      Abbreviated rules   07/28/2017

Underdawg did an excellent job of explaining the rules.  Here's the simplified version: Don't insinuate Pedo.  Warning and or timeout for a first offense.  PermaFlick for any subsequent offenses Don't out members.  See above for penalties.  Caveat:  if you have ever used your own real name or personal information here on the forums since, like, ever - it doesn't count and you are fair game. If you see spam posts, report it to the mods.  We do not hang out in every thread 24/7 If you see any of the above, report it to the mods by hitting the Report button in the offending post.   We do not take action for foul language, off-subject content, or abusive behavior unless it escalates to persistent stalking.  There may be times that we might warn someone or flick someone for something particularly egregious.  There is no standard, we will know it when we see it.  If you continually report things that do not fall into rules #1 or 2 above, you may very well get a timeout yourself for annoying the Mods with repeated whining.  Use your best judgement. Warnings, timeouts, suspensions and flicks are arbitrary and capricious.  Deal with it.  Welcome to anarchy.   If you are a newbie, there are unwritten rules to adhere to.  They will be explained to you soon enough.

  1. Eggshell rant

I have a backyard flock of layers. They get "Layer Pellets" which has higher calcium , and I supplement with Calcium Carbonate in the form of ground oyster shell. We break the eggs with a hammer.
  2. "Viet Nam" documentary by Ken Burns

A prime example of a tragic "non-combat" death. My good friend Ralph was the on duty one night when a couple of idiots decided to sneak over to the nearby "vil" to find a prostitute. Our ammo dump was surrounded by a minefield of anti-personnel mines i.e. "bouncing Betty mines" . They met their inevitable fate. My friend Ralph was charged with the task of retrieving their moaning remains from the minefield. In spite of their best efforts, the rescue team also detonated a mine. He died the next morning at eh First Med in DaNang. His death is listed as "non-combat" and he's on "The Wall" with the other 58,000. It's still death. Final. Over. R.I.P Ralph.

  4. The Underlying Problem in America

Agreed. All valid points. Funding from lobbyists has made puppets of our legislators. But why do legislators need bundles of cash? The campaign "war chest"? In a never-gonna-happen scenario all election campaigns would be conducted without outside funding. NO advertising, No TV ads. NO billboards. NO robo-calls. Publicly funded debates Position papers and policy statements published in news media funded by the media, not the candidates......Never gonna happen. We're doomed.

  6. Afghanistan Policy

"When you're wounded and dying on Afganistan's plains And the women come out to cut up what remains You roll to your rifle and blow out your brains And go to your God like a soldier" - R. Kipling
  7. Genius

Well done and without a great deal of twisting of facts to make a captivating tale. BTW, J. Edgar Hoover was an A-Hole of the first order.

  9. Spicer shares his boss's affliction. He has no filter for his internal monologue. Whatever pops into his noggin, comes out immediately. And this guy is the "spokesperson" for the United States of America. God help us.
  10. 1. The climate is changing. Simply check the historical records for your location over the last 100 years ( a mere millisecond in geological time scale). 2. Natural events as well as human impact are the causes. 3. Human population on the planet rises exponentially and is approaching a "tipping point" which may become unsustainable. ( re: Thomas Malthus) 4. We humans, all of us, like to be warm in winter, have nice stuff, travel freely in trains, planes, and automobiles, all of which demands fossil fuels using current technology. 5. It's hopeless 6. The planet (and we) are f****ed .
  11. If our nation survives for another hundred years, the angst of our slave-holding past may be tempered by the rise of bi-racial marriages. Just a casual observation, but I've noticed an increase in the number of caramel (very beautiful) hybrid children walking about. We may eventually become a homogeneous society reaping the dual benefits of clean consciences and hybrid vigor.
  12. From fara.gov: "The Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) was enacted in 1938. FARA is a disclosure statute that requires persons acting as agents of foreign principals in a political or quasi-political capacity to make periodic public disclosure of their relationship with the foreign principal, as well as activities, receipts and disbursements in support of those activities. Disclosure of the required information facilitates evaluation by the government and the American people of the statements and activities of such persons in light of their function as foreign agents. The FARA Registration Unit of the Counterintelligence and Export Control Section (CES) in the National Security Division (NSD) is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the Act."
  13. JBSF, Your observations are pretty much "spot on". Our only saving grace which may prevent the collapse of our government, society, and civilization as we know it, is the the bureaucracy which grinds out the day-to-day workings of government. Our government is giant juggernaut, staffed by millions of minions, many of whom are hard-working, thoughtful, patriotic citizens. A few knuckle-draggers will not shut down the system, even those who are in charge. Aircraft will land on the proper runways, the social security checks will be mailed, tax refunds will be deposited, criminals will be prosecuted, fires will be put out, friendly foreign governments will not shut down their embassies, and drones will continue to kill an occasional extremist in the desert. Then again, I could be wrong.
  14. Hunting with Semi auto firearms

My Dad raised me to hunt. His weapon was a single-barreled 12 Gauge. "If it takes more than one round to kill your prey, you don't belong in the woods." He carried an extra shell in his pocket to finish it off. I still use that shotgun.
  15. Sled Driver - Blackbird Stories

As a young Marine I saw one of these on the runway of Kadena AFB in 1969. WTF !! was all I could think.
