      Abbreviated rules   07/28/2017

Underdawg did an excellent job of explaining the rules.  Here's the simplified version: Don't insinuate Pedo.  Warning and or timeout for a first offense.  PermaFlick for any subsequent offenses Don't out members.  See above for penalties.  Caveat:  if you have ever used your own real name or personal information here on the forums since, like, ever - it doesn't count and you are fair game. If you see spam posts, report it to the mods.  We do not hang out in every thread 24/7 If you see any of the above, report it to the mods by hitting the Report button in the offending post.   We do not take action for foul language, off-subject content, or abusive behavior unless it escalates to persistent stalking.  There may be times that we might warn someone or flick someone for something particularly egregious.  There is no standard, we will know it when we see it.  If you continually report things that do not fall into rules #1 or 2 above, you may very well get a timeout yourself for annoying the Mods with repeated whining.  Use your best judgement. Warnings, timeouts, suspensions and flicks are arbitrary and capricious.  Deal with it.  Welcome to anarchy.   If you are a newbie, there are unwritten rules to adhere to.  They will be explained to you soon enough.

  1. Chicago Mac Race

Yes. If our off watch crew heard correctly, Liberty witnessed the collision and made the Mayday call; it must have seemed pretty bad from their point of view. Then one or both of Chamade and Carinthia reported no serious injuries and waived off the Mayday.
  2. Chicago Mac Race

We heard the distress calls during the race. The collision was reported as between Carinthia and Chamade (a Section 10 boat, not a cruising boat).
  3. Chicago Area III

Sounds about right regarding locks open with delays, but they've also got some dates (April 28-May 1) when the locks will be closed altogether. Notice to Navigation Interests Sorry, the above link directed to Notice 12-002. It was superseded by Notice 12-003, which is the one on the chicagoharbors.info page. New link here.
  4. Chicago Area III

On the chicagoharbors.info notices page: As you may be aware, the City of Chicago is hosting the Group of 8 and North Atlantic Treaty Organization (G8/NATO) summits this year from May 19th to May 21st. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has declared the G8 and NATO Summits a National Special Security Event and the Coast Guard is exercising its authority to secure the area. The U. S. Coast Guard has asked the Chicago Park District to delay the opening of Burnham Harbor until May 24, 2012. However, we will provide space for all Burnham Harbor boaters at the new harbor at 31st Street.
