Chiles vs Hancock on what is an "Open Boat"

According to your "standard" the laser and 420 are not open boats as the both float even fully swamped

Some induction coils work on non magnetic - depends on the frequency of the power applied to the coil

    Chicago Area III

    Damn straight

Do you know it this works on stainless? Some induction heating coils do and some don't - has a lot to do with the frequency of the power supply to the coil.

VOR Leg 9 Newport to Cardiff

Yeah - it would have to be some pretty intricate knots to go that slow

VOR Leg 9 Newport to Cardiff

Kind of pathetic that supposed yachties would even consider writing "knots an hour" unless it's a class on knot tying..........

VOR Leg 9 Newport to Cardiff

    Not by a longshot
  8. That's it; your bullshit quota for the day has been exceeded. Your "traditional" PHRF crab crusher puts far less demand on crew ability than powered up sportboats

    Weather Map Definitions

PWG = Predictwind forecast based on GFS data PWE = Predictwind forecast based on ECMWF data GFS = The Global Forecast System (GFS) is a weatherforecast model produced by the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP). ECMWF = European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts the 50/8/1 KM is the granularity of the GRIB file - as in 50KM has a grid with 50KM between the nodes and so on Lately the ECMWF and thus also PWE has been outperforming the GFS based data by a good margin

    Nexus Nx2 Wind Issue .

I have seen wonky stuff on Nexus networks when some instruments are disconnected and the remedy for that is to re-initialize the instrument(/s) still on the bus. Sounds like a data issue more than anything else

    Rusty stainless

Does it actually passivate the SS?

Sold everything to sail the world...boat sunk on day 2

    Grifting away again in Margaritaville..............................

    Rusty stainless

You have to passivate the SS. For a DYI job get this

    DTB 2018 5/25/2018 - DH class

Stay out of the fish traps. They ought to be lit but are often not - and you will not make it over the nets (even the ones that sit under the surface) Current (either direction) is by far strongest in the channel - by a factor of 2-3 If you have AIS - use it - the commercial traffic does move at a pretty good clip and in light air you wont be able to get out of the way in a hurry Other than that - enjoy 120 miles on the nose

    Go or No Go

Oh - remember this is the US - very common practice to never actually express the real concern but pretending to a foreigner living here it drives me bonkers
  17. I am aware of this. Moose put deflectors on his rig. Deflectors go from the backstays to the hounds (the point on the mast where the forestay attaches) so you can add some of the backstay tension to increase forestay tension when going upwind in heavier air.

    Go or No Go

Nope - that was the result of the boat/skipper not making prudent decisions

In the region - if we are talking real $$

    UV Protection

The most important thing you can do for UV is to put a cover over the boat when you are not sailing

If you have to ask that question - just keep walking along - nothing for you to see here

9 yrs and no more attempts??

Sorry bud - disagree with you there. Land "Sailing" is just as much sailing as hang gliding, parachuting, flying glider planes and the like - as in not at all.
  23. Not unlike a Finn is 25 knots - believe me most peeps are dead by the end of the day on those days
  24. This makes absolutely no sense. As to whether kiting is sailing - hmmmmm - I am definitely split on that one
