      Abbreviated rules   07/28/2017

Underdawg did an excellent job of explaining the rules.  Here's the simplified version: Don't insinuate Pedo.  Warning and or timeout for a first offense.  PermaFlick for any subsequent offenses Don't out members.  See above for penalties.  Caveat:  if you have ever used your own real name or personal information here on the forums since, like, ever - it doesn't count and you are fair game. If you see spam posts, report it to the mods.  We do not hang out in every thread 24/7 If you see any of the above, report it to the mods by hitting the Report button in the offending post.   We do not take action for foul language, off-subject content, or abusive behavior unless it escalates to persistent stalking.  There may be times that we might warn someone or flick someone for something particularly egregious.  There is no standard, we will know it when we see it.  If you continually report things that do not fall into rules #1 or 2 above, you may very well get a timeout yourself for annoying the Mods with repeated whining.  Use your best judgement. Warnings, timeouts, suspensions and flicks are arbitrary and capricious.  Deal with it.  Welcome to anarchy.   If you are a newbie, there are unwritten rules to adhere to.  They will be explained to you soon enough.

  1. Hi All, Thanks for all your comments, very useful. I did some research and found that the boat has been entered and has race results from 8 races from 2013 to 2015, totalling approximately 45 hours of sailing. Even with my limited experience with these sails I believe storage degradation may be a bigger issue than hours of use. Any ideas how this affects these kind of sails? Best regards, Ole
  2. Hi all, first post in a very long time… I’ve been boatless since 2007, but the itch is back we are considering going back to the dark side. The hottest candidate is a 2006 Beneteau First 31.7 and the sales ad claims as follows: Original sails: 2006 (?) UK sails, Main, furling G1 and G3, “simple crosscut sails, works fine for cruising”. Racing sails: 2011 Quantum MX Twaron, “like new”. Main almost "as New" G1 (150%) "few hours use" Jib (104%) "barely hoisted" Spinnaker, AP, "few hours use" Recent: Ullman sails 2014 roller furling and reefing cruising G1 (140%) taffeta on both sides, “little used”. Traveling to inspect will require air fares, hotel costs, etc., so before time and Money is spent, anybody’s two cents is highly appreciated. If I do decide to travel, I will require to inspect, hoist and preferably sail with all sails. I realize the following are noob questions, but my experience is mainly from one-design, where Dacron was mandatory, so laminates and fibers such as Twaron is largely uncharted territory and I fear that any vaguely exotic laminate/fiber sail will look impressive and I’ll ask him to please take my money. So I ask the all-knowing forum: Does anybody have any experience with the Quantum brand, MX line of product and Twaron fibre form this period? How does normal use affect these sails? I assume that these sails would be toast after 6-7 seasons of normal use, so how do I check if the claim of little used is true? How does ageing affect them even if they have been little used? Would I be naïve to think they hold any value (of use) at all, given their age? Any comments regarding the other sails? Even though I have a posting history on these forums from way back in 2004 or something, I realize I’ve been away for so long I must have been degraded to a simple noob by now, so I’ll fuck off for now. Any useful feedback here, I’ll show my wife and tell her about the expected compensation to the forum members. Thanks, Ole
