      A Few Simple Rules   05/22/2017

Sailing Anarchy is a very lightly moderated site. This is by design, to afford a more free atmosphere for discussion. There are plenty of sailing forums you can go to where swearing isn't allowed, confrontation is squelched and, and you can have a moderator finger-wag at you for your attitude. SA tries to avoid that and allow for more adult behavior without moderators editing your posts and whacking knuckles with rulers. We don't have a long list of published "thou shalt nots" either, and this is by design. Too many absolute rules paints us into too many corners. So check the Terms of Service - there IS language there about certain types of behavior that is not permitted. We interpret that lightly and permit a lot of latitude, but we DO reserve the right to take action when something is too extreme to tolerate (too racist, graphic, violent, misogynistic, etc.). Yes, that is subjective, but it allows us discretion. Avoiding a laundry list of rules allows for freedom; don't abuse it. However there ARE a few basic rules that will earn you a suspension, and apparently a brief refresher is in order. 1) Allegations of pedophilia - there is no tolerance for this. So if you make allegations, jokes, innuendo or suggestions about child molestation, child pornography, abuse or inappropriate behavior with minors etc. about someone on this board you will get a time out. This is pretty much automatic; this behavior can have real world effect and is not acceptable. Obviously the subject is not banned when discussion of it is apropos, e.g. talking about an item in the news for instance. But allegations or references directed at or about another poster is verboten. 2) Outing people - providing real world identifiable information about users on the forums who prefer to remain anonymous. Yes, some of us post with our real names - not a problem to use them. However many do NOT, and if you find out someone's name keep it to yourself, first or last. This also goes for other identifying information too - employer information etc. You don't need too many pieces of data to figure out who someone really is these days. Depending on severity you might get anything from a scolding to a suspension - so don't do it. I know it can be confusing sometimes for newcomers, as SA has been around almost twenty years and there are some people that throw their real names around and their current Display Name may not match the name they have out in the public. But if in doubt, you don't want to accidentally out some one so use caution, even if it's a personal friend of yours in real life. 3) Posting While Suspended - If you've earned a timeout (these are fairly rare and hard to get), please observe the suspension. If you create a new account (a "Sock Puppet") and return to the forums to post with it before your suspension is up you WILL get more time added to your original suspension and lose your Socks. This behavior may result a permanent ban, since it shows you have zero respect for the few rules we have and the moderating team that is tasked with supporting them. Check the Terms of Service you agreed to; they apply to the individual agreeing, not the account you created, so don't try to Sea Lawyer us if you get caught. Just don't do it. Those are the three that will almost certainly get you into some trouble. IF YOU SEE SOMEONE DO ONE OF THESE THINGS, please do the following: Refrain from quoting the offending text, it makes the thread cleanup a pain in the rear Press the Report button; it is by far the best way to notify Admins as we will get e-mails. Calling out for Admins in the middle of threads, sending us PM's, etc. - there is no guarantee we will get those in a timely fashion. There are multiple Moderators in multiple time zones around the world, and anyone one of us can handle the Report and all of us will be notified about it. But if you PM one Mod directly and he's off line, the problem will get dealt with much more slowly. Other behaviors that you might want to think twice before doing include: Intentionally disrupting threads and discussions repeatedly. Off topic/content free trolling in threads to disrupt dialog Stalking users around the forums with the intent to disrupt content and discussion Repeated posting of overly graphic or scatological porn content. There are plenty web sites for you to get your freak on, don't do it here. And a brief note to Newbies... No, we will not ban people or censor them for dropping F-bombs on you, using foul language, etc. so please don't report it when one of our members gives you a greeting you may find shocking. We do our best not to censor content here and playing swearword police is not in our job descriptions. Sailing Anarchy is more like a bar than a classroom, so handle it like you would meeting someone a little coarse - don't look for the teacher. Thanks.

