      Abbreviated rules   07/28/2017

Underdawg did an excellent job of explaining the rules.  Here's the simplified version: Don't insinuate Pedo.  Warning and or timeout for a first offense.  PermaFlick for any subsequent offenses Don't out members.  See above for penalties.  Caveat:  if you have ever used your own real name or personal information here on the forums since, like, ever - it doesn't count and you are fair game. If you see spam posts, report it to the mods.  We do not hang out in every thread 24/7 If you see any of the above, report it to the mods by hitting the Report button in the offending post.   We do not take action for foul language, off-subject content, or abusive behavior unless it escalates to persistent stalking.  There may be times that we might warn someone or flick someone for something particularly egregious.  There is no standard, we will know it when we see it.  If you continually report things that do not fall into rules #1 or 2 above, you may very well get a timeout yourself for annoying the Mods with repeated whining.  Use your best judgement. Warnings, timeouts, suspensions and flicks are arbitrary and capricious.  Deal with it.  Welcome to anarchy.   If you are a newbie, there are unwritten rules to adhere to.  They will be explained to you soon enough.

  1. Mocking Ads on Craigslist

I sailed out of Jericho for a few years at the end of the 90s. One of the best stretches of my life.
  2. "National Cleavage Day"

No, the contrast is still there. The beauty in the thread is in contrast to the average of what we see every day. From another perspective, it is very true that constant exposure to anything will tend to desensitize appreciation (or aversion, as the case may be), and a world of only beauties would just shift the bell curve.

Which club, FO, if you are comfortable saying?
  4. caption contest

    Prize winner...

You got there first... "ZZ Bottom".
  6. Joke

My buddy was eating at a fast food place. This teenage girl in a wheelchair comes in with her parents and has a total fit. They're trying to order and the girl's just being a nasty by screaming, rolling all over her parents, and just being plain rude to the employees. So, this old guy with these super thick glasses walks over and politely tries to calm the girl down by saying how everyone is doing their best and stuff, and the girl just yells at him too. The guy says he's just trying to give his two cents and leaves the girl to be. The girl and her parents get their food. As they're on their way out, the girl rolls over to the old man and says sarcastically, "Nice glasses." Without even straying from his calm demeanor the old man says, "Nice legs." 7. Plants on a boat

Picturesque, though. It doesn't look neglected. I rather like it.
  8. Joke

A woman was nearing the end of her tether – every night her husband was snored so loudly that it kept her awake. She decided to call the family doctor to see if there was anything that could be done to relieve her nightly suffering. “Well, there is one operation I can perform that will cure your husband of his snoring,” said the doctor, “but I must warn you that it is rather expensive. It will cost you a deposit of £15,000, and payments of £1,000 for 48 months, as well as money for extras.” “Good grief!” exclaimed the woman. “That sounds like I’m buying a yacht!” “Hmm,” the doctor murmured, “too obvious, huh?

Another case of honesty: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-sailboat/dartmouth/16-homemade-wooden-sailing-boat/1284192338?utm_source=alerts&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=email_alerts Please give me a working boat in trade for this one that might not be repairable....
  10. Mocking Ads on Craigslist

That is some expensive firewood there.
  11. Craigslist - Not mocking

I know free boats never are, but as far as project boats go, this might be good for someone. https://www.kijiji.ca/v-sailboat/bridgewater/project-boat/1297333812?utm_source=alerts&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=email_alerts And then there is this one - initial ask was $3K, now it sounds like the Owner just needs to get it gone. A boat with a good reputation for performance if not so much for build, who knows what this one has had done. https://www.kijiji.ca/v-sailboat/cape-breton/make-an-offer/1297323805?utm_source=alerts&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=email_alerts This time of year in the snow belt there are lots of intriguing deals....
  12. SA membership list

I used to be able to see the entire list of SA members. Since the spit-and-polish done to the site, no full list. Just a list of on-line members. But what if I want to message someone who is not on line at the moment? Or something. Am I just missing a tab/menu item/sacred ritual somewhere?
  13. SA membership list

Bingo. Thank you B.J. I appreciate the assistance.
  14. SA membership list

That helps some, B.J., thank you. It still seems, then, that one can only find member information on someone if you can find a post. E.g. I can hover over your user name and from there find content you have contributed. From the 'compose' pane, though, that isn't possible.
  15. Clear rust protection

Corten steel used in architecture and public art. Good stuff used well. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weathering_steel
  16. Craigslist buyers

Hey, welcome to 'Hawks fandom, one week today!
  17. Sailing around the world in a Leisure 17

Free tow from a commercial interest should be worth more points because the gov't agencies don't charge.
  18. O'Day 27 worth considering?

I found this when I was looking. Generally positive. http://sailingmagazine.net/article-726-oday-27.html
  19. my SA experience

June 2014 join date - not so new, plenty of time to get the lay of the land.
  20. Uglyboat Admiration Society Hang Out

I like that it looks like a pelican. It should be animated.
  21. Best sailboat to teach a small child to sail

They do. I don't know the lower wind limit, though. Seems to me that at a regatta I did mark boat on there was plenty of planing at around the 20kt wind range, but that was a while ago, don't remember for sure.
  22. Best sailboat to teach a small child to sail

So we scoured the countryside looking for the best dinghy to teach the kids to sail, and found the perfect one: a Sunflower. Lessons on! Just kidding. Half kidding. Someone gave us an ancient Sunflower that still floats and has all the equipment intact, so that's what the kids are learning on. And on the Tanzer concurrently, but the Sunflower is more exciting... near as I can .tell this is almost the same as a Snark, 10' foam boat, and it says Snark on the sail (not the original though). Big enough - just - that I can be a passenger with one 10-year old or two 8-year olds aboard.
  23. Our group isn't big enough to have too much conflict. There is a definite divide between one-design (only one class) and phrf, but we all get along well enough, even if the rules sometimes get played fast and loose at times in the latter group.
  24. Already noted and apologized for above, Varan.
  25. That would have been 2010 when we went out the St. Lawrence to Maine via Newfoundland (where bull rails are ubiquitous). If it was more recent I would have said to stop by.... next time.
