      A Few Simple Rules   05/22/2017

Sailing Anarchy is a very lightly moderated site. This is by design, to afford a more free atmosphere for discussion. There are plenty of sailing forums you can go to where swearing isn't allowed, confrontation is squelched and, and you can have a moderator finger-wag at you for your attitude. SA tries to avoid that and allow for more adult behavior without moderators editing your posts and whacking knuckles with rulers. We don't have a long list of published "thou shalt nots" either, and this is by design. Too many absolute rules paints us into too many corners. So check the Terms of Service - there IS language there about certain types of behavior that is not permitted. We interpret that lightly and permit a lot of latitude, but we DO reserve the right to take action when something is too extreme to tolerate (too racist, graphic, violent, misogynistic, etc.). Yes, that is subjective, but it allows us discretion. Avoiding a laundry list of rules allows for freedom; don't abuse it. However there ARE a few basic rules that will earn you a suspension, and apparently a brief refresher is in order. 1) Allegations of pedophilia - there is no tolerance for this. So if you make allegations, jokes, innuendo or suggestions about child molestation, child pornography, abuse or inappropriate behavior with minors etc. about someone on this board you will get a time out. This is pretty much automatic; this behavior can have real world effect and is not acceptable. Obviously the subject is not banned when discussion of it is apropos, e.g. talking about an item in the news for instance. But allegations or references directed at or about another poster is verboten. 2) Outing people - providing real world identifiable information about users on the forums who prefer to remain anonymous. Yes, some of us post with our real names - not a problem to use them. However many do NOT, and if you find out someone's name keep it to yourself, first or last. This also goes for other identifying information too - employer information etc. You don't need too many pieces of data to figure out who someone really is these days. Depending on severity you might get anything from a scolding to a suspension - so don't do it. I know it can be confusing sometimes for newcomers, as SA has been around almost twenty years and there are some people that throw their real names around and their current Display Name may not match the name they have out in the public. But if in doubt, you don't want to accidentally out some one so use caution, even if it's a personal friend of yours in real life. 3) Posting While Suspended - If you've earned a timeout (these are fairly rare and hard to get), please observe the suspension. If you create a new account (a "Sock Puppet") and return to the forums to post with it before your suspension is up you WILL get more time added to your original suspension and lose your Socks. This behavior may result a permanent ban, since it shows you have zero respect for the few rules we have and the moderating team that is tasked with supporting them. Check the Terms of Service you agreed to; they apply to the individual agreeing, not the account you created, so don't try to Sea Lawyer us if you get caught. Just don't do it. Those are the three that will almost certainly get you into some trouble. IF YOU SEE SOMEONE DO ONE OF THESE THINGS, please do the following: Refrain from quoting the offending text, it makes the thread cleanup a pain in the rear Press the Report button; it is by far the best way to notify Admins as we will get e-mails. Calling out for Admins in the middle of threads, sending us PM's, etc. - there is no guarantee we will get those in a timely fashion. There are multiple Moderators in multiple time zones around the world, and anyone one of us can handle the Report and all of us will be notified about it. But if you PM one Mod directly and he's off line, the problem will get dealt with much more slowly. Other behaviors that you might want to think twice before doing include: Intentionally disrupting threads and discussions repeatedly. Off topic/content free trolling in threads to disrupt dialog Stalking users around the forums with the intent to disrupt content and discussion Repeated posting of overly graphic or scatological porn content. There are plenty web sites for you to get your freak on, don't do it here. And a brief note to Newbies... No, we will not ban people or censor them for dropping F-bombs on you, using foul language, etc. so please don't report it when one of our members gives you a greeting you may find shocking. We do our best not to censor content here and playing swearword police is not in our job descriptions. Sailing Anarchy is more like a bar than a classroom, so handle it like you would meeting someone a little coarse - don't look for the teacher. Thanks.

