I am a skeptic of this concept, but fuck me if this isn't going to be interesting. These boats remind me (even in a scaled down version) of watching the 72s sails - they have the 'wow' factor that the 50s could never quite generate.

    SailGP - Sydney Inaugural Regatta

I think the series could really differentiate itself from the ESS and other series by focusing more on short, 15 minute match racing. Personally I found the fleet racing over the weekend pretty "meh" and would like to see something along the lines of a fleet race on Friday to seed two pools with two rounds of match racing that day (each team races their pool mates twice). The pool winners would then become the top seeds for the semis on Saturday vs the pool runners-up in a best of 3 series, with the final, 3rd place and losers bracket series also best of 3. Might be too much content for the broadcast but would be a hell of a lot more interesting than watching Slingsby sail away from the fleet.

Pretty underwhelming so far. Here's hoping the match race is more interesting and convinces the organizers to re-jig the format and make it a round robin match race event with a semi/final series rather than the snoozefest fleet races

I don't really follow your argument, but I think something is being lost in translation as that clause is to ensure that a hostile COR doesn't prevail and de-rail the competition. The mutual consent part of modern AC is a tenuous and delicate dance between two (theoretically) competing factions, but one in which the parties share the same overall vision for the way the event should be run. Remove that and the entire event would be thrown into jeopardy. Remember, there can only be one challenger at any given time under the Deed so the COR actually holds a fair amount of power with the threat of a DOG race always present if a mutual consent event can't be agreed upon - the legal battle that would follow if a new COR decided to renege on the agreed protocol (notwithstanding Section 51) and go rogue would be incredibly messy to say the least, but someone with deep enough pockets could absorb that pain if they were motivated enough to screw up the event (see Larry circa 2009-2010). I'm not a fan of a lot that ETNZ has done - that fucking boat - but this seems pretty inoffensive and given recent cup history makes a lot of sense to protect the viability of the event and assure sponsors and challengers that they won't be sinking a bucket load of cash into something that may end up stalled in the NY courts because someone wants to impose an alternative vision.

    Race Replays

Interesting. I wanted to see what happened if a race from the final was uploaded to Youtube and it instantly triggered a copyright block by 'americascup' as soon as the processing was complete.

The Falcons arguably relieved them of that tag last February. 28-3 will forever be difficult to top

Ok, you go tell the families of the attack victims that joking about a car mowing down people is funny and they should quit being precious about their loved ones.

Lone wolf - have you read it.

I didn't even finish it. I'll admit I didn't have high hopes going into it giving Jimmy's love of cliches, but I made it as far as the Dogzilla challenge before I just gave up. Can't really see myself picking it back up.

    AC36 Auckland NZ

Uhhh, wtf? The majority of the flags were on public property, but you are right in the fact that OR (yes the team, not ACEA) employed personnel did remove flags from private property against the wishes of the property owners. How do I know? Because two friends who decided to support ETNZ threatened to bring a trespass and willful damage suit against Oracle if the flags weren't restored to their original spots. They were returned the next day.

Lol, because Land/Range Rover's are only sold in Europe. Better call the local dealership and tell them to shut things down

That's about the limit of my Auckland real estate knowledge from 9,000 miles away I'm sure one of the locals will have a better idea as to whether there's any suitable spots outside of the city
