Not so easy a fix I suspect as the lateral problem apparently occurs in the points of transition from displacement to foiling and then from foil to foil. Not going to develop a lot of lateral stability from rudder foils. Easier fix...use a catamaran to start with. And apply all the lessons learned. Or go the TP52 route of fast, agile monos. The more I learn about these boats the more convinced I am that they are simply the bastard child of a couple of egos.

That is plain wrong. "Competitor" is a defined term in Protocol 1.4 and means "team". It does not mean "sailor". Nothing in the protocol prevents a sailor from competing in another series. As far as teams go, 34.3 prevents or may prevent competing in an "ambush regatta". It is hard to see how an event that doesn't use AC boats, AC images or AC terminology and where most of the teams are not involved in the AC could be argued to be an "ambush". I am not expecting AC teams to join Larry's circus but that's not because they cannot, it is because it would form a significant diversion of treasure and effort.

We watch this race for the crew not the boats. Spending more money on fancy boats that have less crew is a dumb idea. Spend the money on sailors! The OD nature of this race must also have reduced overall costs freeing more money for more sailors. If they sent the boats around again then I'd watch again!

lydia It was taken that way anyway. You are right through, races like the S2H were started as a adventure and Christmas fun in the holidays. Now the average boat owner struggles to even get to the starting line. Clubs do need to look at how to grow there races. Just look at the fastnet race, they have moved with the times, single handed, double handed, multi’s and super yachts and there fleets just seem to be growing they now are running a second race for the single handlers. Just think about what our races could come if we think out side the square. Pulpit

“The last thing that I would like to be known as is a rat,” Credico told the news outlet, adding that he received the request three weeks ago. “I didn’t talk to the House committee and I’m not going to talk to the Senate committee.” Interesting choice of words. "Rat" doesn't really apply to innocent people.

Remember Piera , the Philippe Rhodes design I posted last fall? Late last winter I was surprised to see her in the building shed. She was just getting sewed back up after receiving: A new keel, all new ribs, floors, and of course a lot of her planking. She just went in the water today presumably to start swelling the hull back up again. The old boat was probably enjoying the light rain falling on the parched decks and house top. No rig and lots of her interior (weight) yet to be re-installed, she is floating real high on her lines. Yet, from any angle - high on her lines, I still think she is one of the prettier old boats I've seen, on starboard,... or port. A simple boat in 45 x 11+' feet, big decks, small house, and cockpit that still has the rumble seat.

have to say I think this is an expensive white elephant - the rules have locked teams into one primary route and I have serious doubts as to the suitability for match racing, let alone anything else. Safety of a mono? Not a snowballs in hell chance of that - or can they have a panic button that returns the foils to the full down position in just a few seconds. Without scrunching some poor organ grinder that's been flicked out of the boat in the process? Things happen very fast in foiling boats. Exciting though? Of course, watching people spend OPM with gay abandon is always fun! And fortunately there seem to be some that are happy to have it spent. Maybe.

catch a Weta by the toe? yeah, in the process of doing so after selling my much loved Corsair 24 after 14 years. 120kg off the beach sounds easier than 1200kg off the mooring, just a bit wetter?

What a shit poll. It’s not who was worst. It’s who had the most people say worst. 35% say he was the worst. That matches the racist % pretty closely.

True...it may need some follow up repairs but it would still be fast.

PIL it all depends on how good the topless female crew look. Post a pic and we will all rate them for you.

The proposed design has one apparently un-resolvable flaw that makes it a terrible choice for match-racing. Or really any kind of racing. From what I hear, there is a point of serious lateral instability during the relatively slow (compared to the cats) transition from displacement to foiling. And unless they rapidly find a way to keep the boats on foil through tacks and jibes, maneuvers will be painfully slow and potentially dangerous. Just what I hear.

That flipside off the wind and most importantly on oceans is the one that scares the Bujeezus out of me. "Naw dood. It's fine to have waves the size of freight trains going right over the deck every 200 seconds. It'll make monohulls powered by lead cool again!". Meanwhile the Dali foil boats just bounce around on top of the swell and actual wave piercing multi don't ask crew to venture onto the hull that's doing the piercing. Edit. Clearly I'm a bit opinionated about this. Didn't mean to drift the thread. It just intersects with one of my pet design peeves. DRC

Ted Lieu ✔@tedlieu Dear @realDonaldTrump: Remember the oath you took to the Constitution at your relatively small inauguration? You should read the Constitution. The Due Process Clause applies to all persons, not just US citizens. As @POTUS, you of all people need to follow law and order. Donald J. Trump ✔@realDonaldTrump We cannot allow all of these people to invade our Country. When somebody comes in, we must immediately, with no Judges or Court Cases, bring them back from where they came. Our system is a mockery to good immigration policy and Law and Order. Most children come without parents... 10:45 AM - Jun 24, 2018

At Friday night services, Morris went to his friend Irving & said, "Irving, I need a favor – I'm sleeping with the rabbi's wife. Can you hold him in the temple for an hour after services for me?" Irving was not very fond of the idea, but being Morris' lifelong friend, he reluctantly agreed. After services, he struck up a conversation with the rabbi asking him all sorts of stupid questions in an effort to keep him occupied. After some time, the wise rabbi became suspicious & asked, "Irving what are you really up to with all this?" Irving, filled with feelings of guilt & remorse, confessed to the rabbi, "I'm sorry, Rabbi, my friend Morris is sleeping with your wife right now & asked me to keep you occupied." The wise rabbi smiled and, putting a brotherly hand on Irving's shoulder, said, "Irving, I think you'd better hurry home, my wife died two years ago!"

Added a code zero kit by Matt Bell of Outlaw Sailing. Interesting set of obstacles to add a code zero to what was once a unirig. Boat has always been great with high wind, but a little underpowered in very light air. CZ adds 7 sq m to the sail plan. Should fix the light air blues. Yep, it's all worked out better than I expected. I'm very lucky. We depart for 12 days of cruising in a couple of weeks. I was given a Chesapeake cruising guide for my birthday so we'll use it to find some new gunkholes to visit.

The year is 2024 and the United States has just elected the first woman as President of the United States. A few days after the election the president-elect calls her father in Milwaukee and asks, "So, Dad, I assume you will be coming to my inauguration?" "I don't think so. It's a long drive; your mom isn't as young as she used to be, we'll have the dog with us, and my arthritis is acting up in my knee." "Don't worry about it, Dad. I'll send Air Force One or another support aircraft to pick you up and take you home, and a limousine will pick you up at your door," she said. "I don't know. Everybody will be so fancy. What would your mother wear?" "Oh, Dad," she replied, "I'll make sure she has a wonderful gown custom-made by one of the best designers in New York." "Honey," Dad complained, "You know we can't eat those rich foods you and your friends like to eat." The President-elect responded, "Don't worry, Dad. The entire affair is going to be handled by the best caterer in D.C. and I'll ensure your meals are salt-free. Dad, I really want you to come." So her parents reluctantly agreed, and on January 24, 2024 arrived to see their daughter sworn in as President of the United States. The parents are seated in the front row. The President's dad sees that a Senator is sitting next to him and whispers, "You see that woman up there with her hand on the Bible, becoming President of the United States? The Senator whispered in reply, "Yes, sir, I sure do ." Dad says proudly, "Her brother plays football for the Packers."

I think it's probably a lot more valuable to ask if wave peircer style bows belong on anything as low aspect as the keelboats they're being put on today. DRC
