      Abbreviated rules   07/28/2017

Underdawg did an excellent job of explaining the rules.  Here's the simplified version: Don't insinuate Pedo.  Warning and or timeout for a first offense.  PermaFlick for any subsequent offenses Don't out members.  See above for penalties.  Caveat:  if you have ever used your own real name or personal information here on the forums since, like, ever - it doesn't count and you are fair game. If you see spam posts, report it to the mods.  We do not hang out in every thread 24/7 If you see any of the above, report it to the mods by hitting the Report button in the offending post.   We do not take action for foul language, off-subject content, or abusive behavior unless it escalates to persistent stalking.  There may be times that we might warn someone or flick someone for something particularly egregious.  There is no standard, we will know it when we see it.  If you continually report things that do not fall into rules #1 or 2 above, you may very well get a timeout yourself for annoying the Mods with repeated whining.  Use your best judgement. Warnings, timeouts, suspensions and flicks are arbitrary and capricious.  Deal with it.  Welcome to anarchy.   If you are a newbie, there are unwritten rules to adhere to.  They will be explained to you soon enough.

  1. laugh or cry?

From what we don't know so far due to the complete sanitisation of actual detail, I get the feeling that the fishing boat was running no lighting (which would be no surprise, maintenance costs for poor fishermen and all). If that were the case, is it conceivable that there could be grounds for redress if the fishing boat was practically invisible?
  2. SailTimer wind instrument

We have the original windvane (tube and vane on masthead) and it isnt quite as accurate as it used to be. The hall sensor has a few degrees of inaccuracy but otherwise its still sending and receiving fine. Batteries seem fine but we only use it for racing. Got it all hooked up to a raspberry pi now, big numbers on the ipad. All groovy. Dont like the look of that new version though.
  3. VOR Leg 4 Melbourne to Honkers

Probably under motor if they're doing 5s/6s
  4. VOR Leg 4 Melbourne to Honkers

Yeah, that's a pretty weird search pattern, those GPS positions are logged what, every minute?
  5. VOR Leg 4 Melbourne to Honkers

When the fuck are they going to buy a decent satphone connection? The OTW interviews are appalling. Something something inmarsat.
  6. you make the call

14 B still applies and they get tossed out.
  7. Sydney to Hobart 2017

Lawyers and PR continues to kill the sport, more news at 6.
  8. caption contest

Some people buy a set of new sails to win a regatta. Others, like Terry, find a water-blaster to be just as effective.
  9. what is it?

  10. Poll: Next AC Boat

Old people care about legacies, yo.

This is because your average kiwi couch potato cares only for the colour of the jersey and a sense of elation at seeing one of them holding medals or trophies... and when they don't, wifey gets a black eye. I fear the nationality rule will be a gigantic kiwi circlejerk that puts Larry and Russell's board-stacking to shame.
  12. Team NZ

Looks like they'll be schmoozing at the yacht club afterwards too.
  13. AC36 - The Venue

That red sock though. Cringe. It's a good time to start bowling the old silo yards down at wynyard quarter.
  14. Poll: Next AC Boat

    AC50s, ropes only!

Yeah, it looks like OR took the decision to isolate their hydraulics instead of connecting them all together. The rules were pretty open about use of the foil control cylinders. But really it seems strange that Oracle opted to not do the same in their initial design, because if the course became skewed and you were running short beats on one of your tacks, you'd end up with one side being low on pressure due to the grinders not pressurising the corresponding cylinder for that foil. Even if they could "choose" to pressurise one cylinder over another, it would make sense to load both at once because as the cylinders reach the limiting pressure, they become a lot harder to fill, which is putting your grinders though a lot of bullshit. This was demonstrated by the cyclors seemingly always peddling away at the same pressure, but the OTUSA grinders frequently hitting a peak and stopping.
