enough positive flotation to be awash so wasn't going to sink and Chris Gruver from Vessel assist, along with my crew and I pulled off a very difficult recovery.

-Snap

Snap - that wasn't the great looking blue hull was it? Dang hope everything is OK. I've seen two H20's go down and one of them went down fast - one minute they were flying the kite having a great ride the next minute three guys treading water around a mast. I can't imagine having that happen. Sounds like you were sailing it pretty hard.

Snapper:
My son and I felt your pain.
We watched for a while and when all that was showing wasa the tip of your stern we assumed you were going down and I went shopping. When I came back you were upright and being pumped out.
Do you have flotation bags?

three boats went turtle

first one was just north west of the green #1 can at meadow point, one of the mark boats had pulled one of the crew out of the water and the other two were trying to right the boat, after 30 mins or so the other two crew were taken out of the water and the mark boat attempted to tow the holder.. the boat grounded a short time later and the crew was taken to shore... (Vessel assist was on this boat as I returned a second crew to the dock)

not long after this a M24 spilled 2 crew as geroge t was getting them out two more holders went turtle about 2NM north of the first one... when i left with one boats crew for the dock both of the boats were under tow by mark boats, saw one later tied to the dock... don't know what the out come on the third boat was

For those of you who don't know, the George T is one of CYC Seattle's mark set boats.

Big 'Atta Boy!' to the mark set operators at CYC!!!

Word I got was that all but one of their spare inflatable vests inflated, which is what kept er afloat.

One of the Santana 20s (ugly yellow one) tells a great story about that run - He said he saw Snap put up the chute and said "If he can by God WE can too!" and for a short while it looked pretty good - then how fast the boat speed went up, how high the speed got (around 12!) , and how blindingly fast it went down! On top of a wave the rudder comes out of the water, and about the time he thought Oh Sh... he's flying through the air and going sploosh. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) S20s and H20s down all over the place!

Has ANYbody got pics or video?

If you guys keep talking about all the wind and the boats that keep sinking here people might actually think that wind does blow in the PNW. Soon the rain will stop and it will be great..... Hope everyone is doing ok.

I can only say thanks to Sean for bringing us in. We went for it, it didn't work, and we live to sail another day. My thanks to everyone who helped us bring the boat back to shore.

I was thinking the same thoughts. Fortunately, I'm sure no one outside of the PNW will be reading this ;-)

The wind was especially strong out along the beach at West Point. We got hit with a few gusts on my little 22', and we were doing 13.5 knots with just the main and jib. And what a tidal change. I think it was 15 or so feet that day.

I saw 2 boats with broken masts, one Tasar and one Star.

Good V15 day, great downwind runs, with the quartering sea. Upwind starboard tacks were a blast while port was pounding head on.

Note that the rudder seen in the left side of that photo is Snapper. Or rather, his boat. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Possibly both, but you know what I meant. The sort of rubbery boat like thingy with two big outboards. I need to rescue my rig.

I should add that I have the boat to use but the owner won't be there so looking for tips/help. I'm not a powerboat type.

Contact CYC for one of their trained whaler driver's names.

And isn't the rudder on that yellow boat a leeeetle hard to port? Not going to get attached flow that way!

This pic is just begging for a caption!

I love the guy peeking over the rail to see whats coming next.

Wonder where the bow person is?

Is that a upside-down rudder in the left side of the pic?

Bow doesn't leave the cockpit in a properly run 20. You see the bow and mid - it's the skipper who's missing... presumably holding onto his newly reshaped L-shaped tiller. In the direction the guy is looking there was another S20 over I believe.

See post above - that's Snapper's rudder on the left.

Re: quote - I think the skipper's remark prior to the spin set is the best caption - "If they can do it we can do it." ("They" being the upside boat to the left of the pic...)

Don't think that was the case. We were going mark 10 when he said that.

Mast recovered early this morning. I snagged it on the anchor first time. Thanks to those who helped or offered to help.

I bet that was a good feeling!

Nope... I was just scrambling for high ground, cleated sheets and looking for the skipper!

Here's a few "after" pictures of the now infamous tiller and the Holders that went down.
