      A Few Simple Rules   05/22/2017

Sailing Anarchy is a very lightly moderated site. This is by design, to afford a more free atmosphere for discussion. There are plenty of sailing forums you can go to where swearing isn't allowed, confrontation is squelched and, and you can have a moderator finger-wag at you for your attitude. SA tries to avoid that and allow for more adult behavior without moderators editing your posts and whacking knuckles with rulers. We don't have a long list of published "thou shalt nots" either, and this is by design. Too many absolute rules paints us into too many corners. So check the Terms of Service - there IS language there about certain types of behavior that is not permitted. We interpret that lightly and permit a lot of latitude, but we DO reserve the right to take action when something is too extreme to tolerate (too racist, graphic, violent, misogynistic, etc.). Yes, that is subjective, but it allows us discretion. Avoiding a laundry list of rules allows for freedom; don't abuse it. However there ARE a few basic rules that will earn you a suspension, and apparently a brief refresher is in order. 1) Allegations of pedophilia - there is no tolerance for this. So if you make allegations, jokes, innuendo or suggestions about child molestation, child pornography, abuse or inappropriate behavior with minors etc. about someone on this board you will get a time out. This is pretty much automatic; this behavior can have real world effect and is not acceptable. Obviously the subject is not banned when discussion of it is apropos, e.g. talking about an item in the news for instance. But allegations or references directed at or about another poster is verboten. 2) Outing people - providing real world identifiable information about users on the forums who prefer to remain anonymous. Yes, some of us post with our real names - not a problem to use them. However many do NOT, and if you find out someone's name keep it to yourself, first or last. This also goes for other identifying information too - employer information etc. You don't need too many pieces of data to figure out who someone really is these days. Depending on severity you might get anything from a scolding to a suspension - so don't do it. I know it can be confusing sometimes for newcomers, as SA has been around almost twenty years and there are some people that throw their real names around and their current Display Name may not match the name they have out in the public. But if in doubt, you don't want to accidentally out some one so use caution, even if it's a personal friend of yours in real life. 3) Posting While Suspended - If you've earned a timeout (these are fairly rare and hard to get), please observe the suspension. If you create a new account (a "Sock Puppet") and return to the forums to post with it before your suspension is up you WILL get more time added to your original suspension and lose your Socks. This behavior may result a permanent ban, since it shows you have zero respect for the few rules we have and the moderating team that is tasked with supporting them. Check the Terms of Service you agreed to; they apply to the individual agreeing, not the account you created, so don't try to Sea Lawyer us if you get caught. Just don't do it. Those are the three that will almost certainly get you into some trouble. IF YOU SEE SOMEONE DO ONE OF THESE THINGS, please do the following: Refrain from quoting the offending text, it makes the thread cleanup a pain in the rear Press the Report button; it is by far the best way to notify Admins as we will get e-mails. Calling out for Admins in the middle of threads, sending us PM's, etc. - there is no guarantee we will get those in a timely fashion. There are multiple Moderators in multiple time zones around the world, and anyone one of us can handle the Report and all of us will be notified about it. But if you PM one Mod directly and he's off line, the problem will get dealt with much more slowly. Other behaviors that you might want to think twice before doing include: Intentionally disrupting threads and discussions repeatedly. Off topic/content free trolling in threads to disrupt dialog Stalking users around the forums with the intent to disrupt content and discussion Repeated posting of overly graphic or scatological porn content. There are plenty web sites for you to get your freak on, don't do it here. And a brief note to Newbies... No, we will not ban people or censor them for dropping F-bombs on you, using foul language, etc. so please don't report it when one of our members gives you a greeting you may find shocking. We do our best not to censor content here and playing swearword police is not in our job descriptions. Sailing Anarchy is more like a bar than a classroom, so handle it like you would meeting someone a little coarse - don't look for the teacher. Thanks.

  1. It's fun watching these anonymous tiny handed schoolyard bullies - whose 90 post contribution includes such youth inspiring enlightenment as: Asshole: 14 times. Asswipe: 11 Douche-bag-canoe: 12. Dick: 12. Dick-smoker: 3. Dickhead: 2. Bugger: 6, Buggerer: 2. Fuck: 29. Fucked: 11. Fuckhole: 6. Fuck off: 7. Crap: 2. Shit: 6. Shitty:1 Dipshit: 1 Tits: 11 (well illustrated, I'd add). For the math challenged that's 135 useless, attention seeking, thread destroying, offensive and damaging swear words that contribute exactly nothing to sailing or the OP. Of what real value? To what purpose? Childish self-aggrandizement? Just a buncha bozos on a bus being driven through, and hopefully, out of town. What an amazing contribution of teeny teenage tripe that - seriously - adds nothing but is certainly undeniable evidence of weak egos desperate for attention via escalating scatology, et al. A fine example for the young readers who want to learn about sailing, cruising, repair and the buying and operating of boats. And let's not forget the majority of adults and older sailors who likewise don't want, need or seek their intrusive, unnecessary and outspoken bon mots. Some are religious, some simply don't find value in incessant and childish, beer influenced blather. But like all bullies they are forced to gather in a tight formation as circle jerks, priding themselves on their lack of pride and inspirational leadership. You know - the kind that fart at the party, then leave the room and smell for others to deal with. What great inspiration, and what a massive waste of time and bandwidth. Natch, they are quite proud of themselves and their ability to talk trash, but little else. They are so very fragile that these few cannot accept that maybe, possibly they did in fact pile on - not to educate, but to attract attention to their proud crude and useless stupidity. As for me - I could not have agreed more with the first few posts properly castigating the OP's poorly chosen actions. But as for the 90 rapidly deteriorating and completely uninformative, look-at-me, low rent drivel of which only they could possibly be proud. A waste of time. It's important to confront these tiny hand teenies, if only to let them know how ineffective and unnecessary and childish these grown men can be, and how little regard they have for anyone other than their tiny band of sycophantic blowhards. Carry on...
