Owner's manual for a Shipmate 701CH cabin heater?
Fah Kiew Tu replied to Kolibri's topic in Cruising Anarchy
Yeah that's what I remember it as. I made a tap to suit. FKT -
We are slowly getting assisted dying laws passed here. I'm ambivalent about this; one one hand if a person truly finds life unbearable, especially if they have a medically incurable and soon to be fatal condition, it's their choice and I'd respect it. On the other, I worry about pressure and abuse. Once someone gets to that point though, access to a morphine pump under their control seems a pretty good alternative to me. FKT

Rig modification: longer+higher boom and more sail area?
Fah Kiew Tu replied to Jud - s/v Sputnik's topic in Cruising Anarchy
Apology accepted. FKT -
Well, he got out the first time because it was going to be a long time to trial. As he's demonstrated that he can't be trusted, guess he can stay locked up until his court date. Problem bilong him. FKT

Will "Wokeness" will tear the Dem party apart?
Fah Kiew Tu replied to Burning Man's topic in Political Anarchy
AJ and Olsonist. Both make pronouncements and neither can or will back them up when challenged to do so. Recent examples, AJ and his treaty is part of constitution claim, Olsonist bitching about small States political representation without the slightest clue what he wants done about it. Just ranting about how it's not just unfair, it's SOOO unfair. Same as Dog et al. FKT -
Martial law , fuck the constitution
Fah Kiew Tu replied to Not for nothing's topic in Political Anarchy
Nobody has been disputing that. We've been disputing the claim by AJ that treaties, once entered into, become PART OF THE CONSTITUTION. They quite clearly do not. If you can't see the difference - shrug. You're probably one of his graduate students, God help you. FKT -
Rig modification: longer+higher boom and more sail area?

True, fortunately, because it keeps the riff-raff away from the bays and moorings, but incorrect. However you can see it from where I live. Port Huon is the end of civilisation..... FKT -
Rig modification: longer+higher boom and more sail area?

Agree. When I think of the number of boats on swing moorings here at the end of the civilised world and Sydney, the jewel of the South Pacific, the swing moorings still way outnumber the marinas. My boat has never been in a marina berth yet. Probably never will be except maybe for a short stay to be worked on if required. FKT -
Yeah but you're an import and a Pom to boot - that's a class in itself. FKT

When did I ever say either the USA or Australia withdrew from Geneva? Please quote my post making such a claim. Oh, small problem there - you can't. You're trying to change the subject again. Noted and ignored. You still can't bring yourself to just admit the bleeding obvious - your claim simply does not stand up. A treaty is not and does not become part of your constitution. FKT -
Don't care really - I like to be underestimated. We were on the Melbourne trams once and I hadn't found my Myki card or something. GF aid that if the inspectors got on I'd be in trouble. I just said I'd act dumb, point to her and say she was my carer, I didn't understand. She hit me, or tried to while trying not to laugh. She's spent a lot of time working with people with mental disabilities, it's how she manages me. Yeh some of this is pretty sucky and the blithe writing off of the aged as not worth saving is insulting and a wonderful reflection on those doing it. Something to consider going forward. We will see if Biden can bring any improvement to the USA. Cynical me strongly doubts it - he's too much a creature of the long-term political system and I don't think there's any will to change the health system. But he might manage something. FKT

Until withdrawn from. It still doesn't make treaties part of the constitution no matter how you twist and dance. So the sooner you admit this claim was pure hyperbole on your part, the less like a bullshitter you'll appear. https://fas.org/sgp/crs/row/R44761.pdf Partial quote: Withdrawal Under International Law Under international law, a nation may withdraw from anybinding international agreement either in conformity with the provisions of the agreement—if the agreement permits withdrawal—or with the consent of all parties.31Most modern international agreements contain provisions allowing and specifying the conditions of withdrawal, andmany require a period of advance notice before withdrawal becomeseffective.32Evenwhen anagreement does not contain an express withdrawal clause, international law still permits withdrawalifthe partiesintended to allow a right of withdrawal or if there is an implied rightto do soin the text of the agreement.33In thosecases, under the ViennaConventionon the Law of Treaties(Vienna Convention),34the withdrawing party must give 12 months’ notice of its intent to depart from the agreement.3 End quote. Now contrast that with a constitutional amendment and the repeal of same then continue your bullshit that a treaty becomes part of the US constitution as you claimed. You're flat wrong and can't bring yourself to admit it. FKT -

