      A Few Simple Rules   05/22/2017

Sailing Anarchy is a very lightly moderated site. This is by design, to afford a more free atmosphere for discussion. There are plenty of sailing forums you can go to where swearing isn't allowed, confrontation is squelched and, and you can have a moderator finger-wag at you for your attitude. SA tries to avoid that and allow for more adult behavior without moderators editing your posts and whacking knuckles with rulers. We don't have a long list of published "thou shalt nots" either, and this is by design. Too many absolute rules paints us into too many corners. So check the Terms of Service - there IS language there about certain types of behavior that is not permitted. We interpret that lightly and permit a lot of latitude, but we DO reserve the right to take action when something is too extreme to tolerate (too racist, graphic, violent, misogynistic, etc.). Yes, that is subjective, but it allows us discretion. Avoiding a laundry list of rules allows for freedom; don't abuse it. However there ARE a few basic rules that will earn you a suspension, and apparently a brief refresher is in order. 1) Allegations of pedophilia - there is no tolerance for this. So if you make allegations, jokes, innuendo or suggestions about child molestation, child pornography, abuse or inappropriate behavior with minors etc. about someone on this board you will get a time out. This is pretty much automatic; this behavior can have real world effect and is not acceptable. Obviously the subject is not banned when discussion of it is apropos, e.g. talking about an item in the news for instance. But allegations or references directed at or about another poster is verboten. 2) Outing people - providing real world identifiable information about users on the forums who prefer to remain anonymous. Yes, some of us post with our real names - not a problem to use them. However many do NOT, and if you find out someone's name keep it to yourself, first or last. This also goes for other identifying information too - employer information etc. You don't need too many pieces of data to figure out who someone really is these days. Depending on severity you might get anything from a scolding to a suspension - so don't do it. I know it can be confusing sometimes for newcomers, as SA has been around almost twenty years and there are some people that throw their real names around and their current Display Name may not match the name they have out in the public. But if in doubt, you don't want to accidentally out some one so use caution, even if it's a personal friend of yours in real life. 3) Posting While Suspended - If you've earned a timeout (these are fairly rare and hard to get), please observe the suspension. If you create a new account (a "Sock Puppet") and return to the forums to post with it before your suspension is up you WILL get more time added to your original suspension and lose your Socks. This behavior may result a permanent ban, since it shows you have zero respect for the few rules we have and the moderating team that is tasked with supporting them. Check the Terms of Service you agreed to; they apply to the individual agreeing, not the account you created, so don't try to Sea Lawyer us if you get caught. Just don't do it. Those are the three that will almost certainly get you into some trouble. IF YOU SEE SOMEONE DO ONE OF THESE THINGS, please do the following: Refrain from quoting the offending text, it makes the thread cleanup a pain in the rear Press the Report button; it is by far the best way to notify Admins as we will get e-mails. Calling out for Admins in the middle of threads, sending us PM's, etc. - there is no guarantee we will get those in a timely fashion. There are multiple Moderators in multiple time zones around the world, and anyone one of us can handle the Report and all of us will be notified about it. But if you PM one Mod directly and he's off line, the problem will get dealt with much more slowly. Other behaviors that you might want to think twice before doing include: Intentionally disrupting threads and discussions repeatedly. Off topic/content free trolling in threads to disrupt dialog Stalking users around the forums with the intent to disrupt content and discussion Repeated posting of overly graphic or scatological porn content. There are plenty web sites for you to get your freak on, don't do it here. And a brief note to Newbies... No, we will not ban people or censor them for dropping F-bombs on you, using foul language, etc. so please don't report it when one of our members gives you a greeting you may find shocking. We do our best not to censor content here and playing swearword police is not in our job descriptions. Sailing Anarchy is more like a bar than a classroom, so handle it like you would meeting someone a little coarse - don't look for the teacher. Thanks.

  1. I don't think you can. But at least the eventually put a warning on it so it doesn't go on for 24 hours if you mis-click. Again, well done YM. It turns out it was virtually virtuous to be confidently conservative. . .or whatever your sailing style turned out to be
  2. Did someone say how to turn off the stealth mode? I didn't realize it lasted for 24 hrs. . .
  3. Congratulation Your Mom, Kymen and Gybe Turkey. Well played! indeed.
  4. Really hard to overtake on the outer lane. But now.... I'm ahead. I'm chipping away at you both. A 'win' for me is to beat Rainbow, possibly Hamachi. Breitling is too close for me to get any leverage and we are both pursuing the same strategy (atm). I was thinking of kicking my AIS too, just to give Breitling less info on my final push. I don't think it would faze him however; he does just fine with his own resources. HAH, just checked, and I'm ahead of Rainbow too! I'm winning, I'm winning! . . .
