      A Few Simple Rules   05/22/2017

Sailing Anarchy is a very lightly moderated site. This is by design, to afford a more free atmosphere for discussion. There are plenty of sailing forums you can go to where swearing isn't allowed, confrontation is squelched and, and you can have a moderator finger-wag at you for your attitude. SA tries to avoid that and allow for more adult behavior without moderators editing your posts and whacking knuckles with rulers. We don't have a long list of published "thou shalt nots" either, and this is by design. Too many absolute rules paints us into too many corners. So check the Terms of Service - there IS language there about certain types of behavior that is not permitted. We interpret that lightly and permit a lot of latitude, but we DO reserve the right to take action when something is too extreme to tolerate (too racist, graphic, violent, misogynistic, etc.). Yes, that is subjective, but it allows us discretion. Avoiding a laundry list of rules allows for freedom; don't abuse it. However there ARE a few basic rules that will earn you a suspension, and apparently a brief refresher is in order. 1) Allegations of pedophilia - there is no tolerance for this. So if you make allegations, jokes, innuendo or suggestions about child molestation, child pornography, abuse or inappropriate behavior with minors etc. about someone on this board you will get a time out. This is pretty much automatic; this behavior can have real world effect and is not acceptable. Obviously the subject is not banned when discussion of it is apropos, e.g. talking about an item in the news for instance. But allegations or references directed at or about another poster is verboten. 2) Outing people - providing real world identifiable information about users on the forums who prefer to remain anonymous. Yes, some of us post with our real names - not a problem to use them. However many do NOT, and if you find out someone's name keep it to yourself, first or last. This also goes for other identifying information too - employer information etc. You don't need too many pieces of data to figure out who someone really is these days. Depending on severity you might get anything from a scolding to a suspension - so don't do it. I know it can be confusing sometimes for newcomers, as SA has been around almost twenty years and there are some people that throw their real names around and their current Display Name may not match the name they have out in the public. But if in doubt, you don't want to accidentally out some one so use caution, even if it's a personal friend of yours in real life. 3) Posting While Suspended - If you've earned a timeout (these are fairly rare and hard to get), please observe the suspension. If you create a new account (a "Sock Puppet") and return to the forums to post with it before your suspension is up you WILL get more time added to your original suspension and lose your Socks. This behavior may result a permanent ban, since it shows you have zero respect for the few rules we have and the moderating team that is tasked with supporting them. Check the Terms of Service you agreed to; they apply to the individual agreeing, not the account you created, so don't try to Sea Lawyer us if you get caught. Just don't do it. Those are the three that will almost certainly get you into some trouble. IF YOU SEE SOMEONE DO ONE OF THESE THINGS, please do the following: Refrain from quoting the offending text, it makes the thread cleanup a pain in the rear Press the Report button; it is by far the best way to notify Admins as we will get e-mails. Calling out for Admins in the middle of threads, sending us PM's, etc. - there is no guarantee we will get those in a timely fashion. There are multiple Moderators in multiple time zones around the world, and anyone one of us can handle the Report and all of us will be notified about it. But if you PM one Mod directly and he's off line, the problem will get dealt with much more slowly. Other behaviors that you might want to think twice before doing include: Intentionally disrupting threads and discussions repeatedly. Off topic/content free trolling in threads to disrupt dialog Stalking users around the forums with the intent to disrupt content and discussion Repeated posting of overly graphic or scatological porn content. There are plenty web sites for you to get your freak on, don't do it here. And a brief note to Newbies... No, we will not ban people or censor them for dropping F-bombs on you, using foul language, etc. so please don't report it when one of our members gives you a greeting you may find shocking. We do our best not to censor content here and playing swearword police is not in our job descriptions. Sailing Anarchy is more like a bar than a classroom, so handle it like you would meeting someone a little coarse - don't look for the teacher. Thanks.

