    Swampscott dory information

I'm off to the library to pick up a copy of The Dory Book. After looking at pictures of Wherries and the Beachcomber-Alpha I have to vote for the B/A dories. The line drawing that Rasputin22 posted is really close. Searching for the multi-plank transom should lead me somewhere interesting. The trailer tale will have to wait... the restoration of the broken down trailer is nearly complete.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I'll digest them tomorrow and see what I can find out. Also I'll tell the tale of the trailer when I'm at a keyboard instead of my phone.

    Swampscott dory information

I recently acquired, what I believe to be, a Swampscott dory. It's a beautiful little craft but I'm trying to get some history on her. Her most unusual feature is the transom. While the boat is lapstrake construction, the transom is make up of eight pieces (see photo). Has anyone seen this type of transom? Does it give any clues to the vintage, region, designer, or anything else? Please help me get some history on this latest addition to my fleet. And yes, I know the boat is on the trailer backwards! It a long and ugly tale that needn't be repeated.

    Something different for CA

A long time ago, a co-worker was chuckling about an article boosting Ducks Unlimited for their conservation efforts, because, of course, the reason they want a lot of ducks is to be able to out and hunt them. In my yacht club, it was the fishermen who worked with the state on Long Island Sound ecological issues. It is a bit of a paradox, but I see nothing wrong with wanting to ensure a supply of critters so you can harvest them and eat them. As long as you maintain a balance, it is a win-win situation. Much good has been done in the name of hunting and fishing. Killing an animal to eat it is okay, killing it to hang it on your wall is not. I also think catch and release is wrong... torturing an animal for the thrill of the catch.

    Vendee Globe 2016?

Alex said that he was able to retract the stub so the break must have been outboard of the hull. Seems odd it didn't break at the hull unless there was a weak point.

If the sail unfurls it will most likely just luff until it tears itself to shreds but if the sheet catches on something and the sail fills.... like SloopJohnB said... dominoes.

    Vendee Globe 2016?

He managed to get the broken stub out a bit ago. After hearing the months of time it took for the AC boats to make or repair foils I doubt AT has the materials or working conditions necessary to do the job. Nice try but doesn't seem probable.

    Vendee Globe 2016?

And let's not forget he is currently in 2nd place just half a day sailing behind the leader. He can't please some people. Sails too fast - he's reckless. Looks after his boat and maximises coverage for sport and sponsors - he's just a showman. The campaign he has managed and pulled off including the boat design, positive comments, the 24 hour record and just how sexy HB looks... He has done an amazing job and if he finishes on the podium he deserves it. +1

Not sure if the neon is still animated but it was quite a sight coming across the Ballard Bridge at night...

    Ugly dodger collection

i like it a lot, except I have a hatred for in-mast mains. You've had a bad experience, or don't like the performance hit? I've chartered two cruising boats with in-mast mains. The performance doesn't seem too bad but the convenience doesn't seem too big. Both, I've had them jam, you can't trim them for shit, and they whistle at the dock or on a mooring/anchor. If you want easy - install lazy jacks.
