      Abbreviated rules   07/28/2017

Underdawg did an excellent job of explaining the rules.  Here's the simplified version: Don't insinuate Pedo.  Warning and or timeout for a first offense.  PermaFlick for any subsequent offenses Don't out members.  See above for penalties.  Caveat:  if you have ever used your own real name or personal information here on the forums since, like, ever - it doesn't count and you are fair game. If you see spam posts, report it to the mods.  We do not hang out in every thread 24/7 If you see any of the above, report it to the mods by hitting the Report button in the offending post.   We do not take action for foul language, off-subject content, or abusive behavior unless it escalates to persistent stalking.  There may be times that we might warn someone or flick someone for something particularly egregious.  There is no standard, we will know it when we see it.  If you continually report things that do not fall into rules #1 or 2 above, you may very well get a timeout yourself for annoying the Mods with repeated whining.  Use your best judgement. Warnings, timeouts, suspensions and flicks are arbitrary and capricious.  Deal with it.  Welcome to anarchy.   If you are a newbie, there are unwritten rules to adhere to.  They will be explained to you soon enough.

  1. Thanks for all response. Here is a vid from us... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-waggBaH6Y
  2. Driftwood, hi. Yes, small displays for driver only. Single numbers repeaters that I can see at any time for reference to see that I am in the ball park (or not). Feedback from navigator may take time. Hopefully two numbers are enough, TWA and Boatspeed? Rantifarian; We will surely try to develop a crossover chart. Thanks y'all.
  3. Thank you people. For sure calibration is everything. Garbage in, garbage everywhere. Rantifarian, would you not drive to polars? Yes, over time polars will trend towards the best the boat has done but if it is the only reference you have, why not use it, knowing that when you do 90% you are doing 18 knots when it could be 20. Hump101; I have never heard of Airmar WX200 before and not as transducer for yachts. What kind of boat are you using it for? What I aim for is a minimum number of data items to be permanently displayed for me as helm. Things you need all the time. Assume you have a tactician to tell you where to go and how much wind there is and what sails to use. I will want the numbers close to my line of sight, probably on the forward beam. This is why I do not wish to have 5 or 8 numbers. Each display takes up quite some space.
  4. Cheers multis, Sailing a 32 foot trimaran there are not many other boats to race with to benchmark so we talk about adding instruments to see how we perform. Suppose you get all possible data and computation (every NMEA abbreviation there is). Now, how many data items would you need to see when training? Go for the minimum number of items as instruments cost Euros and take up space. You wish to train for best WMG up and down wind and also reaching angles in between. I'm thinking OPT WA (optimum wind angle = Target TWA - TWA) and of course POL% (Polar performance = BSpd / POL x 100). Making it just two instruments repeaters (each side). What would you go for? Thanks /anders