  1. Don't worry, they still have the Drews. You'll see, one of them will take them to the promise land. I think I just threw up.
  2. With the 2010 senior QBs, I agree.... But with a different coaching staff and the embarassment of 0-16, I see more like 5-7 wins next year...lol That may be a bit optimistic but, hell, who knows? If the Lions have taught us anything it's that you simply CANNOT predict what they'll do or how they'll perform. That includes drafts. I'll just watch with amusement to see if they blow another one. With their awful track record, they'll probably win just enough games to prevent them from being in a position to take one of the 2010 QB's. "I'm a Lions fan and I hate myself"
  3. And for every Matt Ryan or Flacco, there are ten Vince Youngs, Matt Leinarts, Joey Harringtons, Ryan Leifs, and a lot more. Tom Brady was a late round pick. None of the highly touted qbs available this year have the same "cant miss" tag as Ryan did. Stafford and Sanchez both have question marks I would agree with Chinabald, the Lions have too many holes on defense and O line that need to be filled first. What good is a franchise quarterback if you can't protect him or let him on the field? I think you're giving them too much credit. Can you believe, when they were 0-9 they were still talking about how they weren't eliminated from playoff contention yet? Many of the players were speaking as if they were a legitimate team with bona fide NFL players. They still seem to think they're a player or two from contending. I'm with you, I hope they take care of the lines before they go for skilled positions. If not, their new QB should take Cipher's advice to Neo "when you see an agent....run, run your ass off".
  4. I hope they draft defense in the first round, Josh Freeman in the second and defense the rest of the way I wish much the same thing, but I wish a lot of things. I'm just another disappointed Lions watcher(can't call myself a fan right now) whose seen great opportunities squandered again and again. Bobby Layne's probably laughing right now because his curse has outlived even his expectations.
  5. I would be surprised if they didn't go for Stafford. The Lions seem to have a problem paying number 1 pick money to a lineman. Yes, they've screwed the pooch on the last however many first round picks(save Calvin) but that's not a reason to NOT pick a QB. Is he the next Bobby Layne? Doubtful. But, Culpepper is a mystery and I don't think Stanton is the answer. He can't seem to stay healthy. My only hope is, if they choose to take Stafford or any other QB, that they go line and D with the remainder of their higher picks. That said, if Backus really is moving inside to guard, they may still think line. I just don't think so.
  6. Heeling is a very good way to restablish control over pulling tendencies re-emerging. I agree. However, I have three and it takes individual time with all three. When they're together, forget it. They're family pets, not working dogs. They do the basics, but only really respond to my voice when they're excited. And, of course, with three kids and a wife that feeds them from the table and then gets mad if they beg, consistency is an issue. So, we use the leader. I have never walked more than one dog at a time (or owned more than one at a time) so I'll have to defer. And you are spot on, consistency is 90% of the success formula. The other 10% is avoiding thinking about them like they're people. I am impressed with the design and theory behind the product with the clip at the front. The secret is to break their focus from whatever is motivating the pulling and return it to you. That lead seems very likely to do just that and in a very humane manner. If I ever get another dog I'll likely try that lead & harness combo. I've always used a braided looped collar with much success. Sadly after we lost our last dog we realized we are coming up on travel time with retirement looming and it doesn't seem fair to have a dog only to put her up in kennels or farm her out for prolonged periods of time so we decided to not get another dog. Just didn't seem kind or responsible. I sure miss having one though.....a lot. Three dogs and three kids......................you have my admiration (or sympathies I'm not sure which is most appropriate!! ) Well, the dogs are all males(or used to be) and, if too much estrogen starts to flow, I can always go work on the boat(with the dogs).

  8. Or dogs dressed as Petey... If that dog is so harmless why is he wearing a prong collar? Because he had a tendency to pull while being walked, so 2 months of walks with the training collar cured that. He now wears a regular collar, and no longer pulls like he used to. Interesting how you assume the presence of a pronged training collar equates to a dog not being harmless..... Actually, I equate the prong collar to an owner who doesn't have control of his dog. And that's not a good thing. Try this next time: http://www.buygentleleader.com/View.aspx?p...der/description My 90lb Lab and 105lb Shepherd both have gentle leaders. Now my 45lb daughter can walk them both. I'm going to give that a try if he starts pulling again. Do you find your dogs can be walked with regular collars after time on the gentle leafer, or, do you keep them on the gentle leader? I keep the gentle leader. Only because the're used to it by now. They see me take it out and they know it's time for a walk.

  10. Detroit sports fans might be interested, but not terribly surprised, to find out that the odds of the Lions winning the 2010 NFL championship are set at 150-1. That’s good for dead last, or 32nd out of as many NFL teams. Here are the odds: New England Patriots 6-1 Pittsburgh Steelers 7-1 New York Giants 8-1 Indianapolis Colts 8-1 Dallas Cowboys 9-1 Baltimore Ravens 11-1 Carolina Panthers 12-1 Philadelphia Eagles 12-1 Tennessee Titans 12-1 San Diego Chargers 14-1 Arizona Cardinals 15-1 Atlanta Falcons 16-1 New Orleans Saints 18-1 Green Bay Packers 20-1 Minnesota Vikings 22-1 Miami Dolphins 25-1 Washington Redskins 25-1 New York Jets 28-1 Chicago Bears 28-1 Jacksonville Jaguars 30-1 Tampa Bay Buccaneers 35-1 Denver Broncos 35-1 Houston Texans 40-1 San Francisco 49ers 40-1 Buffalo Bills 50-1 Seattle Seahawks 60-1 Cleveland Browns 60-1 Cincinnati Bengals 75-1 St. Louis Rams 100-1 Kansas City Chiefs 100-1 Oakland Raiders 100-1 Detroit Lions 150-1 There we go. Buy your season tickets now!(it's the only way you'll get to see good teams play in Detroit).