Try to re-phrase that. Something more along the lines of 'the ability to enter into and withdraw from treaties is mentioned in the constitution'. Which is a *long* way away from what AJ claimed and has been deflecting from ever since. FKT -
Triage, Meli. You've been told all about it before now. Not saying it's justified in this or every case, but when resources get to a pinch point, triage always applies. Nothing new here. GF's last and favourite aunt died in a Melbourne nursing home last week, had Alzheimer's for the last 3 years, couldn't recognise anyone. Floated off into palliative care on morphine and died quietly. FKT

If someone did that to me I'd tell them very politely that on reflection I was too busy to do their work, so sorry, try someone else. FKT

Yeah and it was a displacement thing to avoid dealing with the Saudis. Still is. It's a real pity none of your then leadership ever read any books on that area before sticking the dick in the grinder. The Brits learned - tit for tat punitive raids, the rest of the time if they stay home then leave them alone. Sooner you get out and then start thinking on how to deal with Pakistan who you currently have to at least pretend to be nice to, the better. FKT

Rig modification: longer+higher boom and more sail area?
Fah Kiew Tu replied to Jud - s/v Sputnik's topic in Cruising Anarchy
Yeah working my way along that myself. Reckon I'll just put an hour meter in parallel with the bilge pump. If the switch activates the pump, the hour meter will get some clicks. I put a lot more instruments on my engine than it came with. Got both oil pressure and temperature, plus a Murphy Switchgauge oil pressure gauge in addition to the electric one. I'd fit a Murphy water temp gauge as well but I'd have to make a new thermostat housing to get the sensor fitted. Too much hassle for an engine that's running on the cool side and really needs a higher temp thermostat now. AP for my boat is ~$4500. Looking at the DIY approach. Don't need one ATM so got time to play. Plus most or all of the parts can be used for other jobs in the machine shop so not a dead loss. I hate marine electronics, they're so damned primitive. Give me data on an Ethernet system any day. FKT -
Agree. I think the Taliban are disastrous for the country but - you can't make the Afghanis do what you want by military force. The British learned that lesson, as did the USSR. It was pretty damned arrogant of you guys to think you'd prevail. What sort of worked for the British was punitive raids and burning villages in reprisal for raiding out of country. These days using drones to blow up people would be the modern equivalent. I think the place is a medieval shit-hole but I see no reason to get more people killed trying to make it into the society Westerners might want. FKT

Fah Kiew Tu replied to Jud - s/v Sputnik's topic in Cruising Anarchy
Yeah - thinking of fitting an hour meter to my main bilge pump so I know if it's secretly running when I'm not there. I'm pretty certain that it's not, but I'd really like to know... Got 3 Arduino's with Ethernet shields on order ATM for data logging systems. Sometimes I think I'm building a minaturised version of the data logging system we had on our icebreaker. Other days I think I'm actually exceeding that. FKT -
I hate that too. Tell me what you want, I'll pay it or not, don't expect me to haggle over it. It just wastes my time and I don't find it entertaining. Anyone who advertises things with tags like 'call for price' is pretty certain to include me out. As for car dealers loading the price with non-negotiable fees they don't disclose in advance - we banned that practice decades ago. But we also have consumer protection/information laws that make your companies weep. FKT

I've made a few of those for Primus type burners. It's a really oddball thread I can't recall ATM. Not all that hard to make. FKT -

And I agree with you, but it requires being able to measure the operational time, which requires an hour meter or similar device (logbook for engine run hours as a non-tech option). How many engines come fitted with an hour meter? Mine didn't so I fitted one. FKT -
Except you didn't win the Vietnam War and you're not going to win the Afghanistan one either. FKT

As the Vietnam War and more recently Afghanistan demonstrates so clearly... FKT

Same applies to the invention of EPIRBs. FKT
