There are far too many of them in 'safe' seats that are, in short, fucking morons. They *deserve* to be wiped out. If stupidity and a massive sense of undeserved entitlement doesn't have consequences, there's no reason for any of them or their replacements to behave better. My philosophy has always been that if you can't see a discernible difference between the incumbents and the opposition, vote the incumbents *out*. If nothing else it helps to break up their cosy feedback loops of money & influence. Besides it'd appear the Lib/Nats have almost managed to balance the budget again. That means it's time to elect the ALP so they can fuck it up once more. Should take them at least a year and by then I'll have my new boat sufficiently sorted that I could leave the country for a few years on the first decent weather window. The AUD-NZD exchange rate is still in our favour. PS: Like you I don't care who they have sex with - that's between them, their partner(s) and their god(s). As long as they don't do it on public time & money. Funny how they are objecting to the rules of not having your mistress/whatever on the payroll of your electoral office - the Barney Rule by Turnbull. No wonder they voted him out. FKT

Heard them all including the 2-neck hole T shirt one. Don't care one way or another. Some are funny, some not. It's a fact that the Tasmanian population is more genetically 'homogenous' than the mainland. One reason, IIRC, why the Menzies Centre was set up there in the first place. Tasmania is a cold, relatively remote and quiet backwater. I like it that way. I encourage everyone to move to Moreton Bay surrounds. People from Western Sydney would fit in particularly well around Wynnum Central. Queenslander jokes are more prevalent. FKT

Just what gender was he snuggling up to, to use the word 'mate' in that context? Not that I actually want to know. Must be considerably more to it than a bit of strange if he's had to resign and there's been a referral to the Federal Police. FKT

    WTF Australia

This is true. Praise the Lord for it, too. My new boat is lying alongside the fitting out wharf for a weekly rate roughly equivalent to the daily rate in Sydney. Which is where I am ATM. Too bloody hot & humid and *waaaaaaay* too many people. Give me the plant life of Tasmania any day at this time of year. FKT

Pretty much nobody but you sees that. Perhaps the problem is in your biased perceptions rather than political reality. Face it, Turnbull couldn't command a majority of his party members to support him remaining as PM. Exactly the same as Rudd, then Gillard, then Abbott. No difference at all except for the margin(s) of rejection of the then PM. Morrison was *asked* to stand for PM you know. OK it was to stop Dutton, so what - he's arguably got a cleaner pair of hands than Turnbull anyway. Meanwhile he *is* PM, he does control the levers of Government, no election has been announced nor is likely before May 2019, so his decisions are legitimate in all ways that matter. Suck it up princess. FKT

Oh dear, how sad. I've no time for Morrison and his religious fellow travellers. I've also no time for Shorten and his union puppet masters. Both sides do stuff that's bloody hard to undo - that's why they do it. Why should the ALP get to do stuff for their supporters and you give them a pass, yet you whine all over the internet about the other side doing it? I've come to expect neither logical thought nor consistency from you, but you could at least *try* occasionally. FKT

Amazing. It's taken you until the 16th of December but you've actually managed to make a correct post in 2018. Well done. Maybe next year you'll be able to double your score. I wouldn't have a tile roof either - every house I've built has had a Colorbond steel roof. Bit noisier but the peace of mind is well worth it especially in the season where a big thunderstorm might roll in and dump an enormous amount of hail on Sydney. Tile roofs get pulverised and collapse; steel roofs just get dented. FKT

So..... just how far out from an election should the sitting Government not make decisions? Or is it that they should only refrain from decisions you object to? Furthermore, does this mythical requirement to cease making politically contentious decisions only apply to the Lib/Nats, or is Labor similarly enjoined? Finally, who decides whether a decision is one which needs to be deferred until post-election? I'm quite certain that you'll make no attempt to answer any of these questions, because your statement is a total load of rubbish. As you (should) well know the convention is to refrain from *domestic* politically contentious decisions from the day an election is called. Foreign affairs decisions are always the prerogative of the sitting Government. I personally don't give a flying fuck about where our Israeli Embassy is and the only reason you do is because you don't think Israel should even exist. Tough shit. I don't like them and I think they're basically a bunch of racist arseholes, but a lot of that was shaped by their treatment over the last 6 decades so - shrug. Pox on the entire area as far as I'm concerned. FKT

