      Abbreviated rules   07/28/2017

Underdawg did an excellent job of explaining the rules.  Here's the simplified version: Don't insinuate Pedo.  Warning and or timeout for a first offense.  PermaFlick for any subsequent offenses Don't out members.  See above for penalties.  Caveat:  if you have ever used your own real name or personal information here on the forums since, like, ever - it doesn't count and you are fair game. If you see spam posts, report it to the mods.  We do not hang out in every thread 24/7 If you see any of the above, report it to the mods by hitting the Report button in the offending post.   We do not take action for foul language, off-subject content, or abusive behavior unless it escalates to persistent stalking.  There may be times that we might warn someone or flick someone for something particularly egregious.  There is no standard, we will know it when we see it.  If you continually report things that do not fall into rules #1 or 2 above, you may very well get a timeout yourself for annoying the Mods with repeated whining.  Use your best judgement. Warnings, timeouts, suspensions and flicks are arbitrary and capricious.  Deal with it.  Welcome to anarchy.   If you are a newbie, there are unwritten rules to adhere to.  They will be explained to you soon enough.

  4. VOR 2017-18

posted on facebook by Angelique Mulders‏ @LiekMulders 2m2 minutes ago @teamAkzoNobel naar boot. Onder leiding dus van schipper Tienpont. Klaar voor start #VOR on his way to the boat !
  5. VOR 2017-18

I recently read in one of the Dutch comments that actually AkzoNobel insisted on a new boat, and NOT Tienpont. Could be that Mark Turner pushed it to get boat #8, as you say.
  6. VOR 2017-18

Confucius on Dong Feng says : "To finish first, you first have to start".
  7. VOR 2017-18

Live report by https://www.facebook.com/pg/zeilhelden/videos/?ref=page_internal , sorry, in Dutch. They are slowly running out of time, Tienpont o/b doesnt know what's up either... It's becoming quite dramatic !
  8. VOR 2017-18

It's both, and too much sea-water. I thought you knew that.
  9. VOR 2017-18

Tom He-man was again the first to report this epic fight, proclaiming it surpasses any AC fight he's been in : Yep, a good old dock fight on board AsshoNotsonoble between exnew and newex skipper, new and ex crew, remaining and dismissed shore crew, Dutch supporters led by zeehelden.nl clubracer.be kicking with their klompen vs AkzoNobel with their paintballs Then BouweBrunel start throwing condoms full of piss and Vestas ram their boat straight into the crowd, DeeTTT tries to make peace but end up in the water and picks up all the condoms, klompen and Vestas' keel. Finally Mark Turner shows up and declares that he will stay on because this is so much fun.
  10. VOR 2017-18

Dunno, I usually get the shit when I come home from the Indian, but I know what you mean. Yes, a summing up of old news, and the "big twist" must be the names of the people with the elbows, that Bouwe was talking about earlier. And one or more of them must be Tom's mole in the team, and are probably pretty drunk by now from their last salary, if they got any. Could a Rule 69 be brought on the deserters ? Not very sportsmanlike really. Now waiting for the official announcements, so much schadenfreude !
  11. VOR 2017-18

A very lean A-team... still liking it, fuck the deserters !
  12. VOR 2017-18

And, we are waiting... nothing on Sailing Illustrated yet. And why would it be posted there first anyway ? They were quoting the NOS article about the arbitration outcome ! And big twist, my ass. Simeon is either on board or he is not. Or will AkzoNobel withdraw from the race, that I call a big twist. It's very late at night in Alicante now, and very early in Newport Beach. Or did you mean by "shortly" "before the race start" ???
  13. VOR 2017-18

Cunalinghy, Buck, Sailbyebye, Stalesail, and Dorothy too. Only Dorothy is not on my ignore list, she is such a good old girly natter !
  14. VOR 2017-18

I see you know all about it, amazing !
  15. VOR 2017-18

The verdict and agreement must have been that AkzoNobel will settle for an amount to be established in further hearings, and that until then both parties will keep a complete radio silence. Correct Dorothy ? That Simeon would not be coming back on the boat was obvious, and equally that AkzoNobel is the biggest loser of the two.

