      A Few Simple Rules   05/22/2017

Sailing Anarchy is a very lightly moderated site. This is by design, to afford a more free atmosphere for discussion. There are plenty of sailing forums you can go to where swearing isn't allowed, confrontation is squelched and, and you can have a moderator finger-wag at you for your attitude. SA tries to avoid that and allow for more adult behavior without moderators editing your posts and whacking knuckles with rulers. We don't have a long list of published "thou shalt nots" either, and this is by design. Too many absolute rules paints us into too many corners. So check the Terms of Service - there IS language there about certain types of behavior that is not permitted. We interpret that lightly and permit a lot of latitude, but we DO reserve the right to take action when something is too extreme to tolerate (too racist, graphic, violent, misogynistic, etc.). Yes, that is subjective, but it allows us discretion. Avoiding a laundry list of rules allows for freedom; don't abuse it. However there ARE a few basic rules that will earn you a suspension, and apparently a brief refresher is in order. 1) Allegations of pedophilia - there is no tolerance for this. So if you make allegations, jokes, innuendo or suggestions about child molestation, child pornography, abuse or inappropriate behavior with minors etc. about someone on this board you will get a time out. This is pretty much automatic; this behavior can have real world effect and is not acceptable. Obviously the subject is not banned when discussion of it is apropos, e.g. talking about an item in the news for instance. But allegations or references directed at or about another poster is verboten. 2) Outing people - providing real world identifiable information about users on the forums who prefer to remain anonymous. Yes, some of us post with our real names - not a problem to use them. However many do NOT, and if you find out someone's name keep it to yourself, first or last. This also goes for other identifying information too - employer information etc. You don't need too many pieces of data to figure out who someone really is these days. Depending on severity you might get anything from a scolding to a suspension - so don't do it. I know it can be confusing sometimes for newcomers, as SA has been around almost twenty years and there are some people that throw their real names around and their current Display Name may not match the name they have out in the public. But if in doubt, you don't want to accidentally out some one so use caution, even if it's a personal friend of yours in real life. 3) Posting While Suspended - If you've earned a timeout (these are fairly rare and hard to get), please observe the suspension. If you create a new account (a "Sock Puppet") and return to the forums to post with it before your suspension is up you WILL get more time added to your original suspension and lose your Socks. This behavior may result a permanent ban, since it shows you have zero respect for the few rules we have and the moderating team that is tasked with supporting them. Check the Terms of Service you agreed to; they apply to the individual agreeing, not the account you created, so don't try to Sea Lawyer us if you get caught. Just don't do it. Those are the three that will almost certainly get you into some trouble. IF YOU SEE SOMEONE DO ONE OF THESE THINGS, please do the following: Refrain from quoting the offending text, it makes the thread cleanup a pain in the rear Press the Report button; it is by far the best way to notify Admins as we will get e-mails. Calling out for Admins in the middle of threads, sending us PM's, etc. - there is no guarantee we will get those in a timely fashion. There are multiple Moderators in multiple time zones around the world, and anyone one of us can handle the Report and all of us will be notified about it. But if you PM one Mod directly and he's off line, the problem will get dealt with much more slowly. Other behaviors that you might want to think twice before doing include: Intentionally disrupting threads and discussions repeatedly. Off topic/content free trolling in threads to disrupt dialog Stalking users around the forums with the intent to disrupt content and discussion Repeated posting of overly graphic or scatological porn content. There are plenty web sites for you to get your freak on, don't do it here. And a brief note to Newbies... No, we will not ban people or censor them for dropping F-bombs on you, using foul language, etc. so please don't report it when one of our members gives you a greeting you may find shocking. We do our best not to censor content here and playing swearword police is not in our job descriptions. Sailing Anarchy is more like a bar than a classroom, so handle it like you would meeting someone a little coarse - don't look for the teacher. Thanks.

  1. Would love to see some more photo's! Do you have to run aground for some attention? The owner may not believe we were actually there!
  2. So DAVO, with which boat are you intending to scare the bottom with this year? M VB can raft with jury rig. Figure if we run aground we just pick it up! Ballasted by a big esky. Performance should increase every 15-20 mins. I still stand by the claim the naviguessers were to blame?????
  3. Hoping to have another boat on the start line for the 24hr do. Just gotta get some safety gear on the boat and we're in. Plenty of crew but a lot of effort needed in these last few weeks. Hope we get there!
  4. I`ll go 96 only because I couldn`t get 69 Well maybe I lie Beat the drum and they will come!
  5. We went for the cause but I would be lying if I said we weren't sailing for a result as well. The organisers of this event have taken past criticism and even attacks on the organisation positively and made changes accordingly. Pretty sure all the feedback that everyone provides will be beneficial to an even better event next year. Come one come all! The invitation is out to the world. Regards Davo
  6. Chris, Was that you that I got the call from, via the HCW Mobile when you and Terra Australis met up? I hate to pour gas on a fire, but that call made me grin a bit: "HCW Race Mobile, this is Blake" "Hello, do you have the number for Coastal Patrol? We're aground near, ummm... Summerland Point." "You mean the phone number? Sorry, no, but I'd be happy to call them on VHF 73 for you!" (said with a cheery voice, of course) "Ugh... No!!!" (heard in the background) At that point I realized that the phone call was an attempt to avoid a public airing of being aground. Sorry 'bout that, mate! Not me but most likely the equally embarrassed navigation team At the end of the day however I was steering and I ran her aground!
  7. After the success of this years event can you imagine how big it could be with the participation of all lake clubs, their sailors and interstate/ international competitors? Here's one for you all. Let's make this one of THE biggest events held on an an inland waterway in Oz (if not the world!) Chris
  8. Although we didn't have it this time around. Something for all to consider for the cuisine. Hot dogs are one food that is welcome to anyone's belly and simple!
  9. I have being to try to participate in this event from it's inception and finally got the opportunity to do so this year. After being in communication with Shaun in the early stages of making a move to another location I was very pleased that the offer came for RMYCT to hold the event. I am hoping that all participants were happy with the new host and enjoyed their stay on the Westside! I sailed on "Inner Circle" and whilst starting well and pushing the boat hard to maintain a favourable attachment to the leaders we unfortunately found Terra Australis during the night and the bitch wouldn't let go The end for us! Another 6 or so tonnes lighter we may have kept in touch with the lighter fast sportsboats. I am sure we frustrated them a litte when it took them so long to throw us My hat is off again to Shaun and all the organisers AND participants of this years event and I can only hope that Toronto can host next years event and that we see an increased support around the lake for this great event and cause. Not only from LMYC but our own club and other clubs aswell. Fair sailing to you all and thanks. Chris
  10. My bad! I remember how this goes FUCK OFF NEWBIE!
  11. Manly won 40 - Nil
  12. Very glad to have been a part of this years race. Sadly it wasn't for as long as we had planned though! Got to get back out in the ocean away from land
  13. Well if you're the one on the hill singing and playing half a tree trunk going blubber, blubber, blubber while hanging off a goon your identity will be made!
  14. You obviously haven't visited Kurri or Neck Knock ( Cessnock) Two head country and you can hear the banjoes in the hills (main street)
  15. It's the angle of the dangle in layman's terms!
