You'd be one of the few... Reminds me of the old joke when the Govt changed. The incoming PM asked the permanent head of the Public Service how many people worked in the Dept of PM & Cabinet. The answer was, about half, but with a lot of effort maybe they could improve on that. FKT

Ah OK, my sincere commiserations. I spent years working in a job that I hated because I was well paid, had 3 small children and it was in the place best for my then wife's career. In the end it wasn't enough. The reason I said it was because I've had a number of jobs over my career where I would have done what I was doing for free. Getting paid was icing on the cake. My long term GF likes her pets and garden a *lot*. That isn't a problem right now, but it could be. FKT

Maybe Storming The Capitol Wasn't Such A Good Idea

Agree. Erdogan has basically done a bloodless coup and is fucking up a secular State, turning it back into somewhere you don't want to be. Funny thing though, for once even the Left would have a hard time blaming the West in general and the USA in particular for this. I'm sure they'd try though (cue usual suspects....) FKT -
Because you still enjoy it? I had my 'fuck you I quit' money a long time before I did. In the end it was because I'd had enough of my boss and I was going to fail my next medical, mainly due to stress (see said boss) and that meant I wouldn't be going to sea. No sea time, time to leave, so I quit as soon as I got the medical report. 2 days notice and I was gone, came back as an act of grace & favour, unpaid, to do a handover a bit later on as I didn't want to screw my team over. Hindsight, should have gone a year earlier. You'll know it when it's time to walk away; my only advice is that when the time comes, do it immediately, don't stop to think about it. FKT

Girl with patreon account goes sailing in hot place

Yeah. No problem with jokes like that from me, lots of them are deserved anyway and if you can't take it, you shouldn't bring it. I've heard a lot of definitions of the perfect woman too but I'm not going there. Mainly because I've had long term close relationships with very bright women and am still on very good terms with my first wife. FKT -
No argument from me there. Now for bonus points, what is the percentage of right wingers vs left wingers over the same time span? If it's much higher, then - duh. They're the ones with the opportunities. To be clear, I am not saying that right wingers are less corrupt than left wingers, I am saying that there is a quite significant percentage of corrupt politicians of all strands and it is the *corruption* that needs to be dealt with, not just the corruption of those belonging to your political opponents. Every time I bring this up AJ just deflects because he doesn't want to even vaguely discuss the (possible) mote in his preferred group's eye. He's not interested in addressing root causes, just attacking his political opponents. I'm interested in fixing the root causes and let the chips fall where they may. Note his total lack of response to or suggestions to fix electoral issues like gerrymandering. FKT

Is that a joke book? I thought it was a textbook. FKT -
Try answering the question instead of avoiding it in your attempt to blame everything on one side. If the Republicans are in power more often than the Democrats of course there are going to be more corrupt Republican governors. You're trying to imply that Democrats have some virtue or resistance to corruption and I don't buy it. They just, in your State, get less opportunities to exercise it. Power corrupts and access to power corrupts which is why they all need turning out on a regular basis. That at least breaks up the cosy oligopolies & cliques. Well, it did until the advent of corporates making donations/buying politicians in both parties. Pretty easy to claim that there's not been a corrupt Democrat governor in Ohio in recent history if there hasn't *been* one at all. That's sort of like my elephant repellant logic. FKT

Yeah my plan is to take off a bit over a table saw kerf inside the f/g epoxy layer so about 3-4mm off of a 35mm batten. If they end up too flexy (and I don't break them) I can always laminate another layer of unidirectional f/g on. I made them from Alaskan yellow cedar which was really nice to work with but $$$ so I don't really want to waste them. FKT
-
Corrupt politicians of ALL sides are a constant. Are you really going to have the bare faced hide to claim that there's never been a corrupt Democrat governor in US history? FKT

Yeah - about March, with luck...

Funny that. GF asked about going sailing this w/end, I took one look at the forecast and said no. Listening to the wind ATM, that was one of my better decisions. FKT

That's why we used to take 3 containers of spares with us on long voyages in the Southern Ocean. If you didn't have it and couldn't jury-rig it, you were SOL. Reminds me - I need to order some spare water pump impellers.... FKT

Bamboo is really tough stuff. I couldn't get anything suitable here - need 6m lengths for the mainsail. Unidirectional glass in epoxy on both sides adds an enormous amount of stiffness, I think I could probably halve the thickness of my battens. Maybe a job before next summer. Assuming this summer ever gets here. FKT