  1. It's OK as long as we only use green balloons...
  2. Outstanding day, and better wind than we were expecting. I've got an e-mail out seeking results. Hopefully they'll get posted on www.msmaine.org before too long. Navy Jr. is trying to resolve one scoring issue before posting final results... RC may have made one mistake while being distracted by a drunken, lovesick swimmer with a suicide wish... and no, I don't have pictures.
  3. Sincere condolences to crew, family, and friends of Beagle. I also think Jen handled the award ceremony very well. Based on feedback so far, I wouldn't count on the new format going away any time soon. The Sunday morning breakfast and award ceremony at PYC was glorious. Hats off to Jen, Mark, Molly, Carter...et al. for putting on a fantastic event.
  4. First gun is 1200 on Friday.
  5. Also tie breaker in Class "A". 5, 2 beats a 2, 5 unless there were some other formula specified in the sailing instructions. Hate to say this, but these might be a bit flawed? I could be wrong, but... Note that the corrected times for the B and D fleets the same as elapsed; it looks like maybe the handicaps were not applied? I see no course length in all the numbers there. Deja vu - same thing happened at Centerboard with the Cruising Class. The issue was rectified at the end of the party, after everyone had a good dose of beer and lasagna.
  6. I'd say someone had been out in the shed sorting through old aluminum sticks....
  7. This got us in the last race...
  8. Hmmm... good, but not quite as good as last year's deal where we got handles for something like $12 apiece! Stick bought a case that time. That supply is depleted now -- drank most ourselves and shared one with others at one of G's cookouts. Mom lives about 15 minutes from the circle, so perhaps we should go visit?! I was on my way to a regatta in CT during that sale and my host asked me to bring him a couple of cases... I had to decline. I'm not sure there, but there's GOT to be some law about transporting untaxed, below wholesale liquor over state lines. G Not illegal for "personal" consumption as long as you pay your Maine Use Tax (ie Pay Cash). Remember, rum running has been a tradition amongst N.E. sailors since days of old. Guy at the 95 North store told me (during our $12 rum run last year) that Maine had stopped posting unmarked state police in the parking lot after NH started arresting them for unlawful surveillance. Live Free or Die!!!
  9. It appears that the VOR racers may get to experience the 'horrors' of part of the last leg of the Monhegan Island Race... (This may not be a good way to promote Gulf of Maine Sailing.) Northern tip of the exclusion zone looks like it is almost due east (true) of Cape Elizabeth (43 Deg 30 Min N , 69 Deg 30 Min W) right on the lower left corner of chart 13288. Does anyone have the actual coordinates?

  11. Because it's my personal fucking choice. Talk about arrogant... I think the comment speaks for itself. Thank you for proving my point. What, that you're an arrogant moron? I already knew that, glad you know now too. Wow, the best you can do is a juvenile "I know you are but what am I". What a lightweight. If you are going to fight I would appreciate a little effort. Come on....
  12. Because it's my personal fucking choice. Talk about arrogant... If pit bulls only killed or injured their owners, then I would be all for no restrictions on them. But since they are known to attack and kill neighbors and others (whose personal fucking choice was not to be attacked), then it is no longer a matter of the owners personal choice. BTW, there was another pit bull attack today - "DISTRICT HEIGHTS, Md. - A Prince George's County fire official says a 4-year-old boy was critically injured when he was attacked by his family's pit bull." So by your logic, we should restrict all dogs that attack. Why not all guns? Knives? Baseball bats? Alcohol (drunk drivers kill too)? I'll keep my dog, thank you. BTW, he did not attack anyone again today... Wow, what a friggin' moron... When your gun gets up off the table and shoots me all by itself I will concede that I was wrong.
  13. Because it's my personal fucking choice. Talk about arrogant... I think the comment speaks for itself. Thank you for proving my point.
  14. Unless you are a friggin' drug dealer, why do you need a pit bull anyway??? Maybe I'll just get a bengal tiger. Not all of them kill children, right? I bet I can even find statistics showing poodles kill more children in the U.S. than bengal tigers. What a bunch of arrogant, naval gazing, B.S.!!!
  15. Should come in around 87 are you going to race it???? WTF, whaddaya think he'd do with it, haul lobster traps! Hey, take it easy on Kitty. Remember, he is in management now. Stupid questions, like buzz words, are just part of the job.
