Light weight traveller block - is this new?

Fair question. A couple of good reasons actually - high safe weight loads, no more grinding ball bearings - more money for beer after sailing, T2’s are eye watering expensive after all

Changing rules may take a while... and wouldn’t help in keeping a level playfield. Whilst the idea came when looking at a laser traveller, it may have wider applications. Flip the block upside down and tie it to the boom and you have a low profile mainsheet block. Ideal for skiffs and foilers. Thank you for all the replies!

After some thought, version 2. black: Antal 14x10 low friction ring green: traveller line yellow: sheet gray: outer shell of the block blue: inner core of the block, rides on top of the traveller line, snaps into the shell, and keeps the outer shell concentric to the ring open source, attribution only

Karvers have a ball bearing, axle for this is a single braid dyneema line through the ring.
  9. Sailing a laser, had this idea for a traveller block using a low friction ring. Attached image was hashed up quickly around an Antal 14x10 ring, 3d printable, all up weight 20grs. Has this been done before? If not, would you want one if it were class legal? You’d have to print one or have made to order for a few $.
