      Abbreviated rules   07/28/2017

Underdawg did an excellent job of explaining the rules.  Here's the simplified version: Don't insinuate Pedo.  Warning and or timeout for a first offense.  PermaFlick for any subsequent offenses Don't out members.  See above for penalties.  Caveat:  if you have ever used your own real name or personal information here on the forums since, like, ever - it doesn't count and you are fair game. If you see spam posts, report it to the mods.  We do not hang out in every thread 24/7 If you see any of the above, report it to the mods by hitting the Report button in the offending post.   We do not take action for foul language, off-subject content, or abusive behavior unless it escalates to persistent stalking.  There may be times that we might warn someone or flick someone for something particularly egregious.  There is no standard, we will know it when we see it.  If you continually report things that do not fall into rules #1 or 2 above, you may very well get a timeout yourself for annoying the Mods with repeated whining.  Use your best judgement. Warnings, timeouts, suspensions and flicks are arbitrary and capricious.  Deal with it.  Welcome to anarchy.   If you are a newbie, there are unwritten rules to adhere to.  They will be explained to you soon enough.

  1. Looking for J24 Crew Lake Champlain Area

Where will the travel races be? I have several large J/24 regattas under my belt as a trimmer, including this past North Americans. Located in Colorado unfortunately, it's hard to find good opportunities to sail.
  2. Good boats for pre-teens

In one or two years, they'll be about ready to start phasing into a hobie. These will most definitely "go go go" when it starts blowing, but at that young you'll have to make sure they know what they're doing on it as they can be pretty tough to right in heavy wind when they go over. The 16 is an unreal amount of fun, I've been on them my whole life
  3. Where you tie fenders?

Cabintop winches work well if you've got em
  4. NFL 2017

The Mannings almost had it. Peyton, Eli, Cooper, but cooper hurt his neck/back and now nobody could care less about him
  5. australia must have been a nuclear waste dump at one time

    Is it not anymore?
  6. Eclipse Trip

I'm headed to Charleston to see it. Seems like that would be a prime spot to be, especially from out on the water. I can't be the only one with this idea though, probably gonna be packed
  7. NFL 2017

Titans are gonna be the team to keep an eye out for this year. I hate to say that as a Texans fan but they've been doing all the right things for the past few seasons and it's only so long before they blow up. it's gonna be tough for anyone in the AFC to get past the pats this year though
  8. NFL 2017

This was by far one of the best stories to come out of the whole Kaepernick fiasco! He won't be signed because wherever he goes, he'll split the locker room, the fanbase, and damn near the entire city in two. Politics need to be left out of sports it's getting ridiculous. Although apparently he did get a reasonable offer but turned it down because it was "backup money" and he considers himself above that
  9. Books on tuning/trim

If you're going into racing, buddy melges has a great book out there. It's pretty outdated so make sure you're up on the rules but most of the tactics still hold water. There's also a series of videos on youtube detailing all aspects including trimming (for a ns14, but still applicable to really any boat) that are extremely helpful https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPgzS5T9rs4
  10. Poll: Who is the America's Cup for?

It seems like they are becoming more and more concerned with turning it into a spectator sport, trying to attract a larger audience (read: bring in more money). And in doing so they lose most of the sailing population. I'd like to see the next winner choose to sail on foiling optis to mix it up
  11. Best multipurpose shoes?

I'm looking to get a new set of shoes but having trouble deciding what would be the best. I race a weird mix of boats so it isn't too straightforward: 420s, J/24s, and Hobie 16s. Up till now I've been using an old pair of nikes with all the padding taken out but those are getting pretty gnarly. Anybody have some suggestions for a lightweight, quick draining/drying shoe good for these purposes?
  12. Are J/24s Still Fun?

I would say hell yeah they are, but be ready to put in a good amount of time and money. Here's somewhat of an off-topic question: Whats the standard diameter & length for genoa sheets / what do yall prefer to use? We recently had a pretty rushed de-rig and long story short I owe my skipper a new set...
  13. Craigslist Finds

Has anyone come across used 420 dollies? Looking to score at least 3 for significantly cheaper than the $600 range I'm seeing for new ones
