Entries on the web site show some good fleets for SB sailors

Melges 24 Australian Championships - 4 Boats
Elliot 7 Australian Championships - 8 Boats
SB3 Australian Championships - 11 Boats
Australian Sport Boat Association Australian Championships - 12 Boats

Points of Interest
  • 1st Major hit out for the SB3 in Oz
  • Sports boats to race under AMS, previous winner and very shy of the scales, Game Over is entered, do we finally get to see a weight?
  • Elliots 7's - Surely planning a party or two
Message on the home page in reference to measurement for the sport boats.

A reminder to all boats who have entered Skandia Geelong Week who are intending to enter the ASBA National Championships that it's a requirement for entrants to be both members of ASBA (membership forms are available from their website at www.asba.org.au) and to have a valid AMS certificate.

Copies of AMS certificates will need to be forwarded to ASBA (postal address can be found on the website) and a copy should also be held on the boat.

During Skandia Geelong Week ASBA will be hosting a measurement late afternoon on Thursday 24th for all boats who are yet to be measured.

So who is going to be there and what are you sailing?

I hope to be there but at the moment my options are to sail on slightly bigger craft :-(

Cheers

Hopefully the photos of SGW 2007 give a little insight into what a great event RGYC run. Not too many on water shots as I was busy trying to keep up with Julian!! However the video gallery shows the on water stuff courtesy of my late dad and committee boat helper. He will be missed this year......

A new record for the number of bodies on an E7 perhaps?

Can anyone beat 14? Surely a challenge worth taking up

This party was on Need for Speed who were sponsored as Skandia Passion that year(clearly they had the passion). It was funny the next morning when the Skandia reps strolled past the scene of hungover sailors passed out on the boat and full cans of light beer bobbing around in the water (people were grabbing a beer from the esky and turfing it if it was light beer).

Numbers on board peaked at 16 or 17. I got off to take this photo and I weigh over 110kg. Some pleasant company on board too.

There was alot of pants down action, especially by the Goat if I rcall.

Hoping to get over 10 Elliott 7s there if we can wake up the Lake Mac guys and Taking Back Sunday would make 11 or 13 if the 2 Victorian boats come.

The Humungus crew have a nice penthouse overlooking the yacht club so we can stagger home easily.

Good luck to all of you and remember to take a well stocked wallet. The greedy merchants of Geelong are out for every dollar they can milk from SGW participants in what has become a VERY expensive regatta in which to participate. The fun is still there... but at a cost.

I just looked again and count 15 definates and a possible 16th so with you that would have made the 17.

You staying at the 4 points? I hope to stay in my new apartment if the builder ever finishes it, was due to be delivered last April  If he does finish it I will be a 10 minute walk away, just up near the university with a view of the bay from the lounge window.

Cheers

I have a new 2 bedroom apartment for rent within walking distance of the club, lets see $5000 sounds reasonable

What was that about expensive?

SMS currently uses the AMS formula but they have split us out to allow for some modification to it should we want, to allow for the nuances of SB's and help develop to suit us!

My number is .898 but it will go higher into the low 900's as I found a typo (to do with sprit length) on my cert when I compared the numbers against zippier after they came out a fair bit different. She is 946 i think but that was with her massive square top main (1.6m at the head!) and she is 100kg's lighter than me. My new number will be sorted for SGW! We are also going back to dinghy days where boats can be spot checked for compliance to certificates and place getters may be spot checked. Save all those little mistakes like forgetting to get your masthead kite measured!! We will have a load cell on site to weigh boats for those that have not been measured yet and will be doing spot safety checks as well against Cat 6.

So don't forget your anchor!
