    Mt. Hood rescue Chinook helicopter

My hats off to the tilt rotor community. Unlike an airplane or helo, total loss of power in a tilt rotor is a guaranteed crash. You are hanging your butt 100% on the power plants, transmissions, gearboxes, drive shafts, couplers, etc etc etc...At least with most fixed wing or rotors you have a fighting chance. That being said, I think the Osprey has a pretty good safety record now. To fly is Heavenly, but to hover is Devine.

Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth

An even more extraordinary tale is how the NRA and Koch industries is paying Tom Ray of Punta Garda Florida to argue their message for them on a political forum with 17 visitors. You crack me up Random.

    Flying car anarchy

Flight controllers. Anyone can point and shoot now. You don’t fly these by the seat of the pants. You have to throw out all the old notions. These machines are not capable of being hand flown. The future is here. They used to say people shouldn’t go faster than a horse can run.

    Flying car anarchy

I don’t think these will operate by Visual Flight Rules (VFR) in congested airspace. The National Freeflight initiative will be a mix of IFR and VFR Ithink. Basically you request a route, and the software de-conflicts for you, getting as close to the requested route as possible. This is also going to save big bux for the airlines, flying point A to B.

    Flying car anarchy

Software is in the works that will de-conflict flight plans automatically, they’ve been working on it for over a decade. The sky is a very big place.

    Drug Prohibition: Still Stupid

A prominent member of the board was also deeply concerned about the effects of second hand smoke on the populace. He forgot to mention the numbers of those killed by it, like those by tobacco.

3/4 of the signatures necessary to put it on the ballot, that is.

    Drug Prohibition: Still Stupid

Oklahoma just legalized medical MMJ, but the Medical Board imposed restrictions that said not in the smokable form, against advice of their own council. And the will of the people, it seems. And, like alcohol sold in convenience stores that has limited alcohol content, it must be limited in THC content. A pharmisist must also be involved, though they can face charges from the Fed Gov for dispensing it. A newly emboldened smoking populace has now gathered 3/4 of the signatures necessary to legalize recreational use of the Evil Weed. This in the buckle of the Bible Belt. Its a brave new world.

    the weddings off!

The other evening I was looking at a large spider that was floating on a thread under an oak. A bird swept through like a blur and the spider was gone. I wasn’t the only one watching apparently.

Think what you will of the guy. I think they developed this dive cylinder from parts of the Falcon rocket. I think they did it in the time since the kids were found in the cave. Pretty remarkable.

    the weddings off!

There was show on NPR recently devoted to birds. They are the most prevalent life form that we encounter, other than humans, on a daily basis. They are highly intelligent, socialized, and some have adapted to their environment in ways that exhibit remarkable skills of all kinds. Everything from flying hundreds of thousands of miles in their life with astounding navigation skills, to mimicking sounds their environment, including a pretty convincing chainsaw from the Australian Liar Bird. One of my favorite books as a kid was Jonathan Livingston Seagull. Gulls are interesting birds. I’ve always been a sort of junior Ornathologist.

You’ve said this or some variation on this theme dozens of times that I’ve seen in my light browsing, probably hundreds of times. When does it finally get impossible for you to believe, and where will that leave us?
