    Charter Recommendations

I have never sailed the San Juan Islands- I'm sure it will be alot of fun. As far as bareboat chartering, I would highly recommend getting Navionics for navigation. I typically have it on an ipad and an iphone. (the ipad for planning a course on a bigger screen and the iphone to have something smaller and close to me while sailing to check on speeds and distances at various times.
  2. Just curious...How would you rate the quality of the common charter boat brands (Jeanneau, Beneteau, Bavaria, Hanse, and Elan) and why?

Can I charter a small sailboat in Cancun?

Thank you both. That will work! As long as I can get out on the water!
  4. I will be in Cancun for a couple of days and, as always, I would like to get out on the water. I have been looking and it doesn't seem like there is much of a charter business in Mexico. Does anyone know of a place that charters small sailboats (bareboat)? Even a Hobie or sunfish would be fine if that's all they have. Any info in appreciated!
  5. WOW...that sounds like a adventure of a lifetime. Congrats on being brave enough to pull away from the daily grind and enjoy life. I know how hard that is to do! (and yes, I always thought a great way to raise a responsible kid is to give them responsibility...but thats just an opinion as I have no kids myself)
  6. Yes, I have heard it is common to experience all four seasons in a day!
  7. Yeah, I agree. I would almost worry if someone was that generous cause too much can go wrong. I was hoping to find a local charter company that I hadn't found on the Internet.
  8. What a great adventure! How many days were you at sea? Was that part of a club or just friends?
  9. Thanks for the info. I tend to like bareboat renting but that hooker looks pretty cool- it would be fun to sail her even as a passenger!
  10. Thanks for the info. I think the sailing club might be the best bet. I see that they rent various lasers and other dingies but that might be a little "exciting" to take all the way to the Aran Islands. (I think a dingy could make it on a good day but it would likely be a cold miserable experience and I would catch too much shit from my gf!- that is why I included "reasonably dry" in my message.) I ideally I would be looking for something 20ft - 30 ft. Thanks again for the info.
  11. Im looking for a small sailboat to charter out of the Galway area. I was hoping to sail over to the Aran Islands and along the Cliffs of Moher. Just a daysail. Has anyone sailed/chartered in this area? I was hoping to find the smallest sailboat that could get to the Aran islands and back reasonably dry!

Looking for boat to borrow from LA to Catalina.

Look at Marina Sailing. It a charter company comprised of people's personal boats https://marinasailing.com/ They have a great selection of Monohulls and Catamarans. You could head to Catalina quite easily from from Newport Beach, Long Beach, Redondo Beach (King Harbor), or Marina del Rey. I'm not sure if you are familiar with Catalina but while Avalon has a small town which might be more fun for the whole family, two harbors is typically the favorite destination for boat people (one restaurant, one convenience store, one bar, and a bunch of boat people!) PS- there are a bunch of J-boat people here so your swap offer is probably attractive to someone.

Alcohol Laws When Sailing in the Mediterranean

Just curious, when cruising Turkish waters as a tourist, do you have to be careful not to enter Greek waters or can you go back an forth once you have a Turkish VISA? (As a US citizen that can go to Greece easily).

    Greek Island Charter

Thank you, Jackdaw, for correcting me. I have an IPC from ASA (International Proficiency Certificate). It worked for me in Italy last year (2017) and Greece this year (2018). I looked into getting a certification from RYA and found no locations close to me in California.

Alcohol Laws When Sailing in the Mediterranean

Wow, that’s a crazy story. I guess you probably have to be really careful when cruising the eastern most Greek islands so you don’t sail into Turkish waters (without a visa).
