An interesting note here is that Homer had to use a bit of artistic license in this painting , the mainsheet wouldn't be have been able to pass freely over the traveler bar, because the tiller's over it. I have put placed the tiller over the traveler and gone sailing (on my laser) an embarrassing number of times... swearing always follows on tacking and discovering the mistake!

Howard Pyle's books have always been some of my favorites. I also love N.C Wyeth's illustration's and the books that he illustrated. Wyeth really knew how to put life into his paintings.

  19. Details would be welcome, wind speed, type of boat, ect. Probably the fastest I have ever been on a dinghy was on a Fireball in 9 to 25 kts. Unfortunately I didn't have a GPS.

    Cool Gift

I hope you guys don't greet this post with " go buy an add," but, I thought I would share that as well as being a sailor I'm also a artist! I having been drawing and painting for my whole life and it's probably my favorite thing to do beside sailing. I have had a little success in selling some of my art, from the precedes of which I fund my boat projects. As you can see in the gallery, my favorite subject for painting is sailboats! I especially love painting dinghys, though I don't paint them very often because they don't sell as well as the "leadmines". my artwork is here https://fineart.castellcreative.com/gallery/maritime

    Fireballs

I have just been offered a wooden Fireball which I will see this weekend. I have long admired Fireballs, but have never got to sail one in person. Out of curiosity, what is its highest and average speed? What is a good crew weight for it? Are there any fleets or regattas near my area? Sadly there used to be a pretty active fleet at our club before I went there, and it hosted the 2013 and 2015 North Americans, but most of the old Fireball sailors have moved to racing Hobie cats and Mysteres. I am really looking forward to sailing that fabulous boat! Also any general tips or advice on the boat would be appreciated
