    personal ocean race gear

Good quality, comfortable, cotton free jocks. Probably some nice, cotton free quick drying socks too
  2. I have races against boats who did not carry all of the required equipment, and who had Spinnakers of questionable size and number appear during races, and never did anything about it. For some reason, only boats known for their strict adherence to the rules ever seemed to be audited post race . . . Given this steaming turd of an outcome, what is the proper process for ensuring a boat you suspect does not comply is investigated? Is it a protest? What about a boat who has never taken the required water and fuel, same steps?

    GB5508 Rebuild - Soma's Project

The 3m UV films are very good, significant heat reduction even with minimal visual change. The auto vinyl wrap people seem quite skilled and cheap for installation too

    Sydney To Hobart 2018

Come on now Jack . . . . It's thirsty work watching a tracker with updates that slow

    Sydney To Hobart 2018

Ugly finish for ichi and friends, every time I look at the tracker speeds are dropping. They have been about an hour away for an hour!

You can run in as many divisions as you want for most passage races in Aus, since it's all run at the same time and just different numbers crunched at the end. It will usually cost you a few dollars though

I've got a few pesos on alive and voodoo, hoping one pulls off a win
  8. Is one of these ever going to be finished and sailing?

    onboard coffee??

Almond milk with coffee can be pretty good, soy milk always tastes a little like dirt

    elliot 780 - solo

What, in particular, needs work on the e780 rig and rudder? We have picked up the ESPX public enemy and need to build a lifting rudder.

    onboard coffee??

They make a little noise, but it's a nice satisfying crunch rather than an electromechanical whirr. They are also quite quick if you are grinding coarse, it can take a while for fine grinds.

    onboard coffee??

When someone drops your grinder base for you, it turns out that bell canning jars have the same diameter and thread.

PHRF is not run by self-interested clowns

Who else is more qualified to handicap boats than designers, builders and sail makers? Their lives revolve around boats, they see more and in more detail than any owner.

    onboard coffee??

I've been looking for something like the java jug for ages, thanks! We use an aeropress when sitting around with nowhere to be, but have a stash of coffee bags for when it's all too rushed. The Robert Timms extra strong ones are an improvement over instant for minimal extra effort.

    Sydney To Hobart 2018

The boat is fresh out of the shed according to Facebook, getting a bit of structure added before heading out. Their nav is a pretty switched on fella, no idea about the rest of the crew.

    Sydney To Hobart 2018

Anyone ever tried to get odds on a boat not yet listed by the bookies? It says others on request, just wondering it's worth the effort. There are some strange boats on the list, no tp52 but a Sydney 46 sailed by Russians is there

You can get onto the BoM beta testing lists and provide regular feedback to their information delivery formats pretty easily. I do a survey every month or so, with lots of space written comments. One of the first surveys I did I asked for pressure information to be included on the meteye wind forecast, with a decent paragraph explaining why it was useful for recreational marine users, and hey presto it's there now. Obviously I wasn't the only one requesting that info, but they definitely want feedback from communities like sailors I seriously recommend some of you get involved and try and improve the service.

There is a Rogers 8m canter with a pedestal in the cockpit in Brisbane. I don't believe it's currently advertised, only an old listing, but I can give you a Facebook contact if you are keen. Priced around 25kor less

    ARC 2017

On paper the ts42 doesn't look too wild, just a nice, moderate, cruiser racer. Polyester can't hide anything too exotic, and an alloy rig. Awesome to see it keeping up with the big toys
  20. A few people do cruises up the qld coast in beach cats. An old couple I yacht sail with did from mooloolaba to Yeppoon in a nacra 5.0, and there were a couple of crazies that went up to Airlie in a pair of f18's, with a few mods. That looked like an awesome trip. Thereare a few problems with long raid races around here: down south there are mostly surf beaches, which are impossible to launch through with any swell running. North of Gladstone there are toothy lizards in any creek or river. A raid race around SEQ, inside moreton, would be awesome.

    Rushour on its roof.

So Drew, in the same situation, would you dump main and bear off, or dump jib and head up? Everyone talks about having a hand on the main, but it is often luffing and partially depowered in these sorts of conditions anyway. Jib is almost always full and powered up

    Melbourne Big Boat Fleet

I am somewhat familiar with Arcadia, yes . . . I'm pretty sure the new owner has made a few mods, anchor windlass and hot water were on the cards I think. It still seems to be doing ok so he can't have put too much shit onboard

    Melbourne Big Boat Fleet

One for the road looks to be an A40, Arcadia is an a40rc. Slightly newer design, a little quicker around the track, and a slightly better IRC rating. The a40rc are great w/l machines, not as strong reaching, especially in heavy air. Have a look at what sort of legs were in a race before making too many conclusions between the boats.

    Trophy Vendors - Any Recommendations?

Top quality work, and Steve will make the trophies up to match a picture if you give him time. The pictures on the website don't really convey how cool they are IMO
