    Panoptix Frontvu transducer

Hey guys - I have a garmin 942xs CP which I connected to my existing Ray st60+ wind, triducer and auto pilot using the SeaTalk1-->SeaTalkNG adapter (works great!). Looking to probably phase out the existing depth and thinking about replacing it with the Panoptix FrontVu. would be nice to know what's coming up ahead... Anyone have actual eyes-on experience with that? any comments? Note - we don't race (occasional beer-can fun). Currently mostly day-sail sometimes overnight for the weekend while still working....but looking to retire in a year or two. We'll probably do a bit of cruising to Bahamas and up the ICW. (oh and boat is a Cataline 309...) Thanks for any info - Dave - in Tampa Bay

Fun in Florida in January or Februay?

Try St Pete. Beautiful sailing town....really nice harbor you could sail that boat all around in or go out into the bay on nice days. Tall ship Lynx is wintering in St Pete harbor. or like suggested try Pine island. Or stay on Boca Grande - really nice island (but bring lotsa $). then head across 4 hrs to Miami in Feb for the boat show.... Dave -Tampa Bay

    stuffing box problems

Bummer....but good catch rather than having it happen way further out. Just replaced mine last year at nine years old so as not to risk it... every time I open the seacocks before starting the engine, I grab the shaft and turn it manually. Indeed it is always stuck and then breaks free. Hopefully that will help preserve it longer. Dave in Tampa
