Chicago Mackinac ??

Does anybody have any corrected time results for the 45th parallel? I see that BYC does it, but it doesn't look like the Chicago Yacht Club does it.

Some surprises also after looking at the scoring..

Eagle did a nice job of catching up as the were way back at the 45th parallel. It looks like they were even with BigTime and managed to make 4-5 hours on them by the finish. ???

What happened to Bacchant?

The 3 Tripp 40's took top 3 in section 4 including Power Tripp in third. What happened to the other one (Relentless?) as they finished 20th or so?

What side of the lake was favored? Did anybody go around the Manitou's?
Any Stories?

I think the wind was calm across the area...it didn't matter what side of the lake you were on...no wind is no wind! :o

The problem with computing handicap positions based on the 45th parallel call-in is that you cannot fix a boat's position at any one spot. That being said, it can be a useful rough guide. I had created a spreadsheet to do exactly what you are thinking of. However, it did not make it onto the boat's laptop in time. Oh, and we had internet access on the boat, and downloaded the 45th call-in data. It was a good morale booster all the same.

I think half the boats out there were freaking out when they heard Pterodactyl call in their 45th parallel time just behind Colt 45 and ahead of Denali on Sunday Night. Little did anyone know that they were way out in the lake when they were crossing the 45th.

As has been pointed out, you can be near shore or not very near shore when you make your call in. That can amount to many, many miles difference between the boats calling in and the island they are trying to reach. The other factor to consider is exactly what does the 45th parallel mean to each boat? Sure, with GPS every boat should know exactly when they hit the 45th but, does each boat call in the moment they do? Or maybe call in a tad early?

Or a little late ... is the glass half empty or half full? The psychology of sailing.

This falls between dimming turning on the running lites alittle late and turning on the engine and forgetting it is in gear. Hell, if you throw out the safety concerns for a moment, why in the hell would you give the correct position especially in a light air race??

Who remembers the boat that could not figure out why they were going slow? changed sails, trimmed etc and still saw p/s lights passing them through the toos. Turned out that the driver had left tghe engine in gear after they backed down before the race. Turned engine on to charge batteries........ ;)

don't think I would admit it, but funny none the less.

Would it be breaking any rules to check the race tracking website while underway?

To answer the original question.... we had plenty of breeze for most of the race but it was uphill.

I think the consensus is that it was a rhumb-line year. We broke one of the major rules by sailing way into the beach by frankfort which turned out to be a humongous passing lane for us, we earned about 50 boats on that one.

Think the guys who hit the wisconsin beach had a tough time getting out of there the next day.

Big parking lots late mon. after grey's reef... we had a good lead and parked 500 yrds from the finish line for SIX HOURS before getting passed by CHAOS putting us in an eventual 2nd. Had fun though. Not sure how many boats went outside the manitous but I know a few did...

Is it a communication that is available to all competitors?

Yes; it is a public website, linked from the race website itself, available to all with Internet access.

Chicago yacht Club has them. Look at the finish, and there are the times for the 45 parallel and finish times. "Sjambok" was there Sunday at 6:30 pm or so. We were the 5th mono hull over the 45 parallel ( GR, Winquest, Esmeralda, Bright Star)

That is your answer then.