Maybe Storming The Capitol Wasn't Such A Good Idea
Fah Kiew Tu replied to Jules's topic in Political Anarchy
The people that crossed the barriers are fair game. The others - dunno. Deluded fuckwits for sure but see my reply to sloopy. Did those actions fall outside their right to peaceably assemble and ask for redress? I've my doubts about the peaceable bit if you bring weapons and I've no doubts at all if you cross a barrier line and enter a building while in company with armed people. Point was, you were saying one thing that was totally non-responsive to what the first poster said. And you still can't acknowledge that - this is a diversion. FKT -

Agree about the time but - if they stayed outside the barriers, they may well be deluded, but did their actions rise to a level that violated the 'peaceably assemble and ask for redress' right? Tricky one, that. FKT -

Yep - you have reading comprehension issues, for sure. Or perhaps you could explain how "No, I said that anyone who did any violence should not be pardoned" equates to what you said above? Help me out here - is there some higher logic I missed? FKT -

Fah Kiew Tu replied to Jules's topic in Political Anarchy
Yeah OK - I can't see the benefit of locking up most of those fuckwits, is all. It'll just make them worse, as it did the nascent Nazis following the beer hall pusch. There has to be a better way. Breaking rocks in the hot sun for example. Or cleaning roadside trash while wearing a SEDITIONIST shirt in the morning and attending civics classes in the afternoon. Pretty much anything except locking them up with a bunch of like-minded people in an environment where they're *guaranteed* to cluster together with the worst white power racists already there for survival. They need to by punished, for sure. But in a way that doesn't make things worse. FKT -
How to Economically Destroy your Country as Quickly as Possible
Fah Kiew Tu replied to Grrr...'s topic in Political Anarchy
You know, you're as bad as the Trump followers. In fact your resistance to acknowledging reality is pretty much indistinguishable. That 'detain' word you like to use. Do you 'detain' every person who comes to your door by denying them entry to your house? You deliberately choose to use terms like 'concentration camp' attempting to convey images of the Nazi atrocities and mass murder, knowing full well that we have and will do nothing of the kind. You're doing it right now, equating what China does to the Uighurs and others with us excluding people from our country. But using those terms - IOW, lying - doesn't bother you at all. Just like Trump and his elk wailing about a 'stolen' election. So, just as in their case, I've nothing but contempt for your dishonesty. FKT -

Maybe Storming The Capitol Wasn't Such A Good Idea
Fah Kiew Tu replied to Jules's topic in Political Anarchy
Agree with a caveat - make them commit to attending say 100 hours of civics classes and some form of logic/bullshit detection classes. Successful completion, get a pardon. Locking up a bunch of deluded right wing fuckwits with lots of other right wing racist fuckwits is just going to make them cluster together in jail for mutual protection and reinforcement. You want to break that up at the start. Same exception for those carrying weapons, cuffs etc - they went in with a purpose, they failed, no pardon for them. FKT -
Rig modification: longer+higher boom and more sail area?
Fah Kiew Tu replied to Jud - s/v Sputnik's topic in Cruising Anarchy
Autostream props come with a grease tube/zerk that goes right through the anode. No need to remove anything. FKT -
Probably can, in fact I think I made my battens overly stiff. I used unidirectional f/g in epoxy on them and that added a hell of a lot of stiffness. One of the things on the very long list is to either take them off & run them through the table saw then re-glass the cut face, or make a new set of thinner ones. Fine line between battens that are too stiff and battens that break in a gybe in heavy air though. We've broken a few on Werner's boat but the Hasler type rigs are nowhere near as controllable as the Colvin rigs IMO. Tom's rigs have all the batten sheetlets doubled with effectively 2 sheets so you can take up on the lazy one and control the swing a lot more easily. Plus they're closer in rather than right on the ends of the battens so better positioned. I can also rig a preventer which you can't really do on the Hasler type rigs. I like experimenting so no real downside making/modifying battens except the time and a bit of materials. ATM I'd rather get the hard dodger finished & installed. If you've seen Troy's, you'll have a good idea about how mine is getting built. FKT

Day tanks - who’s got one, how did you set it up?
Fah Kiew Tu replied to Jud - s/v Sputnik's topic in Cruising Anarchy
Probably but I don't plan on experimenting by taking mine out. It's useful to prime the system - I can pump fuel from the day tank through the injector pump and back to the day tank via the return line. Day tanks do add complexity for sure. OTOH they also add peace of mind and a known good/clean fuel supply. I pump mine up when it gets to half full. A pump failure would be annoying but as it's a gear pump it's unlikely to fail and with 20 litres in the tank (my half full point) I can get somewhere anyway. Long distance cruising - I'd have something else as well. Maybe. I can't see it as a bigger risk than failure of the lift pump and keel only tanks which is the setup most boats have. How many of them carry a spare lift pump? Damn few I'd reckon. FKT
