    Fuck You Republicans

Well complained, from the land of straight white science-denying privilege. Beware bullshit oceans rising, coming soon to a naval base near you. Can’t stomach huge entitlements, but don’t want oversight on 500 of our billions to be gifted by Trump to corporate supplicants fawning for approval from your amateur in chief. And yes, you complained about being forced to recognize a variety of sexual identities while also complaining that we think you’re homophobes. Seems ya got a ways to go before you just shake your head and say ”whatever”. That’s my take on stuff I don’t savvy but doesn’t alter my world in the slightest. You must feel threatened by them, else wouldn’t snowflake about it here.

    Failure of leadership

If the one feature of an enemy force is that they perform flanking maneuvers with every single attack, would you use all your resources to build a wall? A travel ban from China was obviously going to fail to stop disease spread. Saying it proves Trump “tried” is like saying “abstinence” can replace sex Ed. Ya underestimate the enemy at your peril.

    Captain of USS Roosevelt fired.

The Super at Annapolis is resigning, and his replacement already lined up, and I can’t see why he’d not be confirmed, so that jobs out. But Croziers main “crime” is refusing to be cowed by the civilians responsible for reinstating a war criminal to his unit. This is not so much career-ending as career-changing. Crozier’s name is all over the front page, and will attempt to be used by The various forces arrayed on the battle space. Basically, the Navy should keep him on life support until after the election. At that point it will be obvious whether he is an asset or a liability.

    Fuck You Republicans

Sock puppets are not people. They are an invention..therefore fair game. Calling for the slow death of an imaginary persona is no more odious than wishing the villain in a movie to fall off that cliff, hanging by his goolies on a gorse bush before crashing on the rocks and breaking his legs and having to swim home. An excellent PA smackdown. The anger and hatred, the stupid memes instead of thoughtful replies that constitute the average TDS! EMAILS! BENGHAZI! post reduces the level of debate here to that of low self-esteem high school students Doing their pathetic dozens. Show concern for America’s traditions of democracy not just when it helps you “win” and we will think of you as moral. Get pissed off when voter suppression takes a dangerous ugly form in Wisconsin. Show rational thought when blaming all our economic troubles on China and the WHO: China is not our ally, and their track record was having completely suppressed all early reports about the H1N1 virus. They did MUCH better this time, allowing some alerts to get out. Yes, they could have done better, but just as we cannot expect China to protect us, nor can we blame only them for our missteps. Acknowledge where mistakes were made. If we had a pandemic team assembled before this virus hit, compete with epidemiological spies in China, we might have been better prepared. What else could we have done better? Stop praising and defending Trump at every turn and act like a citizen of this country, rather than just the member of a Trump 2020 campaign team. This is bigger than your political agenda. But you’d prefer to engage these topics as an anonymous asshole because it’s easy and you’re lazy.

US ranked #1 to best deal with a disease outbreak

Mikey If a contagious pneumonia was also resistant to our antibiotics you’d have a fair comparison. If CAP had the capability of overwhelming all hospitals in America, so that we had patients dying in the streets, in homes, in the halls of hospitals, you’d have a point. Why are you unable to recognize the impact exponential growth rates and lack of a vaccine or reliable treatment has on the impact of disease? Ive even lost track of what you think the effect of your statistical analysis should be. Are we supposed to rush out and cure diarrhea? Care more about what you think is important than our national economy and the health of our family and friends? Whats your point?

I'm not convinced that the Navy officers in Crozier's chain of command were at fault for his firing, in fact, it might be that this was an instance of the junior guy on the totem pole spreading the word about the unsatisfactory responses from the Acting SecNAV to protect those who can elevate him to flag rank. No one else in that chain is being singled out as criticizing the skipper in such an unhinged and emotional manner, it is Modly whose rantings were triggered. Perhaps he was the original reason for the season's scandal aboard the TR? In just the past few days, an Intelligence IG was fired for essentially following the law, Trump refused to abide by an independent IG supposed to conduct oversight over $2 Trillion of COVID moneys and instead appointed his own lawyer who's been praised as being loyal to the administration. Please don't believe for a moment that the Trump administration's distaste for truth as defined by IGs are going to last long without robust support NOW. Do you really think that after Col Vindman got trashed for taking advantage of an open door policy despite his history of serving America other servicemen and women are going to avail themselves of an opportunity to commit career suicide? Crozier just made it official. You can't stop the president from using foreign powers to help win an election, and you can't demand to protect your troops with orders that make sense. You say you care about the system you say is working, but I say you are taking it for granted, which I define as just watching Trump burning the bitch down while being modestly concerned.

I guess we don't want to discuss the impact of the epidemic on our overall readiness, or how our military could best vs most quickly get past the impact of the virus on our ability to surge the fleet. Thats what Crozier wants us to hear. But it seems all Americans are deaf.

