It was interesting to hear BA when asked by the Telegraph reporter what in hindsight he thought might have been the problem. BA immediately spoke about the Designers, the F1 influence trying to get onboard and understand sailing, the early commitment to 'the Best of British' etc.

It will also be interesting to see if BAR maintains that general path in a (hopefully, I guess) next run at the Cup.

This was definitely an issue for BAR, they were too keen to get the best British designers, engineers etc. rather than getting the best in the world. Maybe they needed to do that to push the nationlistic aspect in order to raise funding, but it was a stupid approach.

As for the F1 guys, definitely valuable in terms of design and engineering process, this is where companies like McClaren are outstanding. But possibly not much they could contribute directly to the design of the boat.

  2. "This move to a smaller boat is very much part of that and it makes it more likely for newer teams to come in and take part and for us to create a global circuit, which is what we all want."

No, it's not what we all want. We want an America's Cup, one challenger, one defender, every 3-4 years. Fuck you, Ainslie

Money still seems to be the big Issue for Ben. According to Sources he has only secured 35 of 100 Mio Pounds he needs to get to the Startline for 2017.

I seriously doubt Sources have a clue how much he has raised. Or that you'll need US$150M to get to the start line. If he's raised £35M already (which I doubt) that would be game on.

Looks like that Sources guy knows what he is talking about. What else has he got to say?

    Floater – Pippa Wilson (GBR)

As always, an unfortunately named position, but this time for a lovely person. How many women sail on the ESS? Good to see another join the ranks.

I thought blue eyeshadow was out.

Good point, for some reason Luna Rossa gets massively underestimated as well. They've been up there for a long time with solid $s and are well set to make a challenge in either US or NZ. If they get some design talent signed they could win it next time in either monos or multis.

The Italians will never put together a team that isn't full of egos, infighting, bickering, dummy spits and firings.

The AC is a first of all a management race, and as such the Italians have lost before they start.

    and the French?

They co-operate so badly that they will start 4 or 5 teams which will all die from lack of funding, just like last time.

errrm... have you forgotten that he managed Alinghi to two cup wins?
