I sent them an e-mail as they seemed to have stopped making mid and base layers as none are available on their web site any more.  No reply I tried to buy some over the holidays but everything was sold out. Hope this isn't the death of a great brand...

Probably are just in the process of rebranding Helly base layers with Musto. Give them a bit of time.

    Too bad.

I think Fareast will come up with something in that size range but much less expensive in the next 2-3 years. They already have the 31’ in ‘ glass or carbon fiber and looking to do a 37’ and a 40’+.

Except, no one bought the 31.

Talk about a sacrificial bow... Everyone keeps saying the loads on these boats are unknown, but with this damage, it seems like this should be more of a known than say cross beams, or points for the foils. Not that I know anything about engineering, just arm chair thoughts.

Will Musto Warranty it?  Gill and Patagonia have replaced jackets of mine due to lack of waterproofness.

Getting a whole lot harder to get warranty from Musto. They now are require the garments to be sent to Gore for testing of the material.  Basically, they don't think its a problem of theirs.  They changed out all the zippers over the years because the waterproof ones sucked balls. But, they also don't see that being their problem.

Bernard Stamm might disagree with you.

Agreed, but that is why I said usually. There is always going to be cases of structural failure. Pushing the limits and all. It just seems like every time these multis go out, the chances are more so than anything else.

I dont have any reference point for comparison. I didn't start sailing until I was in my late 20s. but I will say that non-collegiate regatta participation is about half of what it was when I got started. I think outdoor activities as a whole are down over the last 3 decades.

It is also sad that a school like St. Mary's no longer has an offshore program to send kids to Larchmont and Kennedy Cup.

I was reviewing some video last night of our summer escapades. Came across this nice little screen shot.... seems to be a theme with us not mastering the heavy weather gybes!!!

That's a good one, post the video.

I will start by saying that I am not a multihull guy. But looking at the video of Macif on front page, if you want to foil, just go play multihulls. Monohulls just look awkward trying to copy them. Foils work with the multi platform structure, they don’t with a mono structure.

i will stick my neck out and say that using foils for RM and reaping the benefits of reduced weight/WSA is the natural limit of benefits for a mono.

They only look awkward right now because they are not allowed to use T Rudders. Once this is changed, they will fly as smooth as Macif most likely.

  9. For me, it doesn't even have to be Red Bull per se. Just a cool sponsor looking to advance themselves and sailing like puma did with their designs.  The volvo look is so boring compared to the Vendee boats.

I hit 68mph towing the J30 to Key West many years ago.

got locked into a wave set for several minutes doing Annap to St Mikes 2012? 2013? wind was 25-30 outa nw, kept the old J35 doin 14kts  or so for about 5 minutes before the wheels fell off the bus LOL

14.8 on a 35 in the same race before the kite exploded. Was a great race.
