Girl with patreon account goes sailing in hot place

    Solo Figure 8 record?

I'm surprised there hasn't been more chatter about this fellow, it is quite an accomplishment. Here is another article with an interview, he is very mattter-of-fact and humble about things: This Solo Sailor Looped the NW Passage and Cape Horn Twice in One Epic Year Here is the official website: figure8voyage.com/blog/

Hmmm, I do need a new come-along. Not sure it is worth the drive and the effort to prepare a suitable Viking funeral for the rest of that poor vessel.

    Craigslist - Not mocking

I'm putting this here more for the ad than the boat. Most buy & sell ads are lacking a lot of essential information about the vessel, whereas this one tells you a story about it, gives you every last detail about the equipment and evens lists the seller's views of the pros and cons of the vessel. And he'll even deliver it and teach you to sail. This guy clearly loves his boat. Given the lavish description, the pictures are pretty lame and the happy faces for privacy are a bit creepy. 31 foot Sailboat, nay, Gentleperson's Yacht

^ Thanks, FO. Looking at the website, he appears to be a very creative, talented and interesting dude. Had I the spare change, I would definitely buy some of his sculpture, or maybe commission some kind of cool outdoor cook stove. Just not the boat. Though the spartan interior has a certain appeal, and that wood stove would keep you cozy on those cool Lake Superior evenings. Just realized that I've driven by that fish in Marten River a few times, it is quite eye catching.

    Mocking Ads on Craigslist

I wasn't sure whether to put this here or in the ugly boat thread but I think the price makes it mockable, considering what else you could get for $30,000 CAD right now. Anybody want to buy the S/V Dill Pickle? https://www.kijiji.ca/v-sailboat/thunder-bay/custom-made-steel-sailboat-for-sale/1428203050?siteLocale=en_CA

    Mocking Ads on Craigslist

Ooops. Seems I missed it on the first go rounds, then was fooled by the fact that the current ad was posted just four days ago. Can't believe someone hasn't snagged it so their kids could have a pirate ship instead of a tree house. Or, as you say, an awesome one-off bonfire.

Free boat, what could go wrong? Better yet, it is a "Schnooer." In fact they'll pay you $800 to take it away. https://www.kijiji.ca/v-sailboat/markham-york-region/free-30-wood-schnooer-sailboat-we-pay-you-800-to-take-it/1424643273?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true

This just popped up in my Facebook feed. The best part of the ad: "Just needs to finish top deck and some details." I am not even sure of the intended purpose of this vessel: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Aluminum-Boat-44ft-unfinished-project-/182945957870?_trksid=p2385738.m4383.l4275.c10

    The 2018 Golden Globe Race

Here is an article on the GGR that just popped up in Outside Online. Likely nothing new here to you followers but well-written and a good summary for those of us not so familiar with the history: https://www.outsideonline.com/2325796/golden-globe-race-voyage-madmen

    Craigslist - Not mocking

Point taken, though the 4'-ish draft seems to be OK among Georgian Bay sailors. Sailed a Mirage 27 with a 4.33" draft up through those islands once, I was on the bow with a lead line and we only bumped once... Really, I'm just a sucker for the woodwork.

    Craigslist - Not mocking

If I didn't have to buy a new car, I'd be very tempted by this Vindo 40 in Wiarton, Ontario. Not common in North America but my bit of research shows that they are very well-built vessels with good sailing characteristics. If you don't mind a bit of varnishing now and then. And it is 31', not 40. That refers the sail area somehow. Swedish thing, I guess. Price is in Canuckistanian currency: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-sailboat/city-of-toronto/sailboat-vindo-40/1334392389

Women of the VOR in the New York Times

Marie's portrait is included in the article. It states that there were 22 women sailing in the race and there are 13 images, so maybe not everyone was available. In any case, very interesting read and great images.

VOR Leg 11 Gothenburg to The Hague

What a fantastic edition to follow, and so much more so with all the insight and entertainment provided here. Ups, downs and all around the world. Congratulations to all the sailors in the VOR, hope you get some sleep.

Final four boats now within a mile of each other on the DTL, that would be something to see live and in person.

Girl with patreon account goes sailing in hot place

This may not qualify, since it is two guys sailing from a cold place to a colder place, then maybe to a hot place. In any case, it could be an interesting voyage to follow as two Canucks sail the St. Lawrence River, up around the coast of Labrador, through the NW Passage and on to Hawaii. They just put their boat in the water, so only one short video so far: https://avoidinice.com/

    Ridiculously Overpriced Boats

Ha, I crewed on Bagatelle in the summer of 1983 (-ish). It was the "learning boat" and I learned a lot. Don (the owner) was very patient with newbies like me. One of my cherished memories is blasting back to Kingston from the US side after the Freeman Cup race, sun shining, the Stones blaring from the tape deck and eating pancakes whipped up by Don. Good times.

    Show your boat sailing thread

My first job was building Sirens in Owen Sound , Ontario back in 1978, later we got a Sirius 28, the Sirens big brother (Sister?marina sailing 003.jpg) Ha. Did you build my Siren? I figure that it is from the early to mid 70s. My first job, after delivering newspapers, was building Laser masts at Performance Sailcraft. Jumped that ship after a couple of weeks and spent the rest of the summer building Challenger 24s. I learned a lot about gelcoat repair that summer.
