You have to say that Ben and Giles are both superb sailors and the chemistry between them is great. Lots of clear, calm communication, clearly on the same wavelength and thinking ahead in a way that we haven’t seen yet on AM particularly.

    Prada Cup

And here’s the Ineos vs AM vote... like for Ineos, dislike for AM

    Prada Cup

So, tomorrow Luna Rosa vs NYYC. Place your bets - like this post for US, dislike for Italy.

    Prada Cup

    That explains a lot - it’s 2021 where I live
  6. Trivial question but it’s bugging me: why do the camber stripes get thicker the higher up the mast they are? Is it just so they look the same width to a camera mounted at deck level?

The new sailing twin skin setup

    Two words - Navier Stokes.

    Prada Cup

Has there been much spirit in the entire history of the Cup? One hundred and seventy years of legal dispute and stacking the cards and throwing rattles out of prams. Thinking about it, it’s a wonder Trump has never been involved.

LOL. So? The physics hasn’t changed!

That North article is good, and it is ultimately span that matters not AR. But end plating one end of a foil will not quadruple the effective aspect ratio. In reality it won’t even double it. See NACA Tech Note 2440, Table 1 for example. http://naca.central.cranfield.ac.uk/reports/1951/naca-tn-2440.pdf

Not quite. You (roughly) double the aspect ratio if the foil is end plated, not the span. That means you double the span after squaring it - otherwise you’ll quadruple the AR.

I spent a (great) year in NZ in 94/95 and was fortunate enough to watch both Jonah Lomu in a World Cup selection match and the ticker tape parade in Auckland after Peter Blake won the AC. I still have the pair of lucky red socks I bought for the occasion. The amount of national outpouring that day would only be equalled in England if they won the FIFA World Cup.

No. You are looking for something that isn’t there. Is it Emirates Team North Island?

Well Bleddyn Mon is Welsh... but 99% of the UK won’t even be aware of the America’s Cup, in fact I’d say even most sailors would be unaware that it is currently happening. And by Irish I assume you mean NI only.

    Emirates Team New Zealand.

I’d honestly rather see Warner get another duck

    Happy days being Broad’s bunny!

Apologies if this has been asked before, but what is the metal work on the underside of the foil? It’s not externally actuated, surely? Apart from that it looks just like a falcon, much nicer than the ones used in the ACWS!
  21. sosoomii

    Emirates Team New Zealand.

But Warner is the main douche.

Are they not allowed to use a lower forestay/hound attachment point when using little jibs? The gap between the jib leach and mast does my head in.

    Brexit WTF, WTF

Voltaire: Mais dans ce pays-ci il est bon de tuer de tems en tems un Amiral pour encourager les autres. Translation: But in this country it is found good, from time to time, to kill one Admiral to encourage the others.”

No, a Kiwi designed it, lol. And in many ways that’s even sadder, regardless of whether it gets competitive or not.
