      Abbreviated rules   07/28/2017

Underdawg did an excellent job of explaining the rules.  Here's the simplified version: Don't insinuate Pedo.  Warning and or timeout for a first offense.  PermaFlick for any subsequent offenses Don't out members.  See above for penalties.  Caveat:  if you have ever used your own real name or personal information here on the forums since, like, ever - it doesn't count and you are fair game. If you see spam posts, report it to the mods.  We do not hang out in every thread 24/7 If you see any of the above, report it to the mods by hitting the Report button in the offending post.   We do not take action for foul language, off-subject content, or abusive behavior unless it escalates to persistent stalking.  There may be times that we might warn someone or flick someone for something particularly egregious.  There is no standard, we will know it when we see it.  If you continually report things that do not fall into rules #1 or 2 above, you may very well get a timeout yourself for annoying the Mods with repeated whining.  Use your best judgement. Warnings, timeouts, suspensions and flicks are arbitrary and capricious.  Deal with it.  Welcome to anarchy.   If you are a newbie, there are unwritten rules to adhere to.  They will be explained to you soon enough.

  8. News from SF Embarcadero...

You sound just like George L. Schuyler. PS Lattes are sooooo bourgeois my good man. Who is George Schuyler? and should I care? I make my Lattes at home. too expensive to buy them and besides I make better ones. Though, I was kind of playing off the Mega Yacht comment.
  9. News from SF Embarcadero...

Looks like a total Jackfest. I can hear'em now over their lattes "I wonder what the middle class are doing today" I need to print that photo and head to the bathroom.................oh yea mine don't work anymore
  10. Some of my old sailing photos 2

Gary Swenson Driving The Ed looking like he is trimming Me Pushing out the Main after hoisting the Kite in about 2 seconds.... And Vicki (gary's ex) in the bow I think the photo is 80 or 81 nationals at CI Harbor. And yes that is one of those early light weight Mylar kites, we called a "Quivering Cell" because in anything other than flat water they quivered and were not fun to trim or very fast.
  11. Obama's Mexican Gunrunning Operation

Now if it were Reagan and Ollie North, it might be believable, then they would have (made) an excuse to militarize the border.
  12. Where is the oil????

Lou Dobbs on the O'Factor tonight says the hike in gas prices is contrived by the Market Traders and the Oil Companies to jack the price of gas. The Saudi said they would make up any loss by the Libyan cut in shipping. So are we being screwed by profiteers or is this real?
  13. Chicago Area III

I have not been following the thread so I do not know if there was bashing going on. If George did it I don't know how.
  14. skull fracture anarchy

That is what helmets are for. Frontal Lobe injuries are serious. 2 of the most significant side effects from this type of injury are: Memory loss and the inability to remember certain things. Emotional detachment. There was a great show about brain injures a while back. They discussed a British guy who had a severe frontal concussion and he lost all ability to feel love or emotion and he has a wife and child. His injury kinda F'd the whole family thing up. After my fall I can say that I have experienced both.

  16. West Michigan Thread

It is not hard to link back to it or to individual post in the thread. You can still read it and search for it. It has not gone away. Understood dawg, and you are right of course but, our West Mi thread was not a subject, it was a gathering place. Linking back isn't the point as none of us really ever go back and scroll through it anyway, it is just a chronical of the community. Pathetic as that may be , Kinda like the neighborhood bar burning down and moving accross the street. Not really all that different but yet never quite the same either. Keeping the thread on the first page of threads was kind of a point of pride (hey we are in Michigan, we gotta hang our hat on something!). We'll get over it, it was just a shock and a disruption in our everyday routine. Maybe it's just me.............having lost half of my body (I still have to drag around), losing a thread seems pretty Minor especially when you can create a new one with more relevant banter. I am sure the last few posts had nothing to do with the first few hundred. Like the bar scenario every day is a new one and the last one is left behind (but not forgotten) ??? Maybe I'll create a "Closed Threads" category so they are easy to find and review for posterity's sake.

  18. West Michigan Thread

I am thinking that it is not a limitation in the servers or database. SQL should be able to handle huge tables of data. I am guessing it is a software issue that only SA could find. The IPS techs recommend keeping threads below 1500 posts. I suppose there is a limitation int he code that they thought no one would ever hit. The posts I closed and advised to link back to all had over 5000 or more posts. Usually a thread has already made its point or has changed it's subject or deteriorated after a couple hundred posts. The SA community pushes the limits in every thing and every direction. Maybe I should allow thread starters to close their threads when they feel the point has been made or if just turns into a shit fest?????
  19. J/111 Goes Sailing...

So I look up the Archimbault M34 and some of those photos could be Spinnaker Porn. Just from the photos the M34 looks like it could take the 111 apart. But I think J is on track because US sailors want a boat they can sail easily and have a beer with their buddies on. The 111 looks to be that kind of boat. Though I still want to see some interior photos.
  20. J/111 Goes Sailing...

Actaully both shots look good. I am more curious about building techniques used. Are they relatively the same as they were 20 /30 years ago or have things progressed much. polish and wax the mold Shoot the Gel Coat Lay up glass lay up core Lay up glass vacuum bag and let cure
  21. J/111 Goes Sailing...

So much comparison between the SC37 and the J 111. I think I like the dual wheels on the SC37. So many toys whci on do I want. SC 37 image gallery I like the Interior shots. SA should own one. J 111 image gallery
  22. J/111 Goes Sailing...

But when you consider that back in the late 70's and early 80's, hippies were building boats that were 5' longer (Olson and SC 40)and only 1000lbs heavier with nice wood tone interiors that made you feel at home instead of in a plastic boat, I'd say that building techniques for boats built for the average sailor has not progressed much in the last 30 some odd years. (I bet profits have) The image gallery does not show any interior photos, not good.
  23. Supreme Court Strikes down Chicago Gun ban

Souns pretty reasonable to me. That's because you have never cleaned a gun inside a house... It's best done in the garage. Here is one for the Litigators. "When is a gun a gun?" When it is loaded with cartridges that will fire (not blanks). Clinton brought forth the question, when is "is" is. So when is a Gun a Gun??
  24. Supreme Court Strikes down Chicago Gun ban

I question the need for either. Here in FL we have millions of gun owners, over half a million of us have concealed weapons permits, and I have not see the major problems caused by lack of training nor by lack of safe storage. I might not have a problem with it, if we implemented it right AFTER the requirement that voters pass a basic civics test before casting ballots. Or have prospective jurors pass a high school exit exam
