VOR Leg 9 Newport to Cardiff

The Volvo 65s only have six bunks, so the crew members are hot bunking?

VOR AUCTION - OPPORTUNITIES LOST & STILL THERE?

^^^The NYT articles were the only coverage in the mainstream press in the US of the last VG; similarly for this edition of the VOR: a handful of NYT articles, generally when there was a tragic event.

VOR AUCTION - OPPORTUNITIES LOST & STILL THERE?

Remember, the VG data you are talking about is likely mostly Europeans. The VG gets virtually no media coverage in the US, aside from the occasional mention if there is a seriously damaged boat and the skipper is at risk of life and limb. I don't know what the VG coverage is in the rest of the world. If you already know and are interested in the VOR there is actually now a fair amount of information produced with the Tracker, Raw Content (which is fantastic), interviews etc. posted on You Tube and Facebook (somewhat of a dying media platform in the US I think), albeit very few articles posted by VOR, not like with Jenny; no T V shows due to Inmarsat sucking all the bandwidth for them like last year though I don't know what the viewership was, I do know it was next to impossible to find them and you had to have the top of the line cable package to do so, maybe streaming but, he Quick Fix and the Daily Shows are okay. The Teams, and the VOR, have a web site, Twitter, Facebook pages, an APP, it's really a bit overwhelming and confusing, but take your pick or poison. Not all are kept up to date either. It is attracting new and, and sponsors, that is a problem, IMO. I thought Sailing Illustrated/Tuesdays with TFE was going to have an interview with Richard Bresius at VOR and someone else about the future of the VOR; TFE made is sound like it was going to be some hot inside scoop, but I didn't get a notice yesterday of the program like I usually do and couldn't find it online last night.

Well, I have zero years and if I started now and esp at the rate I have been crashing and burning (bike, ski, other accidents, thus accumulating screws, pins, metal plates, etc.) I'd be long dead before I got Sail's number.

NorBow said in the thread for the prior leg that she looked forward to the Live Tracker as she was going to be on medical leave in the near future, possible sight limitations, etc. Glad you came through it, NBG.

VOR Leg 9 Newport to Cardiff

A couple of hours ago I celebrated the end of the Washington (DC) Capitals' National Hockey League team's two decades long draught from getting to the Stanley Cup playoffs, the most jinx-laden sporting event I share with some of my family members who live respectively in different parts of the US and in a remote village in Madagascar. We have not been texting or otherwise communicating throughout - or even between- the games, as I explained previously upthread, because of the jinx issue, except for very careful chosen cryptic words. But at least we can actually watch real live players skating on the ice, as opposed to the Live Tracker. The team cap, t-shirt, etc I own remain buried in my back yard. My brother and his wife and their grown children (who are not living at home) wear the team t-shirts and jerseys ("sweaters") while watching the games; however when together they all don't watch the game in the same room as some are too intense. I've been at their home for division playoff games in past years, and it's pretty weird. Growing up watching football, everyone yelled. However, with this group, just before one game started, there was a power outage. Without missing a beat, my brother called a family friend who lives about 10 blocks away to see if they had power, and if they did could we (there were 6 of us plus a dog) come over and watch the game on their TV set? They did and we did. They were eating dinner. No one spoke. Their friends made us popcorn. At the end of the period we learned the power at my brother's house went back on, so we drove back home. The Caps lost, the TV was immediately turned off and everyone went to bed. No one spoke. Tonight, the multi-multi-multi-cell phone conference call amidst four US states from one remote country on the other side of the world, with one another, was hilarious. Lots of shouting. But we were at the same time very careful what we said, because we are all wary of the jinx. And there are potentially 7 more games.

Love the Live-all-the-time tracker, despite the impact on the rest of my life. Explaining to people that I am following a real sailboat race by watching a software program that doesn't really move and the boats doesn't look much like sailboats except in 3D, is another thing...

Charles and Pascal look and sound considerably happier than they were about 18 hours ago....They as well as Bouwe and Xabi acknowledge there are still changes in the future, the complicity of the situation, and that there is still a long way to go.

Ok, it was blurred vision from semi-somulence. It was 9.2 nm, not .2, now it is 9.1. Same shock, though.

^^^Herman, I am gobsmacked. This is nuts! See my comments in my above post. And thanks for the charts.

I was unsuccessful in my attempt to sleep. Was interrupted by a text from afar which prompted me to check the tracker and saw that DF, who I am not rooting for because of the j**x issue, is only .2 behind Brunel! with Mapre 41.2 behind. Is that an error? A hallucination?
