    Portland "officers?"

What I've been saying all along. The behaviour you walk past is the behaviour you accept. Might be only a few bad cops actually doing shit, but it's the other 98% of them closing their eyes and walking on by. They get tarred with the big brush because they do nothing to correct their fellow workers. Basically it's on them. FKT
  2. And also, according to a mechanical engineer I know who's corrected some of the Westlawn stuff, not always correct. Gerr 'conservative' - ROFL. Translation: Gerr specifies stuff that's way heavier/stronger than I want to build. You've gotten all the hints you're going to get from me. If you post a set of dimensioned sketches of hull & rig with sail plan you may elicit further comments from people. Otherwise - shrug. Ask Brent, or Doug. They know all there is to know, all you have to do is ask them. FKT

Nah, the Murray River on the NSW-Vic border at Albury-Wodonga. Big road blocks there ATM. FKT
  4. Really, it wouldn't matter. Someone could give this fuckwit a complete set of drawings and specifications plus detailed and extensive notes on how to actually build it and it'd still never get started. He's just another internet wanker. Bot design is a reasonably friendly and helpful place provided you're half-reasonable yourself. If he thinks he's going to get more help here than there, he's severely deluded. Or, as has been said, just a troll. His problem with that is, lots of people here *like* playing with trolls, just like my GF's cat likes playing with mice. Which rarely ends well for the mouse.... FKT

Doug From SV Seeker Fakes Head Injury

Doug did with that hoax video of his, actually. Before that it was obvious that he had no regard for engineering or safety but was resourceful and entertaining. When he did that, though, he crossed a line with me. FKT
  6. For Fuck's sake! Tom Colvin did these rigs decades ago. Everything you need to know is in his books. If you haven't got copies of his books on steel boatbuilding and junk sail making, you've done no research at all and really are wasting everyone's time. Just FYI - though I'm likely in your ignore list - i BUILT a junk rigged schooner so I know a lot about the whole caper. I built the masts, cut/spliced/swaged all the rigging, made all the battens and sewed the sails. I could give you a lot of information, but you're an arrogant and conceited fuckwit, so I'm not going to tell you anything about how I did it or what I used for the masts etc. I've posted that information elsewhere, your assignment is to go find it. FKT
  7. Well, except for the minor detail that I built my 12m 8 tonne steel boat *and* think Brent is a complete fuckwit with less engineering knowledge & welding ability than my 6 month old grandson, you'd have some good points. It seems that you have even less engineering knowledge than Brent, which I frankly thought impossible, so I have learned something new today. Carry on - you've now painted a very large target on both your front and back. You won't be here for long. FKT

    Dinghy build: Two-Paw 8 nesting

Bloody hell - I've got 4 M10 bolts holding my Chameleon together. Actually they might be M12. Can't check ATM. And I pissed off the wing nuts and made big timber knobs that you can get a decent grip on with captive nuts on the other half. FKT
  9. Naughty, naughty. No moving the goal posts. The original reference was a heel to 30 deg, NOT a knock-down. Address *that*. Tell me how it can't happen with my boat hull and rig. That should provide the onlookers with entertainment while you thrash about. FKT

We have plenty of space on Christmas Island for people like that. I got across the river out of Victoria 48 hours before the hard lockdown. What I'm wondering is, how long it's going to take to get back to Tasmania. Fortunately a couple friends of mine have their sailboat up here in Sydney and are sailing back in October. I can crew for them and we can go Eden to Schouten Island non-stop. FKT

Girl with patreon account goes sailing in hot place

I really like watching those vids. Every time I do it reinforces the wisdom of my decision to build a steel boat. They've spent far more time with 4X the person-hours getting to where they are now and they haven't even finished the hull yet. OK there's a style & elegance about those wooden boats. Same with Salt & Tar. Lotta work on a wooden boat. In their case made worse by choosing the - IMO - most ugly hull George Buehler ever drew. Good thing Ruth is so scenic. Of course then there's SV Seeker and Rusty Junk on the other hand... FKT

One month after opening, Covid 19 spiking

I agree with all you're saying here, Jack. I've not liked anything about this virus since I first read about it back in December/January. It has been utter idiocy to not try to suppress it so as *not* to have it run rampant. For Florida and therefore by extension to the continental USA I'd say that time has now gone - there are too many cases. Good luck people. You'll need it. FKT

Not sure that 'smart' is the correct word, there. I agree that once the virus reaches a certain level it's too late to contact trace & isolate. Florida is most likely there, in which case, it's going to get really ugly. Maybe Puerto Rico, being an island and all, might become a desirable residence. As long as they cut off air transport and have strong quarantine that is. FKT

So, Saorsa is only 100 years behind the times. Who ever would have guessed that... FKT

    Portland "officers?"