  2. "Vapid, fuckwitted douchecanoe...". I actually like that one, with its implied and mildly entertaining respect. Thank you! What no "tits"? HFC and JohnSloop will be very disappointed in you. This poster can surely do better in balancing his obsession of "asshole" and "buggery" with large breasts. Bisexual? You wish that of course. Al screwed up, then the bus full of brilliant bozos followed in turn. This poster doesn't need me to point out his anal fixations. This one guesses wrong. Apparently he/she has been away from civil society long enough that he/she can't believe anyone would take issue with this uh, sailing (?} forum. The malposters here are just a buncha bozos on the A-bus...
  3. It's clear that among these final three stragglers, that the beermeister is the alpha. When it comes to repetitive and cheep insults, my vote is still with the Sail4BudLite weight. Blowing off steam is fine. But to support endless crude insults - for over 60 posts yet - of an OP who is long gone? What's that all about? I suppose it could be worse; otherwise such posters might be beating their wives. Where's our resident spellchecker when we need him? Actually the quiet one is actually rather reasonable, and managed to comment without a single "asswipe", "asshole", or even a single dick reference. Amazing! I applaud the Whisperer for his self control. There are actually two subjects in this thread: first, the OP, who acted poorly and was told so.. The second - obvious to anyone - arises when a handful of loud mouths pile on, and fill the thread with one "asshole" after "asswipe", after "fuckhole", after "fuck off" - I gave up counting after about 30 such brilliant observations and put downs - first of the OP, and then of anybody who feels such excess is well, excessive Actually nothing says "asshole" more than a little Koch who actually says the word - repeatedly - and who clearly has an anal fixation.
  4. If by depth this poster is referring to depravity, he's entirely right. I have just as foul a mouth as anyone, but I don't need to repeat myself 60 times to make a non-point. Tell me that's not your best. Please! I'd say bare assed is more like it. The beermeister apparently doesn't get it's not about politeness - nope - it's about ego-challenged overkill. A gang of teeny toughs wearing lowriders and comparing ass-cracks and using swear words out of earshot of their mommies. Is there a winner? My votes going to SailBudLight...
  5. Here the poster - well representing his handle - changed my text in a less than clever ad hom. Here the very same beer fueled poster complains that I - in turn - changed his text, lol. Isn't turnabout fair play? The OP - yes a freeloader - was never defended by moi; to the contrary I made abundantly clear (to those who actually read) that I was in complete agreement with the negative observations of the first few posters. What I stand against are the beer enhanced posts that do not extend or refine the thread, but are little more than crude, ad home insults. It sure gets boringly unproductive after 30 or 40, now approaching 60 of these brainless bon mots. That'd be "Mr. Asswipe" to you, my friend, lol... Brilliant repartee in defense of the tremendous value of using "ass, dick and fackhole" as descriptors. But somehow I'm not convinced of the fine example these gentlemen(?) purport to set. Those who don't read are doomed to misunderstand. Of course I stand against the OP and said so unequivocally and clearly - but only for those who read. What tends to happen when there's too much beer and not enough time is that yet another foul mouthed poster fails to read posts before gleefully piling on. The deep thought and care that goes into these very educational observations is without equal. Let's watch the barstool beermeisters carry on. It'll be fun. After all, apparently useless repetition is the rule in these parts...
  6. Relax. Breathe. The first two or three posts were correct and deserved. We hardly need 40 more cheap and uninformative shots which add little, and quickly become boringly repetitive. Mr. Koch seems to have a dick fixation, lol... ( ) ( ) Me bugger off? If boring repetition is the game, why should anybody do so? I guess it depends on whose ox is being gored... Nope. Now while I do agree the OP was in the wrong, the first two or three posts saying so were quite appropriate. But we don't need 40 increasingly crude, pile-on, repetitions whose goal seems to be who can create the foulest, meaningless ad hom insults. Really quite boring and frankly some of them are not suitable for younger sailors. Sets a bad example. Gentlemen - which may be a reach at this point - it's time to consider when the point was made, and when simple repetition becomes a problem of its own. I'm sure most real sailors have better things to do. The famous "Three Wise Monkeys" had it right. Havabanana...
  7. Boring, repetitive pile-on drivel. The point was well made about 40 posts ago. Move along...
  8. While most would agree that the OP had not acted appropriately, fairly or intelligently - there quickly becomes a point - quite early really - that the repetition and escalation of pile-on ad homs become tiresome ad bombs of their own.
