    I still call Australia home

Randumb is even easier but trolling conspiracy nutcases is a waste of my time. Been there done that. As for women's issues on a political forum you may not have noticed that I agree with you about the issues at least as much as not. I generally take exception to some of your proposed *solutions* because I think they won't work. Anyway I've got a man with a boat on the hard who needs a pile of welding & machining done, a quote for software development that's 3 days overdue and it's a nice day (so far). Time to feed the chickens and play boats for a couple hours. FKT

I'm got lots to do today so let's just consider that a catch - and now a release. Swim along and try not to take such obvious bait, OK? FKT

Notice Meli's deafening silence on this issue? Compared to the shrill attacks on Abbott for something he probably did as a student politician to another student politician some 40 years ago.... I don't have any problem believing the woman, FWIW. Combine entitlement with excess alcohol and you get sleazy middle-aged men who think it's OK to stick their hands inside a woman's knickers and have a feel. Now he's still denying it *and* threatening to sue the woman for going public. FKT

Who really believes tariffs are good business

Sorry, forgot you weren't a US citizen. Trump's tariffs on Canadian aluminium has to rate right at the top of stupid things to do. FKT

Umm, the Brazilians are supplanting the US exports of soybeans etc to China. Makes no difference to me, I don't live in the USA, Brazil or China. OK if China's economy takes a dump that will affect Australian exports and might have some effect. Second or third order effects though. OTOH your farmers are taking it up the arse thanks to Trump's tariffs on Chinese imports. Do you feel like you're winning yet? I still think that China needs to be taken to task about their predatory mercantilist practices and outright theft of IP but what Trump has done is really a massive own-goal for the US economy. FKT

So basically tariffs are good for US Govt tax revenue and farmers. Brazilian farmers. FKT

36 months I'd say but spread out over more years - I usually spend at least 4 months working on other projects, usually interstate to warmer climates in the winter. 12m single chine boat, 7.5 tonne displacement. That time includes all the interior construction, plumbing, wiring, making custom bits, sewing the cushion covers, making the sails & masts etc etc. I haven't paid anyone to do a single thing on the boat. Got some help from friends along the way but basically a single person's time. Building the hull was the easy part. If I were to do it again I'd be at least 25% faster, probably 33% and possibly even more. But you have to pay your dues. I have a pretty long mental list of things I'd NEVER do again, too. Starting with making my own opening bronze port holes, a subject that still causes me much pain every time I think about it. But they do look good. FKT

I wasn't aiming the comments specifically at yours. I've watched most of yours, FWIW. Don't take this to heart but as a person who's fitted out a steel boat, I'm waiting to see just how badly you misjudge how long things are going to take. And yeah, that *is* the voice of experience talking. My build went precisely as expected, however. It's way over time and budget. And now if I include the cost of driveway work, it's *waaaaaaaay* over budget. But what the hell, it's only money. FKT

Good luck changing human nature. Porn has been one of the biggest drivers for tech on the internet. I could take exception with the implied pretentiousness of describing what you do as 'honest videos' as opposed to those doing the bikini babe thing. If I cared enough. Which currently I don't so I'll just make that point that you want to be careful implying that those others are making 'dishonest' videos simply because they do things differently. As far as I'm concerned all of the YouTube vloggers running Patreon or similar accounts and shilling the same in their videos are in the content for money biz. Some are more interesting/successful than others. Attractive and scantily clad women are ways of getting more paying punters. I have no problems with that. Free Range Sailing is one of my favourites. Troy is laid back and *highly* technically competent. Pascale is cute, good on camera and very nice to look at in her swim wear. They have an old 30 foot boat, go interesting places and do stuff. And, unlike a number of vloggers I can think of, they don't spend 75% of their time talking to the camera about stuff they're *going* to do, they get out there and do it. FKT

There's a dead wombat that you're allowed to pat - it's an art object in the University Museum next to the Brisbane Botanic Gardens, I forget the name. OK it's *supposed* to be a cow lying down, but it looks a hell of a lot more like a wombat. One could get some 'interesting' pictures posing with it. Provided the attendants weren't watching..... FKT

