  1. There really isn't a thread for general things Imoca 60's, and most people don't like to go to the Shorthanded forum anyway. So here you go, for your proper ocean racing imoca stuff, if you like. The following video is as much about the lovely Pip Hare and her Vendee efforts as about the Fastnet, so fits very well in here.

Michael Kahn seems to like that picture himself too: If you like photography, and who doesn't, I would encourage you to go through the sections here: https://michaelkahn.com/photograph_portfolios/ Some of my favourites:

I've got the same with a mooring ball in my collection. Nice photographs from the Michael Kahn collection. https://michaelkahn.com/ No idea what boat it is, though. Courtesy google image search, if you look a bit further...

Is this letter addressed to Donald Duck? Does a real/official letter not need to say to whom it is addressed?

Yeah, I remember, that 1909 game was epic, the Aussies were pretty good in the scrum.
  9. Those two have at least one thing in common: a stupid name. Oh, and are both run by idiots...

How about a The Ocean Race thread?

That's a rather pessimistic view Mad. Imagine if it was your own beloved father, who taught you sailing, would you not assist him with some active euthenasia? I am an optimist, and would hope that a great sponsor with lots of money, like 11th hour racing, would step in and buy the race from the broke Swedes, after Volvo pulls their financial support. Until then the race will be on life support, force feeding it smörgåsbord and drip feeding it stopovers.

Another childhood dream team, with a VO65, and a great name. https://www.theoceanrace.com/en/news/12344_Building-a-Team-for-a-Dream.html Not sure what Sisi means, but no doubt they will go along as Sissy. Good luck to them anyway!

    Lionheart Lost Cape Brett NZ?

Thanks for that Hawk, what a dramatic report that is! And how unfortunate that Pedersen didn't make it, or maybe rather how miraculous that three of them did make it. Very emotional really. Some important questions remain, but for now my sincere sympathy for a brave Pamela and the other two crew. And once again kudos for the quick and expertly rescue service, just amazing how the Orion dropped the liferaft so close by.

    Lionheart Lost Cape Brett NZ?

All those statements are probably mostly true, but still doesn't lead to inferring that one would be better than the other. Anyway, the question what lead to the situation is more important.

(Ref. BSE) Glad to see I'm not the only one who is getting more and more confused by it all! Altogether not a laughing matter, but could not help spilling my morning coffee when I read this: “We expect that petition to be lodged tomorrow and to be heard on Friday. We believe the government’s proposed withdrawal agreement is contrary to section 55 of the Taxation (Cross-border Trade) Act 2018." “We do not understand how the government might have come to negotiate a withdrawal agreement in terms that breach amendments tabled by its own European Research Group." https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/oct/16/brexit-legal-action-stop-boris-johnson-putting-withdrawal-agreement-before-mps

Tragic that there was a casualty, but well done by all the rescue services. Thank you all !

Thanks for the clarification, Krusty. I did pay attention until the English TMO ruled the high tackle by Reece Hodge on Peceli Yato OK, while Yato had to leave with a concussion, and Hodge got a 3 game ban after the game. And besides, half the Aussie tries were scored by Fijians anyway. It must have demoralized "my" team. And as for Chester Williams, I am sorry but didn't remember him. Now see that he played in the winning springbok team in the historic 1995 WRC, with Pienàar whom I do remember of course. Definitely respect for Williams as a black player in a white team, and the same for his friend Mandela for orchestrating it all. Over to AC Rugby now.

    Minitransat 2019

Jambou still extending and doing 6 kn, while most do hardly over 2 kn. Looks like it's not gone last though and that he will get becalmed before he gets to Las Palmas. Same for all the others, painful and very tiring.

    Transat Jacque Vabre 2019

He certainly is a character, always joking and making fun but meanwhile a fierce competitor who never gives up. At 60 years old he is still keen to stay relevant and do one more VG, and being such a sympathetic communicator, could in fact be a real asset for the right sponsor. Wouldn't be surprised if he then would want to do the TOR as well. After all he started off his career with Taberly (like so many) on Euromarche/Pen Duick VI in the 1981/82 Whitbread. For those who don't know him, this short video, even so it is in French, gives you a good idea of his sense of humor.

My 13 year old daughter was getting all excited and became an immediate Brick fan, but then I told her that was actually their prime minister.
