      A Few Simple Rules   05/22/2017

Sailing Anarchy is a very lightly moderated site. This is by design, to afford a more free atmosphere for discussion. There are plenty of sailing forums you can go to where swearing isn't allowed, confrontation is squelched and, and you can have a moderator finger-wag at you for your attitude. SA tries to avoid that and allow for more adult behavior without moderators editing your posts and whacking knuckles with rulers. We don't have a long list of published "thou shalt nots" either, and this is by design. Too many absolute rules paints us into too many corners. So check the Terms of Service - there IS language there about certain types of behavior that is not permitted. We interpret that lightly and permit a lot of latitude, but we DO reserve the right to take action when something is too extreme to tolerate (too racist, graphic, violent, misogynistic, etc.). Yes, that is subjective, but it allows us discretion. Avoiding a laundry list of rules allows for freedom; don't abuse it. However there ARE a few basic rules that will earn you a suspension, and apparently a brief refresher is in order. 1) Allegations of pedophilia - there is no tolerance for this. So if you make allegations, jokes, innuendo or suggestions about child molestation, child pornography, abuse or inappropriate behavior with minors etc. about someone on this board you will get a time out. This is pretty much automatic; this behavior can have real world effect and is not acceptable. Obviously the subject is not banned when discussion of it is apropos, e.g. talking about an item in the news for instance. But allegations or references directed at or about another poster is verboten. 2) Outing people - providing real world identifiable information about users on the forums who prefer to remain anonymous. Yes, some of us post with our real names - not a problem to use them. However many do NOT, and if you find out someone's name keep it to yourself, first or last. This also goes for other identifying information too - employer information etc. You don't need too many pieces of data to figure out who someone really is these days. Depending on severity you might get anything from a scolding to a suspension - so don't do it. I know it can be confusing sometimes for newcomers, as SA has been around almost twenty years and there are some people that throw their real names around and their current Display Name may not match the name they have out in the public. But if in doubt, you don't want to accidentally out some one so use caution, even if it's a personal friend of yours in real life. 3) Posting While Suspended - If you've earned a timeout (these are fairly rare and hard to get), please observe the suspension. If you create a new account (a "Sock Puppet") and return to the forums to post with it before your suspension is up you WILL get more time added to your original suspension and lose your Socks. This behavior may result a permanent ban, since it shows you have zero respect for the few rules we have and the moderating team that is tasked with supporting them. Check the Terms of Service you agreed to; they apply to the individual agreeing, not the account you created, so don't try to Sea Lawyer us if you get caught. Just don't do it. Those are the three that will almost certainly get you into some trouble. IF YOU SEE SOMEONE DO ONE OF THESE THINGS, please do the following: Refrain from quoting the offending text, it makes the thread cleanup a pain in the rear Press the Report button; it is by far the best way to notify Admins as we will get e-mails. Calling out for Admins in the middle of threads, sending us PM's, etc. - there is no guarantee we will get those in a timely fashion. There are multiple Moderators in multiple time zones around the world, and anyone one of us can handle the Report and all of us will be notified about it. But if you PM one Mod directly and he's off line, the problem will get dealt with much more slowly. Other behaviors that you might want to think twice before doing include: Intentionally disrupting threads and discussions repeatedly. Off topic/content free trolling in threads to disrupt dialog Stalking users around the forums with the intent to disrupt content and discussion Repeated posting of overly graphic or scatological porn content. There are plenty web sites for you to get your freak on, don't do it here. And a brief note to Newbies... No, we will not ban people or censor them for dropping F-bombs on you, using foul language, etc. so please don't report it when one of our members gives you a greeting you may find shocking. We do our best not to censor content here and playing swearword police is not in our job descriptions. Sailing Anarchy is more like a bar than a classroom, so handle it like you would meeting someone a little coarse - don't look for the teacher. Thanks.

      Moderation Team Change   06/16/2017

After fifteen years of volunteer moderation at SA, I will no longer be part of the moderation team. The decision to step aside is mine, and has been some time in the works but we did not wish to announce it in advance for a number of reasons. It's been fun, but I need my time back for other purposes now. The Underdawg admin account will not be monitored until further notice, as I will be relinquishing control of it along with my administrative privileges. Zapata will continue on as a moderator, and any concerns or issues can be directed to that account or to the Editor until further notice. Anyone interested in helping moderate the forums should reach out to Scot by sending a PM to the Editor account. Please note that I am not leaving the community, I am merely stepping aside from Admin responsibilities and privileges on the site.

