      Abbreviated rules   07/28/2017

Underdawg did an excellent job of explaining the rules.  Here's the simplified version: Don't insinuate Pedo.  Warning and or timeout for a first offense.  PermaFlick for any subsequent offenses Don't out members.  See above for penalties.  Caveat:  if you have ever used your own real name or personal information here on the forums since, like, ever - it doesn't count and you are fair game. If you see spam posts, report it to the mods.  We do not hang out in every thread 24/7 If you see any of the above, report it to the mods by hitting the Report button in the offending post.   We do not take action for foul language, off-subject content, or abusive behavior unless it escalates to persistent stalking.  There may be times that we might warn someone or flick someone for something particularly egregious.  There is no standard, we will know it when we see it.  If you continually report things that do not fall into rules #1 or 2 above, you may very well get a timeout yourself for annoying the Mods with repeated whining.  Use your best judgement. Warnings, timeouts, suspensions and flicks are arbitrary and capricious.  Deal with it.  Welcome to anarchy.   If you are a newbie, there are unwritten rules to adhere to.  They will be explained to you soon enough.

  1. Wait until you're hit by the wake from the whale watching boats zooming past the dock next to the ferry at Orcas. They don't even pretend to slow down.
  2. Mocking Ads on Craigslist

    What's that frog staring at?
  3. what are your cruising plans for 2017?

Just returned from 3 weeks in the San Juans, Gulf Islands, Vancouver and the Sunshine Coast. Our plan was to play all the disc golf courses in the islands. I think we made it to 9 of them and in talking to other players we learned there's even more scattered around. We also went to the Saturna Lamb BBQ in Winter Cove on July 1st. A great time before heading to Ganges for the Canada Day fireworks. I also highly recommend the 4th of July fireworks in Fishermen's Bay on Lopez, the best I've seen bar none.
  4. Charter in Grenada

Cleared in to Tyrell and it was easy. Just show the proper respect to the customs officer. The fellow in front of me was impatient and disrespectful, you can guess how his experience was.
  5. Charter in Grenada

I chartered from True Blue in Grenada in February 2016. Luckily the wind went south of east for our entire trip north to Bequia so we didn't need to tack once. When we left Bequia heading back to Grenada the wind was north of east and we slid downwind all the way. The only time we spent going to weather was rounding the south end of Grenada heading back to the charter base. Life is good, enjoy.

I'm sure Kim will have many nice things to say about Mr. Neilsen. I believe he was the designer of Tioga, a former member of Kim's fleet.
  7. The app won't let me log on even after changing password per their instructions. To quote our fearless leader... SAD. We can only hope we end up with a new defender.
  8. Something different for CA

A long time ago, a co-worker was chuckling about an article boosting Ducks Unlimited for their conservation efforts, because, of course, the reason they want a lot of ducks is to be able to out and hunt them. In my yacht club, it was the fishermen who worked with the state on Long Island Sound ecological issues. It is a bit of a paradox, but I see nothing wrong with wanting to ensure a supply of critters so you can harvest them and eat them. As long as you maintain a balance, it is a win-win situation. Much good has been done in the name of hunting and fishing. Killing an animal to eat it is okay, killing it to hang it on your wall is not. I also think catch and release is wrong... torturing an animal for the thrill of the catch.
  9. Vendee Globe 2016?

Alex said that he was able to retract the stub so the break must have been outboard of the hull. Seems odd it didn't break at the hull unless there was a weak point.

  11. Perry Sliver Class Day Sailor

If the sail unfurls it will most likely just luff until it tears itself to shreds but if the sheet catches on something and the sail fills.... like SloopJohnB said... dominoes.

Pointy end: CHECK Bow roller: CHECK Cockpit: Ooops, someone put it on the wrong end!
  13. Gook luck Mom, we're all rooting for you.
  14. Vendee Globe 2016?

    Is that outside assistance?
  15. Expensive night in the no wind zone... lost 2500+... shit. Now I'm looking at a lot more transoms.
