Interesting Interpretations below 071 - relating to Ineos' or ETNZ's foils? Interpretation 071.pdf 072 - LR's look-mamma-no-backstay approach or ETNZ's "secret" mainsail sauce hinted at by others? Interpretation 072.pdf

But where is CEO Grant Simmer in all of this?

Not necessarily. From the questions asked, it seems that the applicant assumes that the horizon-focused camera(s) are looped into the control system to automatically adjust in response to the camera view of the horizon - which is clearly not permitted. A human performing the adjustment guided by the camera view is.

They do use ultrasonic sensors for ride-height measurements.

You've explained perfectly how a new team Alinghi were able to win in 2003 first-time up. And you've also articulated why an older team Oracle-BWM would never have won an AC (and would still be trying now) had Bertarelli not handed them the loophole through which Ellison rammed the DoG Challenge.

In one of his earlier blogs, he picks LR to just get through from Ineos to face AM in the Prada Cup Final, with AM prevailing.

You truly are a fuckwit - I know of no one who has ever referred to their own country in such disparaging language as you persistently do. Why don't you just fuck off to Vietnam and gorge yourself on all the mail-order brides you can handle you fucking wanker!!

That's a valid comparison which perhaps confirms the perception (rightly or otherwise) of Ineos Team UK Challenge as an England initiative. I tend to agree with Magnus that Ineos will surprise a few punters in the Prada Cup - none more so than the dismissive Italians.

All the questions involve automating yacht-state reactive controls in response to horizon-focused camera(s), which the Interpretations confirm are not allowed. But what's to stop Tuke from using a joystick to adjust TR state in response to deviation from horizon viewed through the camera(s)? TR's camera pods?..

Actually, Emirates Team New Zealand have team members (boat-building, shore support, management, sailing) from throughout the country, from Invercargill up to Northland. And then there is the little matter of our government support for the team which helps with identifying with the team.

Not really the issue: while most Americans and Italians might not necessarily know the finer details of the teams representing them in AC36, I expect those who are aware of the America's Cup identify with "their" team representing their country. I can understand why this may not be the same within the 4 home countries for reasons beyond lack of interest in sailing.

Really?? That seems to be a very mercenary attitude to a GBR team competing in the international arena.

Very interesting Interpretation requests on the use of video cameras aboard the AC75s in their potential incorporation into control systems. One of the Competitors is being quite persistent: they've asked essentially the same questions in the 2 separate requests within 8 days. They must not have liked the answers in Interpretation 067 so they've had another go in Interpretation 069 I wonder if ETNZ's control system is being questioned by one of the Competitors behind the interpretation requests...LR?

So, it's fair to infer from that that it is in fact more of a Ineos Team England Challenge?

I wonder how Ineos Team "UK" is really viewed back in the UK? Do the Irish, Welsh and Scots really consider Ineos Team a "UK" effort or more an England challenge?

    AC TV Coverage

All modern sports dance to the TV $$$ tune, e.g. rugby international matches we used to enjoy in the sunny afternoons are now played at nights to accommodate NH audiences, baseball, bb and GI matches I imagine are scheduled at prime spots to try to capture the most eyeballs. AC is very much a niche event which is unlikely to attract many - if any!! - moonshine-glazed eyeballs from the inland States or many Chinese, Russian or African viewers... When the Cup leaves our shores, most of us will still be following it...

Our resident whinging pom needs a block on the other shoulder for balance. Must come from 170+ years of failure in AC.
