      A Few Simple Rules   05/22/2017

      Sailing Anarchy is a very lightly moderated site. This is by design, to afford a more free atmosphere for discussion. There are plenty of sailing forums you can go to where swearing isn't allowed, confrontation is squelched and, and you can have a moderator finger-wag at you for your attitude. SA tries to avoid that and allow for more adult behavior without moderators editing your posts and whacking knuckles with rulers. We don't have a long list of published "thou shalt nots" either, and this is by design. Too many absolute rules paints us into too many corners. So check the Terms of Service - there IS language there about certain types of behavior that is not permitted. We interpret that lightly and permit a lot of latitude, but we DO reserve the right to take action when something is too extreme to tolerate (too racist, graphic, violent, misogynistic, etc.). Yes, that is subjective, but it allows us discretion. Avoiding a laundry list of rules allows for freedom; don't abuse it. However there ARE a few basic rules that will earn you a suspension, and apparently a brief refresher is in order. 1) Allegations of pedophilia - there is no tolerance for this. So if you make allegations, jokes, innuendo or suggestions about child molestation, child pornography, abuse or inappropriate behavior with minors etc. about someone on this board you will get a time out. This is pretty much automatic; this behavior can have real world effect and is not acceptable. Obviously the subject is not banned when discussion of it is apropos, e.g. talking about an item in the news for instance. But allegations or references directed at or about another poster is verboten. 2) Outing people - providing real world identifiable information about users on the forums who prefer to remain anonymous. Yes, some of us post with our real names - not a problem to use them. However many do NOT, and if you find out someone's name keep it to yourself, first or last. This also goes for other identifying information too - employer information etc. You don't need too many pieces of data to figure out who someone really is these days. Depending on severity you might get anything from a scolding to a suspension - so don't do it. I know it can be confusing sometimes for newcomers, as SA has been around almost twenty years and there are some people that throw their real names around and their current Display Name may not match the name they have out in the public. But if in doubt, you don't want to accidentally out some one so use caution, even if it's a personal friend of yours in real life. 3) Posting While Suspended - If you've earned a timeout (these are fairly rare and hard to get), please observe the suspension. If you create a new account (a "Sock Puppet") and return to the forums to post with it before your suspension is up you WILL get more time added to your original suspension and lose your Socks. This behavior may result a permanent ban, since it shows you have zero respect for the few rules we have and the moderating team that is tasked with supporting them. Check the Terms of Service you agreed to; they apply to the individual agreeing, not the account you created, so don't try to Sea Lawyer us if you get caught. Just don't do it. Those are the three that will almost certainly get you into some trouble. IF YOU SEE SOMEONE DO ONE OF THESE THINGS, please do the following: Refrain from quoting the offending text, it makes the thread cleanup a pain in the rear Press the Report button; it is by far the best way to notify Admins as we will get e-mails. Calling out for Admins in the middle of threads, sending us PM's, etc. - there is no guarantee we will get those in a timely fashion. There are multiple Moderators in multiple time zones around the world, and anyone one of us can handle the Report and all of us will be notified about it. But if you PM one Mod directly and he's off line, the problem will get dealt with much more slowly. Other behaviors that you might want to think twice before doing include: Intentionally disrupting threads and discussions repeatedly. Off topic/content free trolling in threads to disrupt dialog Stalking users around the forums with the intent to disrupt content and discussion Repeated posting of overly graphic or scatological porn content. There are plenty web sites for you to get your freak on, don't do it here. And a brief note to Newbies... No, we will not ban people or censor them for dropping F-bombs on you, using foul language, etc. so please don't report it when one of our members gives you a greeting you may find shocking. We do our best not to censor content here and playing swearword police is not in our job descriptions. Sailing Anarchy is more like a bar than a classroom, so handle it like you would meeting someone a little coarse - don't look for the teacher. Thanks.

      Moderation Team Change   06/16/2017

      After fifteen years of volunteer moderation at SA, I will no longer be part of the moderation team. The decision to step aside is mine, and has been some time in the works but we did not wish to announce it in advance for a number of reasons. It's been fun, but I need my time back for other purposes now. The Underdawg admin account will not be monitored until further notice, as I will be relinquishing control of it along with my administrative privileges. Zapata will continue on as a moderator, and any concerns or issues can be directed to that account or to the Editor until further notice. Anyone interested in helping moderate the forums should reach out to Scot by sending a PM to the Editor account. Please note that I am not leaving the community, I am merely stepping aside from Admin responsibilities and privileges on the site.