Wooden shoe, wooden head, wouldn't listen ...
  17. VOR 2017-18

Thanks, wanted to try Hola some time ago, but found warnings like this: http://adios-hola.org/ , and this more recent article just now confirms it: https://www.cloudwards.net/hola-vpn/ . Wouldn't touch it with a 100ft spinnaker pole ! I use Tunnelbear which has a good safety rating, but get only 500MB for free, not enough for a long video. I saved the Sayula link in my "watch later" playlist.
  18. VOR 2017-18

With very little new content on the VOR site, and awaiting the verdict of the Tienpont vs AkzoNobel arbitration, there may be time for a bit of Whitbread history. While browsing the zeehelden.com site I came across their youtube upload of the Flyer 2 film of the 1981/82 race. I've seen the film a long time ago, and watching it now on youtube is reminding me of how professional the racing already was in those days. And it certainly looks as exiting and competitive as the VOR now. Below is the 1st episode of 6, and the others come up subsequently. There is actually a lot more good Whitbread and Volvo stuff on youtube. Just a shame that the "Weekend Sailor" of Sayula is not available in my country.
  19. VOR 2017-18

ok, ok buck, it's allright ...
  20. VOR 2017-18

Somewhat conflicting news stories, but this one should be reliable. Also short video in dutch and some english in this link: https://nos.nl/artikel/2198593-zeilconflict-tienpont-akzonobel-naar-arbitrage-instituut.html Gtrans of the important bit: Simeon Tienpont will try to get his seat on board AkzoNobel via the Dutch Arbitration Institute (NAI). The case is Friday, two days before the start of the first stage of the Volvo Ocean Race. And yes, Jack Sparrow was right again, just a few minutes ago, he must have some experience in these matters: "In fact going the arbitration route indicates he may well think that come Sunday it is still possible to be on board as skipper."
  21. VOR 2017-18

http://www.nai-nl.org/en/info.asp?id=968 How long does NAI arbitration take? The average duration of NAI arbitration is nine months. The duration depends on the complexity of the dispute and particularly the methods of litigation used by the parties (and their attorneys). So, with a bit of luck Simeon will trow a party at the finish in Scheveningen/The Hague, or there may be a free paintball fest.

Google translate of update at Watersport TV. http://www.watersport-tv.nl/nw-31400-7-3671609/nieuws/simeon_tienpont_en_akzonobel__naar_nederlands_arbitrage_instituut.html?page=1 SIMEON TIENPONT AND AKZONOBEL TO THE NETHERLANDS ARBITRAGE INSTITUTE Breaking News: Published: 18-10-2017 Last modified: 18-10-2017 ROTTERDAM- Simeon Tienpont and his counselor submit the dispute with AkzoNobel to the Dutch Arbitration Institute. This has just been confirmed by AkzoNobel. Yesterday, Watersport TV had already reported that the sail soup might end up on a lawsuit / arbitration case. The lawyer of Tienpont had AkzoNobel set an ultimatum to respond to a number of requirements and conditions. AkzoNobel has entered into cooperation with STEAM, Simeon Tienpont's management office in good faith and we acted in good faith. We regret that STEAM took this step after committed itself to breach of contract. We trust in our approach. It is now a matter for the arbiter, "said AkzoNobel spokesman Peter van Boesschoten. At the request of Watersport TV at Tienpont and his counsel for an explanation has not yet been answered. My take on it: There probably was an arbitration clause in the contract. No idea how quickly they will work, and at this point that does not really matter anymore. The "good faith" does not sound very confident, but that may be a legal term. My guess is both parties will be found at fault and AkzoNoble will have to pay any outstanding debts plus a reasonable amount of damages. But dunno really, we'll see.
  23. Sailing around the world in a San Juan 24

I didn't see the chicken, so Rimas conserved energy for 139 days, and he is right on the spot now, in tip top condition. R u Jouleas ?