  5. Your Mom and the eastern group definitely look good, especially with Enez Venan taking the lead and being one of the farthest east. The puzzle for those of us in the 9,000 and 10Ks is how to get on top of the St. Helen high and into the easterlies. I've been reluctant to bang over into the very low wind to gain the better angle but had I done so a week ago, it would have paid. I can't see it overcoming the stronger winds to the west now. As I've been tracking NE, the high has been edging east and I've had to continue sailing close to the wind without getting over the hump. Finally, the 10day zezo routing is confirming that I can tack in a few hours and get a reasonable route northward. There's no way I'll make significant gains on the pack ahead and it looks like some fine tuning just to keep near the front of the pack I'm in. Then it's just a drag race until dealing with the problems Your Mom and other leaders are discussing. I'm happy to be ahead of Golden Rose and Javelin GBR for the moment and want to catch up Me Rongo Rekohu after I tack. The race is still exciting between those near.
  6. Is that like being "barely pregnant"?The IEZ line has gained a fuzzy widening (when zoomed in close) that I hadn't noticed before last week. I suppose it is a warning limit but it's purpose on the bottom side is not intuitively obvious. "WARNING you're about to go faster" doesn't sound right. Should be "CONGRATULATIONS you're about to stop fucking up!" Happy holidays, all! And, go klyman!
  7. I don't think I've seen such a wall as this before (especially in the southern ocean). Quite the peloton!
  8. Your Mom, Elby, Breitling: When using zezo routing, do you use the 6% extra speed setting (i.e. in the right click menu, is this option selected) or not? I'm confused with the discussion on the zezo forum about this.
  9. Well, THAT was interesting. elby was correct and it took an hour and a half of dicking around with zezo to finally bend its prognostication to my will!! I was sure that the low road could hardly make sense with the winds showng on both the game interface and cvetan's. I have a feeling that my cache was playing tricks somehow. At one time I BROKE the game! When trying to update time on a waypoint, the game froze with a buffer overflow error. That's when I figured there were too many chrome windows open and closed everything down and drained the cache. After booting back into the game, all is normal and the expected northern route is back in play. I have my destination set for Cape Horn and try for 6 to 8 day routing forecasts after reviewing the shorter term routes. I'm not sure if Hutspot77 will pass me in the next crossing or not but, as he says, "awesome racing!" . . .except when I f**#k up, then it's annoying. I should have slept in. shit again
  10. Well, PFFFFT! THAT was not nearly as exciting as planned. Now zezo is determined that I should escape this northern folly and toil along the IEZ with the rest of you morlocks. I'm really hoping that zezo is right (this time) because it sure looks like another day in the warm seats could pay off before sagging south. It looks like Hutspot77 is testing the warmer route. . .until he wakes up at least. We'll see. . . .
  11. Wheeeeee! Hutzpot77 and I have taken the high road. I've got to say, the acceleration is exhilarating, my hair (what's left) is streaming back and the skin on my face is stretched back to my ears, my nose has started to bleed! Such is life in the fast lane. We'll see you all back at the IEZ Christmas Day. When I left the low road, I was in around 10400th place; I figure Santa should gift me 500 places just for taking the path less traveled.
  12. WELL, I've waffled enough over the past couple of days. Same worry as Your Mom: trust the extended weather forecasts or not. For most of my sailing life, I've been comfortable with 3 days out (actually, for most of my life, that's been the limit to technology -- and weather ships). Here, on the wet coast, systems generally come through in about 36 hrs unless stalled by a summer high. In the southern ocean, with so little land mass to interfere, with satellites zooming around, and with better algorithms, I have to believe that the meteorologists are better than the rheumatism in my wrist. Heading north. Shit.
  13. I've got to hand it to Your Mom. He's "patiently virtuous" or "virtuously patient" and now "patiently conservative". Easy to say when you're a score and a half out of FIRST frigging place! Now me! I just blew past Me Rongo Rekohu (what does that Mean?!) in a virtuoso display of naviguessing acumen! I mean, jeez, it was awesome! And I feel really chuffed to be now leading the 10 grand group! Magool is next. 'nuff said.
  14. We have a HERO! Check boat speed after Scottmax crossed the IEZ line.