Love La Jolla. Just ran the 1/2 marathon there a year ago. Who the f**k put that killer hill at 6.5 miles? Up to Torrey Pines? You come to the top of a rise and meet kind ladies who are ambassadors to the park and they smile sweetly and say "you're halfway up!" Auuugh! But it was a gorgeous run!

So Anyone want to guesstimate the readiness of the fleet? Of the military? Should we just stay quiet, or can we start discussing science yet?

    Captain Crozier

I’ve been reading this thread, and was going to postulate something along these lines. Folks are concentrating on the number of cases found amongst these crew, without acknowledging the dramatic decrease in R0 created by the captain’s decision. Multiply that effect by not just his ship’s complement, but our fleet, our entire military, and I think you get a picture of our vaunted “state of readiness.” I, for one, am glad that we are NOT at war, because we’d be in a hell of a bind right now. Economy for shit, fighting sick, pilots, tech experts and commandera falling victim to the viral scourge. It takes men of action to fix this problem, working hard, making tough decisions and getting the ball rolling. I think Crozier identified a REMF and put some important issues in play. He was addressing one of the three huge national security problems our nation is currently facing head on, and responded with scientific analysis and cogent planning, just like the nuclear reactor expert he dc was trained to be. As for our economic troubles and climate change? They are still up to Trump, Steven Miller and Jared Kushner god help us all.

You may be right, I had just read a piece on how 1 in 3 cases of COVID were related to church services in an article published by the Sacramento Bee. I paired that with some new charlatan faith advisor being hired by the president to serve in his white bread White House, alongside Mike Pence whose religious-inquisitor role in Conversion therapy and ignoring the HIV epidemic because only the gays were dying and got pissed off. Im also flabbergasted by how “Christian” evangelicals have supported this amoral husk of a cockroach and use him for their own power hungry designs. But I think I resent the Christian church the most for how their priests were raping children and the elders systemically covering it up for decades. I find myself incapable of offering religion to my own kids as a result. It’s a hole I fear I’ve not been able to fill. I used to love the pagentry, the liturgy, the traditions, the singing and the mystery of faith. I resent the Catholic Church for destroying that within me, revealing it all to be fake bullshit sold like snake oil by clever con men in black robes with sonorous voices and busy hands. I also think I don’t trust powerful systems built by rich white men as a result. YMMV PS grew up a Congregationalist and then a Presbyterian, so I was never a Catholic

Moldy's "the whippings will cease when the morale improves" speech was disqualifying in years gone by, back when the American public cared about sailors. But now? I dunno. Maybe they only care about war criminal SEALs and arty. I think they are going full stupid & damn the torpedoes. We shall see if their rank and file give a shit. Many are "christians" so are probably just sending T&Ps.

US ranked #1 to best deal with a disease outbreak

NYT front page article today was discussing how a bunch of "pre-pandemic" flu-like illnesses, suspected deaths of cardiac causes were likely caused by the Coronovirus. Post mortem testing of a few of the suspected deaths have revealed many were COVID positive. The year was already shaping up to be a particularly dangerous flu season. COVID was always a reason why.

Ok, lets do a thought experiment. On the one hand, the "average age" aboard the carrier is young. Question: what is their role? Is it supervisory, or support? Who do they support, what is the reason we have super carriers? Pilots. Whose average age is a heck of lot more than newbie sailors. What do you think is the effect of a large number of pilots flying multimillion dollar aircraft loaded with fuel, ammo and rockets flying at supersonic speeds and pulling high G-forces being stricken with the flu which apparently has rapidly escalating symptoms? What are the foreseeable risks of pilots aboard a vessel with an outbreak of Coronovirus taking off with a mild headache and then becoming short of breath and diaphoretic during the course of a three hour flight, and then performing a mid-air refueling or having to land on the pitching deck of a ship full of sailors, fuel and nuclear bombs? Joker, you are a class-A idiot and have no role in the management of super carriers, thank heavens. Far from throwing away his career, Captain Crozier laid out a nice template of epidemiology and military judgement for his civilian leaders to learn from. I suggest you read it and shut the fuck up.

    Captain of USS Roosevelt fired.

He wrote a letter, dude, and got his orders changed. His opinion was backed by science and rational thought. His superiors relented, but found that they didn’t approve of his communications style, in part because it made them look bad because it showed they were ignoring the risks by dithering. Calling his email a mutiny is a joke, and that’s hardly what you should call a nuclear powered aircraft carrier with a crew complement being rapidly stricken with COVID 19. Crozier thought that scenario was deadly serious, and would have resulted in a ship full of sick sailors on the high seas supposedly “ready to fight”. The Navy has had some rather high profile incidents involving ship handling recently. They definitely need to avoid creating opportunities for disasters with a carrier. You’d rather American leadership follow Stalin‘s managerial style, “the man is the problem: no man? No problem.”

Actually, I see some real decrease in support for Trump in the midwest and northern states like Michigan and Wisconsin (according to the comparison)
