    B&G H3000 Migration Route

Hi, Thanks very much for this expert insight, that is really useful. On that basis, if I was to get the Fastnet Interface would the pilot controller (https://ww2.bandg.com/product/h5000-pilot-controller/) drive the ACP1 pilot brain I currently have, or would I need the H5000 pilot computer straight away (https://ww2.bandg.com/product/h5000-autopilot-computer/).? If so would it work with my existing hydraulic ram? Thanks again for your help

    B&G H3000 Migration Route

Hello, I find myself in the exact same position that you were in. The GPD on my h3000 system has packed up and I am struggling to find something to replace it with. Like you I am reluctant to invest heavily for new A+T instruments on an old and unsupported system. Out of interest, which route did you take in the end? Also, are there any options to separate the pilot and the rest of the system by changing to a different head unit and maybe pilot brain to at least make use of the drive etc? I mostly steer myself but do a lot of solo stuff and just need to be able to leave the helm, so steering a straight line by compass will do fine to ensure I can manoeuvre. I was always pretty dubious about the H3000 system's ability to do much more anyway. In the longer term I may upgrade but if I have to replace the lot I may go NKE as I had that on the last boat and much preferred it. Any retrospective advice on how your situation resolved itself would be appreciated!

    B&G h3000 autopilot woes

Thanks for the swift reply, yes I do have the hydraulic ram and drive. I also have the brain (ACP1) that works fine too, so replacing the head with a compatible one may be the first option, but it could be a plan to replace the brain too if not and separate from the rest of the system. Thanks for your suggestion

    B&G h3000 autopilot woes

Hello, I am hoping someone may be able to help. I have a B&G h3000 system which controls the instruments and pilot on my A31. The pilot display (GPD) which controls the ACP1 has stopped functioning correctly and the LCD screen is faint and unreadable and as a result is basically unusable. Despite the boat being only 8 years old, Navico tell me that the H3000 system is no longer supported and spares are not available. So that means I either need to a) repair what I have, b) replace it with a used one if I can find one, c) replace it with something else that may be compatible such as h1000 or h2000, d) replace the whole lot with something different, which may need to wait until the winter. I would be grateful to hear from anyone who has experience of these systems, their compatibility or anything for sale that may do the job. Thanks!

    B&G RemoteVision needed

Hi All, I have had a few requests for further information from people building their own systems like this and it is good to see that working solutions are being implemented. By way of installation help, here are a couple of photos: Inside the ACP 1: Inside the Viper unit:

    B&G RemoteVision needed

Hi Martin, Many thanks for your message, a few months ago I would have been delighted to get it! However, I have now found a really good solution in the above so the Remote Vision is now surplus to requirement. If you put it on eBay, I am sure you will get a good price. I would have paid a lot if I had seen one before I designed the above solution, so I am sure you will make someone's day. Thanks a lot anyway, Rupert

    B&G ACP1 Handheld controller interface

After much research on this topic, I built a fully functional solution to this which I have written up here:

    B&G RemoteVision needed

Just to bring this one full circle. I searched for ages to try and find a B&G Remote Vision, with no success. However, I did manage to build a solution fairly cheaply, which some of you may be interested in to avoid the many hours of research I had to do to get there. This solution centres around creating a remote control unit for the B&G ACP1 or ACP2. It does not matter what other instrumentation or pilot display system is attached to this pilot as the system interacts directly with the pilot. This pilot was built to operate with a wired handheld unit and you can see this in the opertaing manual here: https://www.manualshelf.com/manual/b-g/network-pilot-acp/manual-english/page-58.html . Obviously a wired handled is cumbersome on a yacht when fed outside into the cockpit, but you can use the ports available to connect the handheld to attach a Wireless remote control system whose relays can throw the switches that the wired handheld would normally do. The unit I used to do this is designed to open garage doors. It can be found here: https://www.rfsolutions.co.uk/remote-control-systems-c9/viper-remote-control-systems-c17 I contacted them directly and they built me an 8 channel version of the Viper system. It is waterproof and you can easily pair additional remote units. They will even build you a custom made sticker for on/off, -1 +1, -10 +10 if you ask to replace the numbers 1 to 8 on the standard transmitter. I then used the following wiring combination to create the right switches which mirrors the job that the handheld would have done. AP OFF: black-white AP ON: black-brown +10: black-yellow -10: black-blue +1: black-violet -1: black-green You need to link the pre-determined relay switch to relevant coloured switch port on the ACP unit and then follow the process to get the RF receiver to 'learn' the command from the remote transmitter but RF supply instructions to do this. The system works really well and I can now alter the pilot whilst on the foredeck sailing singlehanded without issue. Project cost approx £150

    Which 30ft performance cruiser?

Just to bring the topic full circle, I thought I would let you know that after several months of research, I finally went for the Archambault A31. For anyone else in the same position as I was when I started this topic the shortlist whittled down like this: Pogo 850 - still love this boat and chartered one last year. Not as quick as the A31 and much harder work upwind. Hard to find a good example these days with many I looked at being a bit scruffy. Would possibly have gone for one if I had seen a good one. Happier with the A31 all up though. Pogo 30 - still the dream 30 footer, just too expensive. Figaro 2 - Despite being a good boat to sail, a close up look below revealed a hostile race-orientated environment with virtually no room to convert to any level of comfort. An out and out racer, for the right person there will lots on the market pretty soon with the Solitaire going into a new boat. Seascape 27 - hardly any around, never got a good look. Sunfast 3200. Much heavier beast, not so good in light wind, gets going only with a decent blow. A further step away from the lightweight racing ideal. RM 980 - more of a cruiser than a racer. Most are bilge keel. Class 950 - Still intrigued but hard to find. Did see a couple of high priced Akilarias. A31 - fast, light, competitive under IRC, great to sail, affordable, fits the family on. Easy to sail short or single-handed. This is the one. Thanks for all the advice along the way.

    B&G ACP1 Handheld controller interface

Hi, I was wondering how you got on with this project. I have just inherited an H3000 system with ACP1 pilot and I too am missing the remote control. I am looking to either obtain a Remote Vision unit or reverse engineer one in the way you describe. If you have any advice, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    B&G Remote Vision

Hi, How did you get on with your RemoteVision? I am looking for one for my H3000 set up if you happen to know of any? Thanks
  12. Hi All, I am on the lookout for a B&G Remote Vision remote control and wireless port to retrofit to a B&G H3000 set up. The system is fitted to a 2010 A31 and the product has been discontinued and B&G don't have any left. If anyone has one they want to sell, please be in touch. It looks like this: http://www.bandg.com/en-GB/products/RemoteVision/ Thanks a lot,

    Which 30ft performance cruiser?

yes I did look at the class 950 (specifically the Akilaria) as an option as it seems to fill a good gap between the mini and the class 40 (quite a big gap...) in terms of performance. However they only built a handful so could be hard to find one. On the flip side, I took a potential buyer of the mini for a sail today. Doing 12kts barely trying is going to be tough to part with.

Some great advice here, thanks a lot guys. @stick, the Pogo 30 does look awesome, I may need to get saving....did you go for the swing keel version, if so how do you find it?