  2. I have no true idea if there were bad boats or not. But I heard it was the 200 series. Granted I have No idea. I have seen a high 200 boat do well. So it may just be a myth...

  4. Yes. Granted, you might need to check the interior hull lining for cracks and fix them. But I don't see to many big issues in speed. When I do, its more of us doing stupid stuff, than the boat. Sails. Be ready to get Lots of sails.... That's the arms race and speed difference. USA #9 Still rocking it......
  5. I had a repair on the rudder cable of an old ims pig once. I kept having to crawl out of the hatch to check tension as no one else was worth a shit and helping. I hit my head on the centered boom like 5 times... Dobbs Davis looks at me and says. "Its been there all week." It still pisses me off...
  6. I like phrf. Its not perfect by any means... You have the benchmark boats. You have some oddballs. Which over a few years get worked out... I had a merit 25. Was boat for boat with a J24 or I owed him 3. cant rem. But in light to 13 I crushed him. In over 13 he crushed me... It is what it is.. My Sov 30 kills j30-s in light air (most boats actually). I get beat by them in heavy... go figure. horses for courses. I have a well prepped boat all new shit. always practicing with the same crew etc... I ended up getting knocked 15 over a 4 year span. Granted we were doing very well. We needed a few hits. but... at 123.(from 138) There is No way I can sail to that rating. The boat has a full set of new carbon sails , unused... Boat is on a trailer. Ill bring it out again sometime... but I think the rating has my boat sidelined until I'm just stupid motivated... phrf rates the team and not the just boat...That's what I don't like... when the same team wins in phrf in 4-5 diff boats... its obviously not the boat...
  7. Speaking of those lift points. Mine have a large backing plate under them. Is that factory? Or have mine ben beefed up? Makes me want to check those as my boat is in the air alot....
  8. I'm dumping more than my salary and life into M24 hull #9. Its sucks, its pathetic I know... But I need Delrins... Tops Bottoms. Both... Your old ones , I can with out a doubt, promise, are better than mine.... I'm doing everything I can to get this boat to Nats this year. This boat has had tornados throw it 100+ yards, had 2 m32's land on top of it. Not to mention the 3 hoist fails. I've done every thing I can to get this boat sailing.... I now want to see what it can do against the new boats.... On a slip. When I bought it, I figured a phrf boat. But.... I'm no chump. 90% of you know me from my rl name and handle... You know me, I'm poor, better than average sailor. and that I'm working my dick off to get to this regatta.... Delrins are the 2nd most important thing to my program. and Its so far out of My budget..... I'm begging.... Tell me to fuck off. whatever.......... I need old dead delrins.... Old, dead, cracked, fucked off , delrins...... I will make it work!!!.... Thanks you for your consideration, to, not include me into the dickhead hall of fame. I still need your old delrins....

  10. So over the years my keel has been cracked(trailing edge), had the bulb halfway fall off. You get the idea, its been abused. Well I have always had a reoccurring crack about 3 inches in from the trailing edge, near the bottom of the fin. I decided I would grind it down really well and re carbon it. All went well, So I thought. Its now oozing water out of my repair. as with a few other spots I decided to grind down and fix. Its a very slow drip. So I cut open an old dead spare keel, I just had to see what was inside of it. It appears to be expansion foam as a core... Well that has me worried the foam inside my good keel is waterlogged... I've done several deck recores, so I know what's involved. But If I cut a large slab of carbon out of the side, to recore it how weak with that make the keel? There has got to be a less intrusive way to do this. I know most of you will say, buy a new fin. But I don't have 7-8k for a new fin....I just don't and wont... So I will choose to rebuild it in my redneck manor... Or should I just leave it alone and reglass it so the water stays inside. Thanks for any imput.
  11. T. All love bro. But...... Why did you get a new boat last year? Its not like you were slow with your old one, or that it was falling apart or anything. These things are not exactly lasers that turn to shit after 6 months of sailing. Ok crew and driving issues. I can relate to that. I'm just trying to justify my skill lag. know I cant sail worth a crap.
  12. Im still waiting to see if anyone has done a keel swap. Other than #2. But here is a question. What makes a Melges get slow??? Can it be weight? softness? keel flex? What? That's what I would truly like to know.... Ideas?

  14. Well. I bought #9 for under 10k. Its still alive and kicking. Stress cracks are no biggy to me. If its made of glass and foam, it can be fixed with sweat and beer. And yes its underweight. That means I can beef stuff up. yay... Heavy scares me more than a light boat.
  15. So our team broke a couple in the last few weeks, and being the cheapos we are, we were wondering where old ones end up? No one seems to know. Any ideas?