Easy enough to deal with if it's on the land. Put in a composting head and a grey water system. I know what the rules are here. I built my house *and* all its plumbing, black & grey water systems. Inspected, certified and signed off by the licensed plumbers etc and totally legal so don't even think to tell me I can't do what I say I can do. Steam Flyer can set you straight if you don't want to take my word for it. FKT

So what they're really saying is, there has been some form of coral reef somewhere close to where it is now, at various periods in the past, and other times - like the Glacials - it was many metres up in the air and dead as a dodo. Then re-colonised during the next warming period. Well, duh. But that is *not* the same as saying that the Great Barrier Reef is 500K years old because it most certainly is not. As they say, 6K to 8K years old is believable. Which incidentally is damn good indication that it'll nicely survive a 4C atmospheric temperature rise and a corresponding sea temp rise - assuming both actually come about. The difference is, the barrier reef might be off of Tasmania. I won't mind at all as I'll have a deep waterfront property to keep my new toy. You can keep all those clowns chartering boats in the Whitsundays though, we don't want them down here. FKT

I'd park it on the tidal flat right out the front of my place. Alternatively I'd drag it over the foreshore and onto my property, level it and use it as guest accommodation. Where I live, as long as I pay the annual registration fee (peanuts) I'm golden as far as the rules go. A registered boat on my own property is exempt from local government property regulations WRT second dwellings etc etc. And we don't have personal property tax, thank god. FKT

Arriving in Australia without a visa is illegal. Seeking refugee status is a mitigating circumstance. See, that wasn't so difficult, was it? Now the fact is that there's nothing in the refugee treaty that says we have to give more than safe haven so as long as we provide food & shelter and a minimum of support, we've met our obligations. We can keep people accepted as having a valid fear of persecution on temporary restricted visas forever if we so choose and still be within our obligations. No way I'd agree to granting permanent residence to anyone who came without prior vetting and an offer of placement. The others, yeah, we are under some obligations, but minimal. I've said it before - get a job, any job, keep working for a minimum of 5 years, then apply for a status change. Sit on welfare, stay on welfare and no permanent resident visa, no family reunion rights and if you go back to the country you fled for a visit you've demonstrated that it's safe for you and our obligation to provide safe haven is at an end. Funny how the ALP is already lining up how to white-ant the current system before they're even elected. FKT

By who or what organisation? Given the Pleistocene Ice Age only ended 20K years ago the current reef area would have been somewhat elevated at that time. As I keep pointing out nearly all the geographic features on the coast are the result of rising sea levels. FKT

I love those old sawmills. In fact I once built a scale model one with a 36" diameter blade that was driven off of my tractor PTO. A man named Rick Buxton published a DIY book and I used that as guidance. After using it for a while I mothballed it up on my country property. Thought I'd quit while I still had all my limbs and my back wasn't *totally* shagged. It worked fine though, just I was over the hard work. I have a lot of respect for timber workers. It's a very arduous & at times dangerous job. Edit: some years ago I was given one of those old square head thickness planers to restore - it had a 20" wide cut. After fixing it & using it for a while, I sent it on its way. Too risky for me, I'm quite happy with my modern DeWalt 12" thicknesser. FKT

Oh poor me, I did something really, really stupid and now I have to tell the world about it. I've a number of cuts and burn scars from building my boat. Each one is a reminder that I did something *stupid*. They're nothing to make a vid about. Not to mention the near misses - one time I managed to hook the lifting chain around the release toggle on a plate clamp and dropped a 3m x 1.8m sheet of steel to the ground when lowering it. Hell of a clang and a close call with needing to change underwear. Nothing more because the lift was only such that the bottom edge was maybe 100mm off the concrete *and* I was conscious of where my toes were at all times. It was still careless/stupid and so is what he did. FKT

