    Nexus NX Depth sounder malfunction

would it be possible to wire the depth transducer into a receiver from another manufacturer, such as Raymarine and then wire that into the NMEA Nexus system?

    Nexus NX Depth sounder malfunction

I plan on testing the triducer on another boat that doesn't have a WSI box but does have a NX2 server which should be adequate for testing purposes. If the WSI box is at fault, does anyone know where these can be acquired?

    Nexus NX Depth sounder malfunction

OK so I tried putting a voltmeter on all the combinations of pins 6, 7 and 8 and none of them read any voltage at all (this was with the known good transducer plugged in). Not sure what to infer from that. What does the "screen" wire do anyway?

    Nexus NX Depth sounder malfunction

OK so long story short is: 1) I verified that this is a 200 KHz triducer 2) Plugging the WSI box into two other transducers known to be working did not show depth on the Seadata screen - only dashes I attached a pic of the display at startup. Yes, I tried re-initializing but no joy there. From this I conclude that the WSI box is probably defective in some way. Anyone have experience with WSI boxes crapping out?

    Nexus NX Depth sounder malfunction

The system I'm using was pulled from a working boat and the previous owner claims it worked fine when pulled. The wires are color coded to the WSI box so unless there's a color mismatch, connection should be straightforward. My understanding is that the depth functions are the blue and black wires (see pic). I believe the WSI box is NMEA 0183 but the manual doesn't say. It does state: "The depth transducer is connected to pin 6-8 on the WSI box. Note, only 200kHz transducer can be used!" So you're right about the 200 KHz issue. I'm not sure of the KHz of the transducer. I'll have to check on the boat. I did try hooking up another transducer to the WSI box yesterday (I just hung it over the side of the boat in the water). This transducer is 200 KHz and it did not give me a reading either.

    Nexus NX Depth sounder malfunction

Yes I tried that. C14 I tried different units to no avail. It won't let me adjust the offset (C15) at all - just shows dashes on that screen too.

    Nexus NX Depth sounder malfunction

I just installed a legacy Nexus NX Seadata display connected via a WSI box to a triducer which is an Airmar DST800V (speed, depth and temp). I bench tested prior to install and speed/temp worked but was unable to test depth since it was out of the water. After installation today, all I see for depth readings on the Nexus SeaData instrument are dashes. Anyone have any ideas as to what might be the problem? Thanks

    Nexus NX Wind display malfunction

Thanks! Yes this worked. For some reason the "NX Wind Plus" manual is the one that works with this display, even though the display just says "NX Wind". It's a different calibration method with different buttons to push. Thanks again!

    Nexus NX Wind display malfunction

    1) yes, will check when I get that far 3) I'll check again. I agree it's weird. Does it matter which side of the display the "incoming" and "outgoing" wire harness is attached to? 4) OK so if I use the '+' button to advance through the sub-options, and then hold down 'set' then I don't always get the "CAL" setting for the wind transducer (equivalent to the C53 calibration setting in the manual). Here's what I get when holding down 'set" for two seconds at each of the subfunctions: TWS, AWS: CAL for wind (C53) BSP, VMG: 'CAL' option for the log transducer (equivalent to the C15 section of calibration). RSI: PAR off (to reset pair to transducer which by the way I already tried) TWD: COG dir (equivalent to C17 to set reference for direction) TWA: ADJ for offset of transducer (equivalent to C54) So not always the same but at no time do I get the typical C10 heading allowing me to do things like change units etc. I've attached two pictures of the units powering up showing the firmware versions. The wind display says unit ID is 16 and FW is 0.6 which sounds old...

    Nexus NX Wind display malfunction

A friend of mine has recently purchased a Nexus NX system consisting of the wireless wind transducer (although it says Garmin gWind on it, not Nexus), a WSI controller, an Airmar DST800 triducer, a NX SeaData instrument display and a NX Wind display. Prior to installing on his boat, I was bench testing the system at home. I've noticed a few things: 1) indicated wind speed seems lower than actual. It was pretty breezy outside today where I had the transducer set up and the indicated TWS never exceeded 5 knots. 2) Wireless signal is very weak. If I put the transducer and WSI box side by side, I get about 52 signal strength. If I put the instrument int he next room (drywall, not metal walls) it drops to only 20. In my backyard about 40 feet away with metal siding but a window line of sight, strength is about 15. Is this normal? Would buying a new battery for the transducer improve signal strength? 3) The DeaData instrument will only work if I plug it into the daisy chain first fromt he WSI box, then to the Wind display. If I go WSI box --> Wind display --> Seadata display then I get "error 3 = no data received". Is that normal. I though Nexus displays could be daisy chained in any order. 4) My main issue is this: when I hold down the "set" key on the wind display to go to calibration mode, it doesn't. Instead, it shows me a number "cal" to adjust from 1.00 to 1.99. I've attached a pic to show what I mean (instrument on right). Anyone have any thoughts on this, especially #3 as this is a big problem if I can't calibrate the instrument properly! Thanks in advance.
