Made my point quite nicely though, now you're trying to shift the goalposts in the hope that people will skip over your fuck-up. FKT

Yeah OK - I scanned that too fast. Anyway the answer is, as you say - nothing. China can do what it likes WRT UN resolutions, assuming there were any critical ones, just like the USA, Russia, France and the UK. Doesn't really matter though - if the Chinese sank a US warship over there, all Meli would do is tell us all it was their own fault for not staying home. FKT

Don't mention those - they weren't done by the USA so Meli doesn't want to know. FKT

Can't you even use Google nowadays? https://www.reuters.com/article/us-vietnam-china-southchinasea/vietnam-protests-beijings-sinking-of-south-china-sea-boat-idUSKBN21M072 FKT

Ummm, from the Chinese POV those are NOT international waters. That's kind of the point. Did you miss that bit? And they've sent a fleet of fishing vessels escorted by the PLA Coast Guard (armed vessels) into Indonesian waters so what makes you think they aren't willing to sink a ship or 2 to make their point? I'm pretty confident they wouldn't sink a US Navy ship. I'm by no means as confident they wouldn't sink an Australian Navy ship given the total unreliability of Trump to back us up if it came to it. Another Interesting Home Built Steel Boat

"Not a lot left to do inside". With a bare hull that needs cleaning and painting. Then insulating and lining. And plumbing and wiring. And cabinetwork, bulkheads and soft furnishings. Not a lot left. Suuuure. About 4 years worth unless he gets a ton of volunteer help. FKT

This is why it's wiser for you not to post anything. China is a permanent member of the UN Security Council with a veto. The UN cannot apply sanctions even if they were willing to do so. FKT

Well of course if there was a hot war all contracts would be void. But there isn't and hopefully won't be. Your position then is basically we should cut China off from all Australian materials, have I got that correct? FKT

So contracts for supply mean nothing to you? Anyway I was giving Meli an opportunity to tell us what she thinks we should do in the full confidence that she'll do nothing of the sort, because it's easier to carp from the sidelines than think of something positive. FKT

So why aren't you complaining about China then, instead of us? After all they're the ones who lost the international court case. But no, you want Australia to say nothing and do nothing. I don't trust the Trump Govt as far as I could throw his obese arse but that's not the point here. FKT
  13. Now I'm really depressed - I only made it onto one of his lists. I thought for sure I'd be a shoo-in for the village idiot list. Not to mention the smarmy know-it-all list, which it seems he hasn't gotten around to as yet. Oh well - must try harder. FKT
  14. Well, that still puts you a long way ahead of the OP. He hasn't understood a single thing after his first post on boat design. Looks like the chew toy has departed. FKT

That's the second person here who's got their dinghy painter in the prop. I should show these to my GF who thought I was being a PITA by point blank refusing to tow a dinghy so she could go ashore. I knew damn well that sooner rather than later I'd run over the painter. I ended up fitting davits and now we have the dinghy with us and no painter to run over. However that hasn't stopped me running over a mooring pennant in a moment of utter stupidity and having to dive to free the damn thing. Luckily the water was warm. And we were in no danger of drifting onto the shore... FKT
  16. Well, as usual from you that's fucked, because the correct answer is to tick BOTH boxes. Or perhaps in your universe the Hong Kong protests recently didn't happen, nobody got gassed, nobody got beaten, nobody got cuffed & arrested. OK, maybe not kneeling on the neck of someone until they're dead in full view of people with video recorders. The Chinese aren't quite that smug & arrogant - the people with cameras would be off to the gulags and their internet access removed. FKT
  17. Use an impact driver and if that doesn't work, spot-weld it. You can always sell the thing before you have to service it and if not, that's why they invented angle grinders. FKT
  18. Agree - I've got a lot of their stuff installed in my boat and am very happy with its quality. But I dread dropping a screw into the bilge. My parts kit goes from M4 to M12 in various combinations of Philips, socket and hex. I don't want to have to carry any others. Oh yeah - control cable ends are 5/32" IIRC for one bit and 1/4" UNF on the other end. It's not, fundamentally, a matter so much of 'better' - I can and do routinely work in thousandths or ten thousandths of an inch, or microns. The SI system is arguably more logical but if the world was using the inch and similar archaic early Industrial Revolution measurement standards and only the useless French were making stuff to metric standards, I'd be bitching at them. It's a matter of STANDARDS and CONSISTENCY. Else, sooner or later, you auger something very expensive into a planet. FKT
  19. Don't we all - most of my machine tools are inch based. When I built my boat I went to considerable pains to make every fitting metric, still failed, still have to carry 2 sets of spanners. But at least we try. Funny thing about boatdesign.net - in the past there were people like the fuckwit OP who'd turn up asking for free advice, get some in world-standard units, then turn around and ask 'What's that in real numbers?' Reaction - if you're too stupid to know how to use a calculator for conversions, you're too stupid to bother with. FKT
  20. Not to mention the Chinese, Koreans and every First World country on the planet. IMO you guys no longer rate as First World because you can't manage to run a health system that serves the needs of the population. OTOH your comments about imperialism are spot on, because you've done your best to re-create feudalism with the 1% owning everything and the peons having to suck up for bare sustenance. Where'd that fuckwit OP go? I'm sure there's lots of entertainment to be extracted yet. He hasn't had an epic melt-down and spat the dummy. FKT
  21. I had to buy a handful of 1/2" Whitworth socket head cap screws a couple months back. Much sucking of teeth and muttering about maybe special order, but they have a lot of stuff there. Eventually a dusty old box was found. They were needed to mount a Bridgeport vertical milling head (made in the USA) onto a Kearns OA horizontal boring mill, made in the UK in the 1950's. And the holes in the casting were tapped 1/2-Whit. And the ONLY size that won't interchange with UNC is - 1/2" Whit. Because the UNC standard is 13 tpi for some idiotic reason known only to a theoretical engineer somewhere who'd obviously never run a lathe. God knows there are a heap of criticisms one can make over the SI system but at least it's (mostly) a decent standard. And I'm sorry to point out that you're wrong, else Blue Sea gear isn't made for export, because they do NOT use metric screws. Unless #8-32 is a metric standard that's totally passed me by. https://www.bluesea.com/products/5023/ST_Blade_Battery_Terminal_Mount_Fuse_Block This shit happens all the time and it's really fucking annoying. Sailing to Desolation Sound in a Nor'Westerly

Stick a magnetic GPS tracker on their vehicles. Tell them that if they deviate from the allowed route they'll be fined, deported and their vehicle forfeited. I've pretty much lost my sense of humour with self-entitled arseholes. FKT
  23. I don't even get what his point is. I didn't spend 10X the cost of materials to build a floaty thing (unless I have to include the 'value' of my labour anyway). I spent the cost of materials. But then I can build stuff not just petulantly demand that others do all the work for me and be grateful for the privilege of helping my with my ignorance/lack of ability. FKT
  24. This always gets the US peoples' noses out of joint but the fact is, they lack the ability, willingness or most likely both to fully convert to the metric system. They are the only country left on the entire planet that won't. In a lot of ways I see it as a failure of will and symptomatic of the stupidity embodied in their current political leadership and denial of reality. I won't buy stuff that isn't made to metric measurements and using metric fasteners if I have any other choice at all. I certainly won't bother converting metric measurements and standards to inch. Fuck that. FKT

    Conspiracy Theories Are For Losers

OTOH, it doesn't surprise me in the slightest. A PhD in political science is the functional equivalent of a doctorate in religion and worthy of the same level of consideration. FKT
