An E-Ticket Ride.

Many youngin's think that an E-ticket is an Electronic Ticket used on airplanes. That's what an E-ticket is, isn't it?

For us wiser sailors, we remember the days at Disneyland where you bought a booklet of tickets when you entered the park. They had a bunch of A-Tickets for the less travelled rides, less B-Tickets for the next group of OK rides, less C-Tickets for the middle type rides, less D-Tickets for the getting cool rides, and finally about 3 or 4 E-Tickets for the cool rides. There were never enough E-tickets, and you went away either disappointed, or spent some extra bucks to do those rides again.

So E-Ticket became ubiquitous with cool rides.

History lesson over.

I kept an E-ticket around unspent for a long time. I might still have it somewhere. On them was a list of the rides they were good for: Matterhorn, Pirates of the Caribbean, etc.

But I think the listing I liked best was:

"Skyway to Fantasyland, one way."

Now where else are you going to get that?

Back in the very old days, tickets came in a series of "classes" that varied by price. You could spend a little, or you could spend a lot. The E-Ticket was good for ALL of the rides at Disneyland.

This was before Disney learned that they could charge a one size fits all price and people would actually pay it.

IIRC, when Sally Ride, newly arrived in low earth orbit, was asked what she though of the Shuttle liftoff, she said, "Definitely an E-ticket!"

Hell - and I had to buy the boat to get off the bow into fantasyland. If I only knew I could have saved some serious cash.

My girlfriends and I have informed each other about which guys are the "e-ticket rides."
None of us are talking computers!

Disneyworld/land -- e-ticket rides were the way to go!

i got kicked out of D-land in 7th grade for jumping off the boat in Pirates of Caribbean and punching a few motorized wenches. pretty funny at the time.

they had it all on camera, and at the end of the ride the security was waiting for me. the headmaster of my school didn't like that, called my folks, sent me home early from that field trip.


i'm much better behaved these days.

I got kicked out in 5th grade for spitting from the gondola. tagged a guy on the Alice in Wonderland ride.

I hate that I know what an E Ticket is… I also hate that i can remember
· all soft drinks came in bottles and you could get a deposit back.
· cars had no air-conditioning... riding on the "shelf" under the rear window was the best seat
· there was "free air" at all service stations.
· there were S&H green stamps.
· you could go as a child and buy your mom a pack of cigarettes.
· music was on vinyl records 45 rpm and albums were 33 rpm.
· there was one light (red) on top of police cars.
· there was only AM radio.
· you could go and see a live Jan & Dean concert for $4.00.
· I also hate that I know who Jan and Dean are
· gas was .26 a gal and ethel was way too high at .30.
· Typing Class was noisy.
· you only had GM, Ford and Chrysler making cars in the US.
· the Network News was only 15 minutes long.
· motor oil came in metal containers.
· toothpaste came in metal tubes.
· the balcony at the movie theatre had the best view.
· Milk, Bread and Potato chip delivery
· Cracker Jacks had a decent and unusual prize in it.
· every house had a tall outside TV antennae.
· you could call a Doctor and he would come to your house (the same day).

Disney now uses a "speed pass" you go to the ride you want to go on, they give you a time to come back, you miss the whole line and take your ride at your given time... pretty slick way to avoid all the lines...

at least at Northworst airlines they have some cool Kisosk technology, you swipe your NWA card, or DL and they print an e ticket on the spot, you then fight and claw your way through secruity and go straight to the gate.... then you wait on the tarmack for hours.... they lose your luggage, you arrive late....and you don't even get a friggen bags of peanuts....

ZAR, I share your pain, I remember all of those things most of the time. I am the poster boy for CRS disease (Can't Remember Shit). I remember when a big boat was 30 ft. and Ocean Racing meant more than an overnight race.

E ticket from Disneyland for a kid was considered the best ride in the Universe. For a grown-up an E ticket ride would be considered a sleigh ride to Hawaii or even better, a ride on a 60' french tri flying 2 of the hulls blasting way over 30 knots.

E Ticket in the 70's and early 80's = Express Ticket, one way, fast.

These days = Electronic Ticket, paperless.

no way should Mr. Lincoln be a C ticket. IIRC, the tickets A-C rarely got used, but you could take them to the ticket booth and trade them in for E tickets - like 2 A's and a C for one E, or something like that.

The pack mules, wow, that was a long time ago.

E-Ticket is from the early days of Disney World. Each ride had a letter classification from A-E. A were the dopey kids rides like Flying Dumbo. Tea cups were probably B or C. E rides were the "bad ass" rides like Space Mountain. You needed the corresponding ticket to ride each class of ride, so an A ticket for an A ride, and an E ticket for an E ride.