Just change the birth record to XX, XY, XXY or whatever. Not rocket science and nobody - yet - has come up with any way of changing *that*. Didn't any of you clowns study science? Difference between phenotype and genotype. If people want to change the appearance of their external genitalia, whatever. Someone who started life as an XX still isn't going to produce sperm in the fake testes and someone who started life as an XY isn't going to be able to get pregnant (from normal intercourse anyway).... I'm really, really hoping that this 'trend' catches on and becomes Australia-wide. I can see making some serious money in its implementation (even though it's trivially simple). The Y2K fracas was a gift, I never thought I'd see it's like again. With luck, I may. FKT

A bit of cognitive dissonance. The Federal Government has banned Huawei from any participation in Australia's 5G network infrastructure because, as a Chinese company, they're legally obliged to do as directed by their Govt, including embedding spyware and routing data to Chinese officials. No proof that they've done so, but they *could*. OK, fair enough. Next..... The Federal Government has just passed a bill whereby they can force Australian companies to use all means including writing new code and updating systems to spy on people/organisations that the Federal Govt, in its secret wisdom deems to be some form of security risk. Furthermore, said companies are forbidden to confirm or deny that they have been given any such direction. So - if it's OK to ban Huawei, why shouldn't the rest of the world do the same thing to Australian companies? My take - as per usual both sides are complete fucking technical idiots. But hey, they're going to damage a lot of businesses in the process. Note that my little efforts are outside scope so I've nothing to gain or lose here - I already pretty much exclusively deal with Govt authorities and only for closed network (no public face at all) systems. I just think this is completely insane *and* futile. So does my son and he's pretty well up in the internet security side of things for one of the major ISP's here in Oz. Gonna be a lot of fun seeing how this plays out. FKT

Ha ha ha. You could have just acknowledged that you were wrong, you know. Wouldn't have looked as stupid then. Fact is that power had never been used BEFORE 1975 so on your logic it could not have been used, right? Wrong. It has happened, there have been no changes of substance, therefore it could happen. Deal with it. Not my problem if your schools never bothered to teach you any of the history of your own country. FKT

You've obviously forgotten the Whitlam debacle. I haven't. The GG put it to a vote when Whitlam's govt couldn't get their money bills through the Senate. The Australian population overwhelmingly endorsed that decision by voting a quite massive swing away from the ALP. I voted for the first time in 1974. Pro Whitlam in the double dissolution election. Voted against in the 1975 one when it had become obvious what a bunch of incompetents they were. The GG can still do that - force a Govt to face the electors. I'm quite happy that that power remains and is almost never used. The possibility and the knowledge that is *has been* (and was endorsed by the electorate) is generally sufficient. But I really wouldn't like to see it in the hands of some Party hack put out to pasture as President. Reckon I'll keep on voting for the ratbags first-up. They offer higher entertainment value. FKT

Come on you have to give credit where it's due. Howard was opposed, sure, but he took a pretty hands-off approach. The model chosen was basically Turnbull's baby. Howard put it forward as he'd agreed to do with whatever model was selected. It sank like a stone. Should have been an early warning about the quality of Turnbull's judgement I guess. Or Howard's Machiavellian nature if you want to blame him for doing what he said he'd do. I don't give a shit about the entire royal family or their collection of hangers-on. I'd happily support a republic if offered a model I thought was going to be at least as good as what we have right now. But one which gives more power to our politicians? Forget it. The main virtue of the current setup is, the person who can make a final captain's call in extremis is a LONG way away and not involved in local politics. A President with the sole power to dismiss a Government if in their sole judgement it's required *AND* exiled from Australia to the other side of the planet for their full term, I'd probably support *that* model. Nobody ever is going to put it forward though. FKT
