to be fair, oats beat them both out of the harbour and only got overtaken once the reef was taken out and everyone had their big sails up. (if i recall correctly)

Wind Limits - Where are they

i think that ETNZ should set a wind limit as early as possible and then if they find out that the wind limits are too high for the boats, they consult the challengers and change it accordingly. i don't agree with how oracle changed the wind limits completely. i don't think that the decision was too awful to reduce the upper wind limit, after a guy dies i think something publicly has to be done to show the audience that they are taking steps to make sure it doesn't happen again. was it the best decision? i'm not sure, maybe they could have changed the class rule some more to ensure safer boats? i think it was a bit suspect that the change in the wind limits helped them significantly. it was clear that their boat was less suited for the extremes of the wind limits compared to ETNZ's. do i think it was purely to save their asses come the match? no, i think it was a bit of a knee jerk reaction after they say how hard the boats were to control on the foils in really strong winds, and how unsafe they were so they made a rule change to make it clear to the layman that they were improving the safety of the racing for the sailors. The advantage to them was a byproduct of which they reaped the benefits.

Wind Limits - Where are they

I think they changed the wind limits because it was clear that no boat could handle a capsize without being nearly written off, and a dude DIED. i don't agree on that lighter stuff, pretty dog by oracle, but you can't seriously think that they should have raced in 30 knots

Wind Limits - Where are they

do we know he is telling the truth? not that he's a mad liar but he wouldn't give anythin away regardless, i would be surprised if ETNZ put out crazy wind limits but they should be well out by now seeing as the first boats are launched and designs for the second boats are well under development it would be a farce if they released the wind limits too late for challengers to design around

    sandbagging

last cup it was pretty clear after the ac50's had been launched that at least ETNZ had not shown their full package at all in their ac45's seeing as these are the equivalent to the 45's from the last cup, could you guys imagine that anyone is holding huge game-breakers back from their boats while there is still time to make changes to major parts of their race boats? or do teams know less about this class than they did about the ac50 and are putting all their ideas into boat one

yeah man, the unicycle had so much thaught put into it, truly inspirational crazy to think that years of development into the "mountain bike" was wasted when they scrapped it for a few extra kg's

    sandbagging

to hide a big advantage form the other teams until the other teams go in a different direction and invest into boat 2

    sandbagging

i'd tend to disagree with you for all purposes, the team's alst ac45's were essentially what these boat ones are for the ACWS racing doesn't count for anything really we saw that ETNZ held back their bikes from the ac45 and i'd be willing to bet that it was to hide the idea so no other team could copy them and i would also be willing to bet that teams would of copied them had they of put the bikes on the 45
  18. what are you talking about how about "jimmy what does it feel like being beaten in the one area of your sailing you thaught you were the best in, the starts" "jimmy, did it feel like a teacher peering over your shoulder with a ruler when slingers was on the dumb fuck unicycle behind you" "jimmy, did you paint the wheel camo so larry couldn't see that you were steering" "jimmy, why the fuck did you hike on a 50 ft foiling cat" "anyone, why the fuck is stingray such a tard as to think peter burling was scared of jimmy spithill"

    Boats and foils comparison

yeah, sailing along with the heel wouldn't me too fast i'd never imagine that manta will be fast lowriding maybe it would work getting some speed flat, then getting the rake on the foil and getting the leeward chine out, then levering the boat up from there? they know more than me though i just don't think the flat bottom will be too much of a letdown, and the aero on that thing looks slick as

    Boats and foils comparison

correct me if i am wrong but wouldn't the hard edges on the manta mean that it could just get a bit of heel and the stickyness of the flat bottom will be negated? apart from the occasional liftoff that these boats will be having (i believe the winner will be doing dry laps by the end of this all), the flat bottom isn't a disadvantage at all