  1. While they have complied with the RRS by stating the reason is the reason valid? By not calling up the party for a hearing or a misbehaviour charge before the relevant committee, how does a party know they have breeched the misconduct? Some YC have very strange and archaic rules. If you are not bought before the committee how do you know you have breeched the rules? If this is not challenged where does it stop? If the OA doesn't want you to attend (maybe your boat is better than the club commodores) they just site 'breeched the misconduct of the club. Then refuse your entry. If at the time you were charged with misconduct (drinking beer from a can instead of glass) then you at least you can defend yourself at a hearing. Is it within the rules? yes. Is it correct not bringing you before the committee to explain your actions? no.
  2. Malcolm Page is a one of the best sailors in the 470 in the modern era. He is also one of the nicest people you would ever wish to meet. Hope he doesn't get burnt by everyone expecting him to walk into the office on Monday and have the US winning world championships by the week end. The whole US Olympic structure needs to overhauled. It takes time to change the whole system. When looking at Olympic history in Australia http://www.sailing.org.au/performance/olympic/history/ there are periods of no medals. 2004 no medals after a successful 2000. Malcolm Page was there during the successful period, so hopefully for the US he can build a program that can produce champions in the future. Can he do it one quad, I would doubt it. Can he have success in the second quad, I think he can. It takes and you need to give him time.
  3. Yes, thanks it was a good interview.
  4. It is a very good interview and gives a great insight to PH. A couple of things: There was discussion about the youth worlds in Malaysia. PH conveniently forgot the Fiona Kidd, Canada, was chair of the youth world sub-scommitte that approved the youth worlds in Malaysia. She was also on the Events Committee which rubber stamped it. And I think she was on Council representing the Woman that rubber stamped it. Kidd and Henderson are friends. So when people say ISAF did this perhaps it should be looked at who actually gave the recommendation. Henderson saying international classes should get vote for president is possibly a good idea. Classes think beyond their borders unlike the MNA. When he was president for 10 years why didn't Henderson make the submission then? It is never going to happen as the MNAs will never give up their control. Still the most forward thinking of the candidates.
  5. By the looks of it the Hobie 16 still runs youth youth world championships at their Hobie 16 worlds. The Wave is at the Americas Cup http://www.hobiecat.com/blog/americas-cup-endeavour-programme,432/?cache=none
  6. How about organising some events that people actually want to travel to? The sailors have not been attending the event. There is no real requirement to attend the event. So either you get rid of the event, or make it requirement or an important reason for sailors from the northern hemisphere to attend. The easier option was chosen.
  7. Do you seriously expect me to publish her name on this forum? If it is a 'her' that would narrow it down to the two ISAF/WS women VP or two women ISAF/WS secretaries who would attend an ISAF/WS Executive meeting. All the ISAF/WS media people are now male. Those people are telling you what happened in a closed meeting. Sorry you are going to have to do better than that to convince anybody.
  8. What evidence do you have of this statement: "Hunt has blacklisted all contact with media organisations that are not favorable to his cause"? At a crisis meeting with the Executive last week In Southampton the issue of public relations was discussed. The agreed strategy for the most part included the following: - As a priority defend all current legal action rigorously no matter what the cost. An upheld case will lead to scores of copy cat cases. - Minimize all contact with media organizations seeking to damage World Sailing. Especially those that are clearly bringing the sport of sailing into disrepute. Maintain close contact with media organizations that provide more balanced reporting. On another matter. Please stop referring to me as a mentally retarded child. Sauce? If the WS Executive did discuss these issues I doubt they would make it public. S0 how do you know that was on the agenda and what was discussed?
  9. Another one bites the dust
  10. Well they can start by explaining how Cory Sertl is the chair of the world youth sub-committee and has been on the committee for years. The youth world sub committee recommend to ISAF council the venue for the youth worlds. ISAF council makes the final decision on that committees advice. Cory Sertl is also the US Sailing representative on the ISAF council and would have voted for Langkawi. US Sailing can't hide or blame ISAF when their representative proposed and voted for Langkawi.
  11. The ISAF VP for the World Youth Championships is Nazil from Turkey. If you have ever meet her it is a smart move by ISAF to put Atkins in. She would only poor fuel on the fire.
  12. It is very easy as it is all about me. Look at the race officials appointed http://www.sailing.org/tools/documents/2015ISAFYouthSailingWorldsRaceOfficialAppointments-[18806].pdf Then look at the world youth sub-sommittee http://www.sailing.org/about/committees/events/youth_worlds.php There is an Austrian who votes for the games and then gets appointed on the jury. It is all about ME Now I have found out this guy is a former employee of ISAF. Snout really in the trough.