  1. Not a joke - more of a test..... "A good example of a Brain Study: If you can read this OUT LOUD you have a strong mind. 2. You don't HAVE to drink there. Plenty of pubs around. Should the length of the regatta & number of races revolve around drinking time?
  3. Do you often think of Slipper? In view of his penchant for blokes. Only when reading your twaddle. Mex I didn't know you were gay. Not that there is anything wrong with that. But to have a crush on Peter Slipper is a bit weird.
  4. Funny, 'cause I read your twaddle and think of Peter Slipper. Mex Do you often think of Slipper? In view of his penchant for blokes.
  5. I have exchanged a few emails with XXXX. It appears that while he was in the toilet (at SYC) someone got into his computer, logged on to SA as Flatbag, posted in the Clipper Cup thread a PM that XXXX had prepared for me (but not sent,) then deleted the post a few seconds (maybe 30) later, then logged out of SA and went to his Outlook email file. Shades of Craig Thompson.
  6. Did you think maybe he was just using flatbags computer and didn't realize, I've done this a few time on boat computers and nearly posted under someone else s name. No everything is a conspiracy. He simply forgot who he had signed in as.
  7. A funny thing happened on another thread about half an hour ago. A bloke who I had considered a mate posted on the thread some info for me. It didn't stay there long, disappeared in seconds, but was there long enough for me to read. Ihe post was from Flatbag. The sender did not realise he was still signed in as Flatbag, so was writing as this so called mate. I won't out him here, but you WILL learn who Flatbag is sockpuppet for. It was a shock to me.
  8. Mother in law.....almost everybody has one. A mother in law said to her son's wife when their baby was born: "I don't mean to be rude but he doesn't look anything like my son?. The daughter in law lifted her skirt and said "I don't mean to be rude either... but this is a pussy....not a fucking photo-copier."
  9. So does your mamma !! I've heard she is that good she could suck start a 707.
  10. You are such a pompous cunt Simon. The WP turn a blind eye to it because amongst the Victorian WP there is UNcommon sense. Great while it lasts. There is NO WAY you would be able to do that in QLD. I know that FIRST HAND you fuckwit.
  11. JS, Flares are always explosives. At this point explosives are covered by state and Territory Dangerous Goods legislation, so it will probably be different from place to place until nationally consistent legislation is introduced. Certainly in the NT a distress signmal does not cease to be a distress signal when it's use-by date expires, so the exemptions for possessing them do not cease. I know it's a crazy sitiation. An in date flare is legal. Try & carry it on a plane & see what happens - then it's an explosive. An out of date flare is classed as an explosive, and unless you have a licence to handle explosives - well - take your chances with the law. Shipboard Saftey courses and the like are not allowed to use out of date flares. Simply because they are considered explosives. I don't know if there is a law that says "Thou shalt not use out of date flares" But there are laws about posessing explosives. Think fireworks. FFS Peoples, ORCV has approval for their once a year flare shoot day immediately before the start of the first race of their winter series. It has been going on for many, many years now. Try and persuade a PBO that you are going to let off his still in date flares as opposed to using his recently expired ones and let me know his response. It isn't done to flout the law; it is done so people actually learn how to fire flares on the deck of a boat at sea. Doing that has probably saved lives. You can get as pedantic as you like about the niceties of the law on here but it won't change the fact that many, if not most of the flares used on the day will be recently out of date ones. Maybe you should notify the Water Police so they can come out and book us all? Fucking pedantic wankers, the lot of you! The law is the law you fucking moron. Flaunt it at your own risk!
  12. About 7-8 years aga, before the Dent to Dunk, we had a day where people could see flares, fire extinguishers etc in use. Gave the boat owners a way to get rid of out of date flares. Did it officially thru MSQ. They had to be there along with police, fire brigade, ambulance etc. Went well & was educational for all incl authorities. By the next year we weren't allowed to use out of date flares because we "were breaking the law by having them" (in QLD). It all got too hard so it never happened again. Everyone's loss.

  14. When a flare is expired it is no longer a flare. It is an explosive! Are you allowed to posess explosives without a licence?