They could always sue for restoration of services. More than one side can use the courts as a method of delay. I have a problem myself when 'protest' turns into obstruction and denial of access/services plus property damage. I too think this is over the line. HOWEVER, I have a MUCH LARGER problem with armed Govt officers without identification assaulting people on public streets (or anywhere else) and kidnapping them. That sort of behaviour needs to be utterly extinguished and the managers right up the line of command fired. FKT

What are all the issues that need fixing in 'Murica?

Be interesting to see you list the things you want in a modernisation, too. Our constitution was designed to be difficult to modify without the informed consent of the electorate. Most amendments fail because they're more or less disguised grabs for greater Federal Govt power. Now you obviously approve of this because you want to abolish the States, but the electorate disagrees with you. One change I'd like to see would be the ability of a minimum of 2 States to propose an amendment which went on the ballot for the next Federal election. Make it 3, I don't care. Because currently the Fed Govt is the only source of amendments so naturally won't propose anything they don't want. THAT is a flaw. FKT

What are all the issues that need fixing in 'Murica?

So, even less relevant then. OK. FKT
  18. You'd make an excellent point - except for the minor detail that I have a 12m steel shoal draft sailboat not a wood/plastic toy. And where I live & sail you get wind bullets that can cause wind speed to jump from 15 to over 30 knots with little/no warning. FKT

    Diesel Engine Delete

It may be possible one day. I read recently about some process that - I think - 3D printed PV cells. The efficiency sucked and the life wasn't great, but it was dirt cheap. So it's a start. Interesting anyway. FKT

What are all the issues that need fixing in 'Murica?

So, no response, then? I thought not. You've got a lot more in common with Jeff than you might be comfortable contemplating. Both of you are happy destroying or standing by while others do, but NFI how to do it or how to replace the things you don't like. You can't even articulate exactly what you're wanting to rip up/out of your constitution. Oh well everyone feels your pain. FKT

    Diesel Engine Delete

Hmmm. 30 to 45 minutes on battery at 7 knots. Be still my beating heart at such performance figures... bet the price tag figure is in inverse proportion though. FKT

Doug From SV Seeker Fakes Head Injury

Doug has an enormous amount of energy, an ability to use inadequate tools to achieve quite impressive results, and a total contempt for anyone who actually uses engineering rather than WAG's to build stuff. That boat is structurally inadequate and way overweight. The next one of his vids I'll bother watching is the launch. That may well be the last one too. FKT
  23. Pretty sure I've had mine at over 30 deg in a heavy gust... FKT
  24. Fah Kiew Tu

What are all the issues that need fixing in 'Murica?

So how do you propose to accomplish that, then? Is a new revolution on the table? Note that I don't actually give a damn, I'm merely interested in seeing where your thinking is taking you. FKT
  25. Fah Kiew Tu

What are all the issues that need fixing in 'Murica?

So you don't *actually* mean 'rip up the constitution'. You ACTUALLY mean 'amend the constitution. Fine. What parts out, what new things in? We can leave for later how you think you're going to get a constitutional congress or whatever it's called together. Article V of the United States Constitution outlines basic procedures for constitutional amendment. Congress may submit a proposed constitutional amendment to the states, if the proposed amendment language is approved by a two-thirds vote of both houses. Congress must call a convention for proposing amendments upon application of the legislatures of two-thirds of the states (i.e., 34 of 50 states). Amendments proposed by Congress or convention become valid only when ratified by the legislatures of, or conventions in, three-fourths of the states (i.e., 38 of 50 states). Good luck getting THAT done nowadays. FKT