I don't have a problem with the majority of people on parenting benefits. They need them and they don't abuse the system. As I've said, a close friend of mine is a teacher and she sees a lot of Centrelink clients who get enrolled in courses for aged care, disability care et al. Cert 3, 4 & Diploma level. A certain percentage are total wastes of space and time. She routinely fails them and gets a pile of shit for having done so. The majority pass, get jobs and start moving up the employment tree. Others - well, they're a waste of space for sure. Most recent story, one of her nephews (this *is* Tasmania, land of backward inbreds) was shacked up with an unmarried mother, already with 4 kids by 3 fathers (I guess it's diversifying the gene pool at least). Anyway, youngest is approaching the age when benefits stop and amazingly she gets pregnant again, supposedly to the nephew. He was going to acknowledge the child and pay support until his auntie cracks it big-time and insists he asks for a DNA test to ensure he actually *is* the father. All of a sudden the woman involved isn't interested in pursuing the matter and definitely isn't interested in any DNA tests. Funny thing - nephew is part of a farming family with a decent amount of money. This scion isn't too bright - lovely man, but not bright. But at least he isn't on the hook. Meanwhile the woman gets to keep collecting parenting benefits for another 8 years and doesn't have to get a job. Pardon my my cynicism. FKT

Ummm, that's at least part of the idea. If a person is insulted enough, maybe they'll get off of benefits. Not defending some of the more stupid things the outsourced 'support' providors get up to, though. But when it comes down to it, you take the King's Shilling and you do what you're told for it. And people studying for Uni degrees (At least in the STEM areas and others that have significant employment prospects) rarely need motivating, they are motivated. It's the lazy cows who left school at 15, quite probably pregnant, and their even more useless series of male sperm suppliers who need the kick up the arse. FKT

My country property in NSW is overrun with the little bastards. Their favourite habit is digging burrows in the middle of the farm tracks. I couldn't bring myself to shoot them even if it was legal - which it probably isn't. Feel free to come & live-trap replacements any time you need one. FKT

I got promoted to manager. Many times. I always ended up resigning. I like building stuff, not telling other people how to build stuff. A team of 10 is about the max I was ever happy managing. Pretty much all my staff from my last managerial stint still talk to me so I must have got something half right. Anyway I just came in for a coffee after welding up another bit of stainless jewellery for my boat that I probably could have gotten by without from now to eternity, so I wouldn't put myself forward as any exemplar of avoidance of time-wasting follies. It is strong and likely useful though. Nice square socket for a table, a winch, a vise or anything else I want to mount to a bit of 50 x 50 square tube and drop in the socket. One day I might congratulate myself on my forethought. Pity about the job list I'm *supposed* to be reducing though. As for the rusty junk man I'm well & truly over him. His standard of work is worse than Brent Swain's and that's a pretty difficult achievement. FKT

There is an option that works reasonably well if you have sufficient depth of hole. You put in 2 set screws, one on top of the other. With Loctite on the top one. Of course, if you forget (or the next owner doesn't know) there are 2 set screws in that hole - life gets interesting. But it's not because thay've come loose.... FKT

Lynn Pardey is hanging about up at Scarborough ATM, I'm reliably informed. Perhaps the sight of her would help the healing process. At least she actually knows how to sail. FKT

Agree. What a crock. They filmed themselves talking on a mobile phone with the original builder. I skipped forward in chunks to see if things improved. Nope. Talking about stuff you might do one day while begging for donations. FKT

    E-nav on the cheap

Enjoy. Got to admit that my sailing plans extend from here to Bruny Island and back, and there's a mooring I can borrow over in Barnes Bay so I don't have to bother getting the anchor wet. I've a choice of 3 moorings out the front of my place and another in Prince of Wales Bay up town. I thoroughly enjoy playing with boats & building boat bits but long distance travel in a small one, after spending many years going places and getting paid for it, well, not so sure about that. I doubt we'll ever go very far. I really don't like hot humid climates and there's no air con on the boat. FKT

Agree. I've wanted to do a micro-scale map of my mudflats complete with current flow. One of these days when I'm bored. Already screwed with the longshore drift to build myself a beach so I can keep my dinghy there. I have a hankering for a small island (ok flyspeck islet) next. If I have good data on where to put it I might be able to screw with the wave refraction as well and eventually form a tombolo. Doubt I'll live long enough to see the end result but I can't do it the quick & dirty way nowadays. FKT
